Chapter 163 He Already Had A Plan
Chapter 163 He Already Had A Plan
He was shocked that he didn’t even know his mother very well and doubted him late father did. He was very sure his father would be turning in his grave right now. There was nothing he could do to stop this because, first, she was his mother, and secondly, he was not prepared to be chairman. They took their seats, and soon the hall was full.
Adrian looked and saw that Marcel’s seat was empty. He heard that he had traveled to another continent for Aurora’s birthday vacation with her. He doubted he has heard about what was going on now, and even if he did, he must still be on his way here.
“Now that the chairman is dead, the Malcolm Group can’t stay for long without a chairman. We have top shareholders, directors and also CEOs. With our major shareholder, Mrs. Cynthia Malcolm.”
Cynthia stood up, and they clapped.
Adrian was once again shocked. He was the one who was the majority shareholder. His mother had said she would hand over her own shares to him too. But it seemed she had transferred his shares to herself, becoming the majority shareholder.
Adrian wondered how she had done it since it would require his signature to transfer his shares to her. He tried to think of a time he had signed anything like that, and he recalled the day he came home drunk, which was the day he had seen Marcel and Aurora in the club together. His mother had, instead of scolding him, acted concerned and then used the opportunity to make him sign some documents. She had said she wanted to hand over her shares to him, but it seemed it was not that. Instead, it was the transfer of shares.
Adrian clenched his fist under the table. How could his own mother trick him into giving her his shares? He looked up at her and saw how happy she was. She bowed her head to the people clapping for her.
“As the majority shareholder, she has the right to become chairwoman,” one of the directors on her side spoke up, and the others supporting her nodded in agreement.
The other directors and CEOs who did not agree all murmured among themselves.
Adrian looked at them. There was no way they could do anything unless they wanted to combine their shares to bring his mother down.
“As the majority shareholder, I have the right to become chairwoman unless I decide to choose someone.” Cynthia said.
Everyone was silent. No one wanted to challenge her. There were rumors already going around. She had not wanted the chairman to take over, and now he was dead. Nobody wanted to challenge her now. They were suspecting her, but it was just rumors.
They knew her history of being a side chick before she became Henry Malcolm’s wife after his first wife died from an incurable illness. She had climbed up to the level she was now. Such a woman seemed to be capable of anything.
Cynthia smiled when no one seemed to want to challenge her.
“I will take the silence to mean that everyone here, including the other top shareholders, has agreed that I get installed as chairwoman. Am I right?” Cynthia asked, wanting to get the nod of agreement from her supporters.
“No, you are not, because I do not agree that you become chairwoman,” Marcel spoke.
Cynthia was shocked when she heard his voice. She turned and looked at Marcel who was dressed in a well tailored black suit.
“How did you…?” Cynthia spoke
“How did I get back so fast? Is that what you want to ask?” Marcel said.
Cynthia clenched her fist, but when she recalled there was nothing Marcel could do to stop her since she was the majority shareholder, she unclenched her fist and smiled a bit.
Marcel walked to the front of the boardroom and bowed his head.
The directors were all surprised he was here. They had asked about him but heard he was not in the country. It seemed he came back after hearing of the board meeting and the chairman’s death.
Robin, who stood at one side, smiled.
Marcel’s lawyer came and stood close to him.
Cynthia wondered why he was standing in front of the boardroom all of a sudden. She took her seat and decided to be calm. Marcel had said he would not allow her to be chairwoman, so she was curious to know what he planned on doing to stop her.
But then she wondered how he knew to be here, except if he had an insider who informed him. She concluded.
“Good day, everyone. Like you all know, I’m Marcel Malcolm, one of the top shareholders with about 23% of shares, which is not up to the shares of Mrs. Cynthia Malcolm. But then that is what you all think.”
Everyone started murmuring, confused about what he meant.
The lawyer brought out a document containing about 15 percent shares.
“In my hands are the shares of Marcel Malcolm’s mother, which were sold by his father, and he bought them using his company’s name.
“Since the shares were bought with his company’s name, his other co-owners have decided to hand the shares over to him. And the document in my hand shows their signatures and fingerprints, proving they transferred them over to him alone. So now that makes him the owner of the shares, and added to the ones he already has which is 23% plus 15%=38%.Marcel Malcolm automatically has the majority shares of the entire Malcolm Group of Companies.”
Cynthia’s face turned pale. She was surprised by what she had heard. She never knew his mother had some shares that Henry had sold. Her shares and Adrian shares combined is 32% which was the highest but now Marcel's mother’s shares he bought makes him the majority shareholder.
There became loud murmuring, and some directors nodded in agreement that about 15 percent of the shares had been bought in that company’s name.
The loud murmuring increased. People who opposed Cynthia began to smile. They were the ones who really cared about the company and thought she was not qualified for the position.
Cynthia was shaken down to her bone marrow. She never expected it. She looked at Marcel, who smiled at her.
Once again, she had underestimated him. No wonder he was calm after the will was read and he barely got anything, because all this time he already had a plan.
