Chapter 22

Lily stormed down the street, her mind racing with anger and frustration. Alexander's accusations and Rachel's manipulations had pushed her to the edge. She needed to regain control of her life and the situation. As she walked, an idea began to form in her mind—a way to turn the tables and make Alexander feel the same pain and guilt he had inflicted on her.

She pulled out her phone and called her doctor, Dr. Reynolds, explaining her plan in a hurried whisper. Dr. Reynolds, who had been discreetly helping Lily with her personal schemes for years, listened intently.

"Are you sure about this, Lily?" he asked, his tone cautious.

"Absolutely," she replied firmly. "I need your help to make this work."

After a brief pause, Dr. Reynolds agreed. "Alright, I'll set everything up. Just make sure you're careful."

Lily ended the call with a determined smile. She was ready to execute her plan.

Later that night, Lily staged her "accident" perfectly. She positioned herself at a busy intersection and waited for the right moment. As a car approached, she threw herself into its path, making sure to fall convincingly. The driver slammed on the brakes and rushed out of the car, horrified.

"Oh my God, are you alright?" the driver exclaimed, kneeling beside her.

Lily moaned and clutched her abdomen, tears streaming down her face. "I-I think I'm hurt. Please, call an ambulance."

Within minutes, paramedics arrived and whisked her away to the hospital. Once there, Dr. Reynolds took over, ensuring that everything looked authentic. He placed Lily in a private room and set up the necessary medical equipment to make it seem as though she had been severely injured.

When Alexander received the call about Lily's accident, he rushed to the hospital with Rachel in tow. Despite their recent arguments, the news that Lily had been hurt filled him with a deep sense of dread. As they arrived at the hospital, they were met by Dr. Reynolds, who led them to Lily's room.

"How is she, Doctor?" Alexander asked anxiously.

Dr. Reynolds sighed, his expression grave. "She's stable now, but there’s something you should know. Lily was pregnant, and due to the accident, she miscarried."

Alexander felt the floor drop out from under him. "Pregnant? She never told me... But I thought she didn't have a womb?"

Rachel's face twisted with a mix of shock and anger. " Miracles happen sir, I was shocked when I found out too but How could you let this happen, Alexander? You’re supposed to take care of your wife!"

Alexander's mind raced with guilt and regret. He had no idea Lily was pregnant. All the arguments, the stress—it had all contributed to this tragedy. He turned to Dr. Reynolds, his voice trembling. "Can I see her?"

Dr. Reynolds nodded and led them into Lily's room. She lay on the bed, pale and fragile-looking. Her eyes were closed, and for a moment, Alexander was afraid she might not wake up. He approached her, taking her hand in his.

"Lily," he whispered, his voice breaking. "I'm so sorry. I had no idea you were pregnant. Please, forgive me."

Lily opened her eyes slowly, her expression cold and distant. "You think a simple apology will make this right, Alexander? You’ve ruined everything."

Alexander’s heart ached at her words. "I know I can't fix this, but I promise I'll do whatever it takes to make it up to you."

Lily turned her head away, refusing to look at him. "Just leave me alone, Alexander. I don't want to see you."

As Alexander and Rachel left the hospital room, Rachel continued to berate him. "This is all your fault, Alexander. You should have been there for her!"

Alexander couldn't argue with her. He felt the weight of his failures pressing down on him. He had to find a way to make things right, but he didn't know where to start.

Meanwhile, Lily lay in her hospital bed, a small, satisfied smile playing on her lips. Her plan was working perfectly. Alexander was wracked with guilt, and Rachel’s constant criticisms would only drive a deeper wedge between them. She had managed to turn the tables and gain the upper hand. Now, all she had to do was continue playing her part.

Lily gazed around the empty hospital ward, ensuring she was alone before pulling out her phone. Her fingers trembled as she dialed Mark's number. The call connected, and Mark's voice filled the line.

"Lily, I thought you just had a miscarriage," Mark said, his tone laced with confusion.

Lily's eyes narrowed. "That's what I wanted them to think."

"But why? You told Alexander you don't have a home. What's going on, Lily?"

Lily's voice dripped with venom. "He lost the contract, Mark. He have nothing to offer me or our child. I couldn't bear the thought of being tied to a loser like him. I told him I lost womb during an accident years ago before I got married to him. That was the only key to reach him and get him away from Cassandra but I didn't know she would marry a richer man"

Mark's laugher was heard. " It's good news, but you have given him a hint but it's okay "

Lily's laughter was mocking. "Consult him? Him who couldn't even provide a home for us? I made the decision to protect myself and our future. You should be grateful I didn't get hurt trying not to be tried down with a loser like that bastard."

The line went silent, and Lily knew Mark was struggling to comprehend her resolve. Finally, he spoke, his voice laced with desperation.

"Lily, we need to talk about this in person. I'll come to the hospital."

Lily's response was calm but laced with fear. "No, Mark. I don't want to see you. I need time to think, to figure out my next move. Just leave me alone."

Mark's sigh was heavy. "Fine, but know that I'll be waiting for you, Lily and we need to be very careful because if he finds out then we are both died".

" He won't find out, as long as am here" she ended the call, her mind racing with thoughts of her future and the secrets she kept hidden. She smiled knowing that she can now use This and get whatever she wants from Alexander and make Rachel know her place in the house.
