Chapter 88 Have a Child with Zachary
"Ms. Davis, if you don't tell me what's wrong, how can I help you?"
Since Alicia refused to get up, Quinley let go of her hand and stepped back, maintaining distance from Alicia.
Alicia was skilled at acting, always coming up with new schemes that left Quinley overwhelmed and unable to handle every one.
"Ms. Elikin, Zach is about to be kicked out of Apex Global Group. You know how important Apex Global Group is to him. He worked so hard, gave everything to reach his current position. If he's forced to leave Apex Global Group, I'm worried he'll..." Alicia broke down in tears as she spoke.
Quinley's heart was in turmoil—what she'd feared most was happening.
William had three sons: his eldest, Zachary, with Sylvia, and his second and third sons, Landon and Chris, with Emily. Sylvia had been kicked out of the Jennings family over twenty years ago and divorced William.
Naturally, Zachary was the least favored of William's three sons. Perhaps because he wasn't favored, he worked the hardest.
After coming of age, he joined Apex Global Group, starting from the lowest-level salesperson position and working his way up to marketing director. Three years ago when William gave up, it was Zachary who turned the tide and restored Apex Global Group to its former glory.
Meanwhile, Landon and Chris had grown up in luxury, getting everything without effort, predictably becoming spoiled rich kids. Landon was only three years younger than Zachary, and William had once placed high hopes on him, bringing him into the company for hands-on training. But he couldn't handle hardship and found himself a cushy position as a figurehead.
As for Chris, he had no interest in business whatsoever, focused entirely on his directing dreams, using William's money to wander around the world. When William died, Chris never even showed up.
Just because Emily's two sons were disappointing didn't mean she wouldn't fight for them. Rumors said William died suddenly, possibly without even leaving a will.
Actually, whether there was a will or not, Zachary wouldn't benefit. Quinley knew all this.
But she hadn't expected Emily to go for the kill, forcing Zachary out of Apex Global Group entirely.
"Ms. Elikin, I know you and Zachary have a special relationship. I shouldn't have... shouldn't have taken him from you. I promise, as long as Zachary keeps his position at Apex Global Group, I'll leave him and let you two be together. Ms. Elikin, please, won't you help him?"
Alicia crawled closer to Quinley on her knees, grabbing her wrist again, putting herself in the most humble position possible.
"How do you want me to help him?" Quinley stood there, her mind in chaos.
Tears streamed down Alicia's delicate face like rivers.
"Ms. Elikin, would you have a child with Zachary? As long as there's a baby, Zachary won't have to leave Apex Global Group. William left a will—whichever son produces the first grandchild becomes CEO of Apex Global Group."
Alicia's words shocked Quinley. She stared at Alicia in bewilderment, as if she didn't recognize her.
"Ms. Davis, you're Mr. Jennings's fiancée. Having children is something you should discuss with Mr. Jennings. I can't help you with that."
Quinley pried Alicia's hands away and turned to leave. Alicia got up and quickly caught up, blocking Quinley's path with a pitiful demeanor.
"Ms. Elikin, you know Zachary doesn't love me. If he doesn't love me, how could he want to have children with me? But you're different—he cares about you. As long as you're willing, Zachary would definitely want to have a child with you. Ms. Elikin, if you give birth to this child, Zachary won't have to leave Apex Global Group."
Alicia seemed possessed, rambling on endlessly, trying to convince Quinley to agree.
Quinley's head felt like mush. She didn't believe Alicia had lost her mind.
"Ms. Davis, why are you doing this?"
"I just love Zach too much. Ms. Elikin, please believe me—I'm really doing this for Zach's own good. You love him too, don't you? So let's work together, make one joint effort, okay? As long as you get pregnant with his child, I'll ask my brother to intervene. Zach will definitely get through this crisis."
Work together? Quinley was even more shocked when she heard those words.
She'd always been Alicia's imaginary enemy—why was she suddenly wanting to form an alliance? Two women joining forces to fight a battle to protect Zachary? The whole operation was mind-boggling.
"Ms. Elikin, you don't want to see Zach lose everything either, do you? William's gone, Sylvia's fate is unknown—he's all alone with no one to help him. He's so pitiful. Ms. Elikin, since we both love him, could you please put aside personal grudges and help him this once? As long as you're willing to help him, I'll agree to any conditions you name, okay?"
Alicia grabbed Quinley's forearm, her fingers digging in with force. Quinley winced in pain and pushed her away.
Alicia had lost her mind. Only a crazy person could say such things.
"Ms. Davis, please leave." Quinley turned her back and walked straight toward the stairwell.
A fine layer of cold sweat broke out on her spine. Did Alicia know about the baby in her belly? Was that why she was scheming around that child?
At the elevator, just as Quinley stepped inside, Alicia's voice followed her.
"Ms. Elikin, please reconsider! Zach can't be without Apex Global Group."
After Quinley went upstairs, Alicia's messages started coming through.
"Ms. Elikin, please, I'm begging you to agree."
Quinley was extremely annoyed and simply turned off her phone.
"Quinny, what's wrong with you?" As soon as Quinley entered her room, Marlee noticed something was off and followed her in.
Marlee's concern was also a huge burden for Quinley.
"Mom, I'm fine. I made plans to meet a friend. I'm leaving now." Quinley grabbed her purse and headed out again.
When she got downstairs, Alicia was already gone. Quinley walked toward the community gate and unexpectedly ran into Zachary.
He was dressed in all black, looking exhausted, hurrying in her direction. Quinley walked with her head down, not noticing him, and nearly bumped into his arms.
"Mr. Jennings, what are you doing here?" Quinley asked in surprise.
Zachary's eyes were deep and dark. He reached out to steady her shoulders. "You turned off your phone. I thought something had happened to you."
She didn't have a habit of turning off her phone. When she was Zachary's assistant, her phone stayed on 24/7. Later, when Colin and Dennis got into trouble, she was even more afraid to turn it off.
"I forgot to turn it on." Quinley made an excuse and pulled out her phone in front of Zachary.
As soon as the phone powered on, Alicia's messages kept popping up. Unfortunately, Zachary caught a glimpse of Alicia's profile picture flashing.
"What did she want with you?" Zachary asked suspiciously.
Quinley was furious about Alicia's crazy schemes, so she simply handed her phone to Zachary.
"See for yourself."
