Chapter 47
She was still shaking. She didn’t know why he’d affected her that badly, but he had.
She grabbed her cell. “Nathan.”
“Amy! You on your way?”
“I am.” It was so good to hear his voice, she felt the relief flood her.
“What’s wrong?”
“I saw your uncle. But…he did not look happy to see me.”
“Oh?”
She struggled to make sense. It was just a feeling. And yet she’d learned to trust her gut intuitions. “He glared at me, Nathan. There was no one else around, so it was just at me. He’s angry at me.”
Silence. Then… “I don’t know what’s going on. I could make a bunch of guesses, but that’s all they’d be. Maybe he’s heard that we’re renovating together, and for some reason that pisses him off. I will promise you, though, that I’ll address this with him next time I see him. You okay with that?”
“I don’t know.”
“Forget about him for the evening, okay? In fact,” his voice turned playful, “you may have no choice but to forget about it all once you see the food I’ve prepared for you.”
And just like that, her world was safe again. Nathan was cooking for her. The fun of it, the specialness of it flooded through her. She could hardly wait.
“Do you need me to bring anything?”
“Just you, Amy. Just you.”
