Chapter 57
I spread my hands. "Me?"
Brielle said viciously, "Yes! It must have been you and Mr. Carter working together to set me up! You two are so close, he was definitely helping you screw me over!"
I immediately put on an expression of incredible hurt, looking at Heath. "Dad, listen to her. I kindly helped her see through a scam, and she turns around and blames me!"
Heath stood with his hands behind his back, his face grim.
I argued my case. "She made the transfer herself. The recipient was a virtual account, and Mr. Carter has clearly stated he knew nothing about it."
"If I were setting a trap, why would I use a method that could be so easily exposed? And how would I even have an overseas account?"
"Also, before you came in, Dad, Brielle was already suspecting me. I already showed her my phone; I haven't contacted Mr. Carter in days."
Presenting facts and logic versus hysterical shouting.
Clearly, the former was more convincing.
Seeing Brielle wildly accusing others, Heath's face grew even darker.
He pointed at Brielle, his hand trembling with anger. "You were stupid enough to get scammed, and now you're slandering your sister here, repaying kindness with malice! Get out! Get out of here and go home to reflect! You're not allowed back at the company without my permission!"
"Dad! You don't believe me? It was really her who set me up!"Brielle completely broke down, tears streaming down her face.
Heath sneered in disappointment. "Still blaming others. You're hopeless! Go home now!"
Just as he finished speaking, a figure appeared outside the office.
"What's going on here?"
Amara, dressed in a designer gown, looked regal and elegant. Her smile slowly froze as she sensed the strange atmosphere.
Seeing her appear so joyfully, she must have thought Brielle had already secured the shares.
"Mom!"Brielle grabbed onto her like a lifeline, sobbing, "Our money was scammed! A full ten million dollars, all gone!"
Amara was shocked, looking from her to Heath. "What happened?"
I stepped forward to explain. "Brielle contacted a scammer with an overseas account, thinking it was Mr. Carter's payment account for selling shares, and transferred the money. But the fact is, the company never allows private share sales."
Amara's face instantly turned ugly, as bloodless as Brielle's.
I didn't give her a chance to react, immediately pressing her. "By the way, Brielle just said your money was scammed? Mom, surely you didn't know about the company rule against private sales and secretly raise money for Brielle behind Dad's back?"
Amara almost couldn't catch her breath.
And Heath's face had completely darkened.
He gritted his teeth and sneered repeatedly. "Good, very good! Buying shares behind my back and getting scammed. Have you both lost your minds!"
Amara's eyes flickered, and she quickly put on a remorseful look."Heath, this is all my fault! I was the one who encouraged Brielle to do this. She didn't even agree at first, feeling it was disrespectful to the board."
She quickly tugged on Brielle.
Brielle clearly hadn't caught on yet, but she immediately nodded."Yes! That's right, Dad."
Her slow reaction made it obvious her brain hadn't caught up.
It made sense.
Brielle had never worked at the company and didn't understand the intricacies of the workplace.
At this moment, she didn't understand why Amara was taking all the blame—it was to protect her position in the company and her good impression with Heath.
Heath naturally didn't believe the clumsy coordination between mother and daughter.
He sneered softly. "Do you really think I'm a fool? Enough! Brielle is suspended and will go home to reflect! No one is to object!"
The mother and daughter froze, their faces extremely ugly.
As Amara led Brielle away, she glared at me fiercely. "Seraphine! You just wait! I will find evidence! I won't let you get away with this!"
I frowned, looking as if I had been unjustly wronged, and sighed helplessly.
Seeing her still shouting, Heath grew even angrier.
He rubbed his temples wearily and looked at me. "Seraphine, this money..."
"Dad, don't worry."I immediately volunteered. "I will contact the bank right away and do my best to trace that virtual account to see if we can recover some of the losses."
Heath trusted me completely and nodded. "Alright, I'll leave this to you. If you can't get it back, then so be it. Consider it a lesson learned. Just do your best."
I nodded and opened the office door for him. "Dad, take care of your health. No matter how angry you are, you have to look after yourself."
Heath sighed, nodded, and turned to leave.
After seeing him off, I closed the door and took out my phone to call Ewan.
"Mr. Carter, the matter is resolved," my tone was light.
Ewan's hearty laughter came from the other end. "Seraphine, your move was brilliant! Not only did Brielle suffer a silent loss, but she also completely lost Mr. Whitaker's trust. My five million dollars..."
"Don't worry, Mr. Carter. We agreed to split the money. I'll transfer it to your designated account shortly."I agreed immediately and transferred the money.
Ewan's cooperation was crucial to this play; splitting five million with him was only right.
Besides, getting back at Brielle was the key. The money itself, I didn't care about right now.
After hanging up, five million dollars arrived in Ewan's account.
I was in a great mood, relieved and feeling more spirited than ever.
This move not only caused Brielle a huge loss and ruined her credibility, but I also gained five million dollars and solidified my position in Heath's heart.
Multiple birds with one stone.
Just then, there was a knock on the office door.
"Come in."
Soren came in with a file. "Ms. Whitaker, this contract needs your signature. The meeting in half an hour..."
I raised my hand to interrupt, glancing at the time.
It was already five o'clock.
"You can chair the next meeting for me. I have to leave soon."
I uncapped my pen and started signing.
Hearing this, Soren was curious. "This is the first time Ms. Whitaker has missed a meeting since her promotion. Where are you going?"
I smiled, signed my name cleanly, and handed him the file.
"To see Octavius."
Soren's eyes widened, a teasing look on his face. "You and Mr. Capulet are together, aren't you?"
I shook my head. "Far from it. But I'm confident I can win him over."
Soren gave me a thumbs-up. "Ms. Whitaker is so assertive!"
"Alright, I'm off."
After packing up, I went to see Octavius with a sense of anticipation.
As I arrived at the Capulet Group building, that familiar black Rolls-Royce was already parked at the entrance.
Octavius was leaning against the car, checking the time, seemingly waiting for me.
I couldn't help but smile, quickening my pace towards him.
"Octavius."
"Mr. Capulet!"
Just as I was about to reach Octavius, a figure suddenly rushed out from the side.
It was Brielle.
She pointed at me like a madwoman. "Mr. Capulet! Don't be fooled by her! Seraphine didn't come home all night yesterday, and it wasn't for anything proper!"
"She was fooling around with another man! The kiss marks on her neck are the proof! Her body isn't clean anymore! You must not have anything to do with her!"
