Chapter 116

Chapter 116

Seraphine's POV

After arriving at the hospital, I was rushed into the emergency room.

After all that chaos, the drug's effects in my system started wearing off.

I gradually regained my strength. When I was moved to a regular ward, I saw Heath sitting in the hallway waiting, his face gloomy.

Amara was restless, trying several times to talk to Heath, but his cold, irritated glares scared her off each time.

The test results would take two hours.

I lay in the hospital bed with my eyes closed, appearing weak, but actually thinking about my next move.

Based on Amara's reaction, there should indeed be something in the soup.

But it wasn't this kind of acute poison that would cause severe symptoms immediately.

The drug she had the servant put in should be a chronic one that needed to be taken in small amounts over a long period, slowly damaging the body until it eventually caused sudden illness and organ failure.

However, Amara would never expect the test results to show a lethal poison.

I wanted her to completely anger Heath and make him trust her less.

"Mr. Whitaker!" The doctor from the lab came out holding a report, looking serious.

Heath jumped to his feet: "Doctor, what's the situation?"

Amara nervously moved closer too.

I opened my eyes and watched them through the doorway.

The doctor handed the report to Heath and said gravely: "We detected high concentrations of toxic substances in the soup that was sent for testing."

Heath was clearly stunned: "High concentration toxins?"

"Yes, this is a highly poisonous substance extracted from plants that directly attacks the heart."

"Based on the remaining soup, if your daughter hadn't drunk relatively little and been brought in for treatment quickly, the consequences would have been unthinkable."

"If this toxin is ingested two or more times consecutively, even in small doses, it's enough to cause irreversible heart damage, ultimately leading to heart failure and death."

Heath looked at the report over and over, his hands shaking violently.

His expression was furious as he suddenly turned and stared hard at Amara.

Even from several feet away, I could feel the intense murderous intent, let alone Amara.

Amara froze in fear, "No... that's impossible!"

She panicked, "How could it be this kind of poison? I didn't know! It must have been that gardener! This has nothing to do with me!"

She explained helplessly, desperately trying to shift the blame to the servant who had already been detained.

I coughed a couple times at just the right moment, looking at Heath weakly: "Dad, I'm so scared. That soup was prepared for you. I only drank it by mistake. They were actually trying to harm you!"

"Amara!" Heath roared, furious, "You're really something! Tell me, did you have someone poison me!"

"Heath, I'm being wronged! Listen to my explanation! I really didn't know, it must be Seraphine staging this herself!" Amara panicked and started pointing at me to shift the blame.

"Enough!" Heath cut her off, looking at me pale and weak, suffering, a trace of guilt appearing in his eyes. "Can't you see Seraphine is barely hanging on! And you're saying she staged this herself? What would she gain from risking her life to put on a show? You tell me!"

"Dad." I struggled to sit up.

Heath immediately came in to support me.

I gently tugged at his sleeve, "Luckily it was me who drank the soup this time. But what about next time? Most of the servants at home are old employees, but we trusted them too much and weren't on guard, which gave others a chance to act."

Amara stood at the hospital room door, looking at me with suspicion and uncertainty.

"I believe it was the servant with bad intentions, and it has nothing to do with Mom. Don't fight." I retreated to advance, pretending to be understanding.

Heath immediately scolded Amara: "Look at your daughter! She was poisoned and she's still speaking up for you. And you? You're maliciously speculating about her!"

Amara's lips moved, but she couldn't speak.

Heath held my hand, "Seraphine, thank goodness for you this time. It was my negligence that got you involved."

I smiled bitterly: "Dad, don't say that. What's most important now is our safety. For your sake and the family's sake, I think we should replace all the servants at home with completely new people."

"Replace them! Replace them all!" Heath agreed without hesitation.

Amara panicked: "No!"

I looked up at her.

Many of the servants at home were confidants she had gradually planted or bought over the years.

Especially those in the kitchen and those serving closely - replacing them all would cut off many of her eyes and ears.

"We've used the old employees for so many years, there are feelings! How can we just replace them? This was just an accident, just that one gardener's problem! Send that gardener to the police station and carefully check the others. Replacing everyone would make too much noise and wouldn't sound good if word got out!" Amara tried hard to stop it, starting to persuade Heath.

I coughed weakly twice, looking at Amara: "Are the servants' feelings more important, or Dad's and our lives more important?"

Amara was stunned, speechless.

"Today they could poison the soup, tomorrow they could tamper with something else. We can't afford to gamble a second time." At this point, I turned to Heath, "Let me handle this. I'll definitely find you a clean, absolutely reliable new team."

Heath looked at me, sighed, both pleased and heartbroken. "Alright, Seraphine, I'm putting you in full charge of this! All the servants at home will be let go, with compensation at the highest standard. Have them pack up and leave today! Not one stays!"

Amara opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but faced with Heath's firm attitude, she lowered her head and stayed quiet.

This matter was settled. Whatever she said wouldn't matter.

Amara glared at me fiercely, but didn't dare make a scene in front of Heath: "Heath, since you've decided, let's do as Seraphine says. I'm feeling a bit unwell, I'll go back and rest first."

With that, she immediately turned and left.

I pressed my lips together, pretending to be pitiful: "Dad, Mom seems to hate me more and more."

Heath's eyes were complicated as he sighed heavily and patted the back of my hand: "Seraphine, rest well, don't overthink it. I'll listen to you about household matters. It doesn't matter if others hate you, as long as I value you."

I nodded obediently and closed my eyes.

Heath gave the doctor a few more instructions before leaving the room with a heavy heart to deal with the poisoning incident.

The hospital room became quiet.

I lay alone in the hospital bed, weak and exhausted, but my heart was at peace.

Either way, no one would dare to be bold enough to poison Heath again.

From now on, everyone at home would be my people. Whatever Amara and Brielle wanted to do wouldn't escape my eyes.

Especially with food and drink, they wouldn't be able to tamper with anything.

I closed my eyes and went over everything repeatedly, thinking about what to do next.

Without realizing it, my eyelids seemed to get heavier and heavier.

I closed my eyes, and just as I was about to fall asleep, I vaguely felt someone watching me from the doorway.

It must be my imagination.

I wanted to open my eyes but was too lazy to look. Soon after, I slowly lost consciousness.
