Chapter 62
I floored the accelerator and headed straight for the sanatorium.
Before going to see Octavius, I met with Nolan's butler, Owen, and asked him to convey my wish for Octavius to attend the birthday party.
Owen returned with the message, confused. "Mr. Nolan Capulet asks why you are here to ask for his permission. If you want Mr. Octavius Capulet to attend the birthday party, you should just tell him yourself."
He didn't wait for my answer before adding with a cold snort, "Don't tell me Mr. Octavius Capulet doesn't want to go, and you've come here specifically to ask Mr. Nolan Capulet to help persuade him?"
"No, that's not it."I quickly explained, sincerely, "It's just that at the last banquet, I did something foolish that hurt Octavius and also caused Mr. Nolan Capulet to have a heart attack. I wanted to come and report it in advance."
"I won't hurt Octavius again this time, and I am genuinely inviting him to the birthday party. I hope Mr. Nolan Capulet will agree."
"And, I was also afraid that Mr. Nolan Capulet wouldn't be willing, and that finding out about it would affect his mood, so I made a special trip."
I adopted a humble posture, as sincere as I could be, showing my most earnest attitude.
Owen looked at me, his eyes filled with obvious surprise."You can actually be this sensible? I wouldn't have thought."
I felt a pang of embarrassment.
In the past, I had been extremely arrogant. Because I disliked Octavius, I didn't give the Capulet family any respect.
I only learned later that the Capulet family hadn't acted against me because Octavius was holding them back. Otherwise, I would have died eight hundred times over.
I bowed my head even more respectfully. "It's not that I'm sensible. I've just learned to be sincere. Please help me convey my message."
Owen snorted again, still looking a little reluctant.
But he didn't make things difficult for me anymore and turned to go inside.
This time, it was ten minutes before Owen came out again.
He looked at me, his expression softening slightly. "Mr. Nolan Capulet said that as long as Mr. Octavius Capulet is willing to go, he will not stop him."
I let out a huge sigh of relief and nodded with a smile. "Thank you, Mr. Nolan Capulet. I'll be leaving then."
I turned to leave.
Owen called out to me from behind. "Wait, Mr. Nolan Capulet has another question for you. What is your ultimate goal in getting close to Mr. Octavius Capulet now?"
I stopped and turned to look at him.
Ultimate goal?
I hadn't really thought about that question.
I only knew that in my past life, Octavius had given everything for me, even his life, and the entire Capulet family seemed to decline because of it.
Now, I was getting close to Octavius to fulfill my promise from my past life to pursue him, to not let his feelings be trampled on, to not let his sincerity be betrayed by me.
It was also because I had fallen for him myself, foolishly hoping that I could still be with him, even if the entire Capulet family would oppose it, even if Octavius no longer liked me in this life.
After serious consideration, I smiled at Owen. "My ultimate goal is to see Octavius happy. If he still has feelings for me and is happy with me, I think I will take the initiative to get close to him and be with him, even if you don't want to see that happen."
After saying that, I didn't look at Owen's reaction again and turned to leave without looking back.
I went to the Capulet Group again.
As I reached the CEO's office, before I could even walk in, I heard voices from behind me.
"Octavius, it's Seraphine's birthday party in a few days. Are you going?"
It was Quinlan's voice.
My heart tightened, and for some reason, I turned and rushed into the office just before they got out of the elevator.
I tried the door to the break room in the office, but it wouldn't budge.
Octavius had locked the break room.
The sound of footsteps grew closer.
In a panic, I had no choice but to dive under the desk, praying that the two of them wouldn't find me.
Soon, the office door was pushed open.
Octavius and Quinlan came in.
I saw them walk over to the desk, one after the other.
Octavius sat down, and Quinlan, facing me, also sat down opposite him.
My heart was about to leap out of my chest. I quickly covered my mouth, trying not to make a single sound.
Quinlan whined, "Octavius, tell me, you haven't answered me yet. Are you going to Seraphine's birthday party or not?"
I couldn't help but press my lips together, also waiting in anticipation.
However, Octavius still didn't answer directly, instead asking back, "Does it matter to you whether I go or not?"
His voice was as magnetic as ever.
Hearing this, Quinlan sounded a little helpless. "Of course it matters. I don't want you to go. You'll be gossiped about by those people again. Last time Seraphine publicly humiliated you, causing you to be laughed at behind your back. This time, there will definitely be people watching for a show."
"Please don't go, okay? I feel wronged for you. Why do you have to go to that kind of public opinion battlefield?"
I listened silently, wanting to go out and argue, but not knowing what to say.
Quinlan was also considerate of Octavius.
It was true, as she said, that even if everyone in Skyview City was afraid of Octavius, they would still gossip behind his back.
If Octavius appeared at the birthday party, even if those people didn't say anything to his face, they would still gossip behind his back and in their hearts.
They wouldn't care what was really going on between us. As long as they saw Octavius there, they would definitely bring up the fact that he was still showing up after being humiliated by me.
In my heart, between having Octavius at the birthday party and not wanting him to be wronged, the latter seemed more important.
Thinking of this, I slowly exhaled.
And the next second, the entire office fell silent for a moment.
Quinlan paused. "Octavius, did you just sigh? Why did I hear another sound?"
I was so scared I immediately clamped my mouth shut, realizing I had forgotten to hide my sound just now.
Octavius, however, wasn't suspicious and said nonchalantly, "No, there's no one else here. You heard wrong."
"Right." Quinlan smiled. "Then promise me you won't go to the birthday party, okay? I really don't mean anything else. I'm just looking out for you."
Octavius was silent for a while.
Quinlan stood up directly. "Alright, think about it again, Octavius. You've never been wronged like this since you were a child. I hope you can think carefully. It's not worth it for someone like Seraphine who doesn't cherish you."
With that, she turned and left.
The office door opened and closed.
The room returned to silence.
I bit my lip, my legs were numb. I thought Octavius would walk Quinlan out, but he was still in his seat.
Not only that, Octavius's foot suddenly stretched out towards me.
I quickly moved to the side to avoid it, but because my legs were numb, I lost control of my body and sat down on the floor with a thud, the pain making me cry out.
The next second, Octavius's voice came from above, without a hint of surprise, as if he had known I was hiding there all along.
"Come out."
I felt extremely embarrassed and, blushing, crawled out from under the desk.
Octavius sat in his chair, looking down at me, and raised an eyebrow. "Why did you sneak in to listen to our conversation?"
I gave an awkward smile and said weakly, "If I said this was an accident, would you believe me?"
