Chapter 368 What Exactly Do You Want
Chapter 368 What Exactly Do You Want
After Oliver and Daniela's wedding, the two started discussing their honeymoon plans.
Oliver had arranged his work in advance, clearing out a whole month to take Daniela and Martha on their honeymoon.
But Martha refused no matter what.
"What would I go for? I'd just be a third wheel. You two go by yourselves. I'll stay home and enjoy some peace and quiet for a few days."
Martha always had plenty of excuses to decline.
"Mom, you've worked hard your whole life. This time just come with us and relax. Don't worry, we definitely won't leave you out."
Oliver kept trying to persuade Martha, but she kept refusing.
"Mom, please come. Oliver has everything arranged."
Daniela tried to convince her too, but Martha was as stubborn as a mule. No matter what the young couple said, she had made up her mind - she wasn't going anywhere.
Not knowing what to do, Daniela went to Quinley for help.
"Quinley, my mom only listens to you. Please help me talk to her. Oliver and I are planning to go on our honeymoon and want to bring her along, but she won't agree no matter what."
Daniela pouted and acted cute with Quinley.
She and Oliver had good intentions, but Martha didn't seem to appreciate it.
Quinley laughed. "If I were Martha, I wouldn't want to go either. You two lovebirds showing off your affection - that wouldn't be fun at all."
"We're not showing off! Besides, we're family. She's my mom, and Oliver treats her well too. Even if we go out, we'll take good care of her."
Daniela still didn't understand Martha's repeated refusals.
Just then, Elise came in from outside carrying fruit. She happened to hear Daniela and Quinley's conversation.
"Daniela, don't push your mom. She's about my age, and at this age, people can't handle too much running around. When we have free time, we just want to stay home and rest. You and Mr. Oliver go ahead and enjoy your honeymoon. I'll stay here and keep your mom company during this time. She won't be lonely."
Elise meant well, trying to comfort Daniela.
However, she didn't expect that she had just brought trouble on herself.
"How about this - Elise, why don't you come with us? You and my mom can keep each other company, so she won't feel lonely."
"No, no, no, I'm not going. Traveling costs money and is tiring. Wise finally came back, and I need to spend time with them."
Elise didn't think much and started refusing.
"Quinley, what do you think? How about letting Elise go with my mom? Don't worry, Oliver and I will definitely take good care of both of them."
"Good idea."
Quinley agreed right away.
A smile immediately bloomed on Daniela's face. "Great, I'll tell Oliver right now."
Elise panicked. "Daniela, don't be silly. I really don't want to travel. I just want to stay home. I get car sick and seasick - I'd just slow you down."
Daniela was quick with her phone and rapidly sent the message to Oliver.
"Elise, you really don't need to worry. No matter what happens, we'll take good care of you. You've had a hard life for so long. Now that there's a chance, please go out and have fun with my mom. Please."
Daniela put her hands together, pleading.
"Daniela, this is too hasty. I can't go. Quick, tell Mr. Oliver to refund the tickets." Elise still insisted.
Quinley winked at Daniela, who immediately understood.
"Okay then, let me call and ask if he's bought the tickets yet."
With that, she took out her phone and walked toward the balcony.
After a while, she came back. "Elise, it's too late. I asked, and the tickets are already bought - they cost tens of thousands of dollars, and they're non-refundable."
Elise had lived frugally her whole life. Even though Quinley's situation had improved and she now lived comfortably without worries, she still felt bad about wasting money.
"Oh no, what should we do?"
"Mom, just go with them. When Zachary and I got married, we didn't get to go on a honeymoon. Now he's busy with work and Riley is small, so we haven't had a chance to take you anywhere. Now that there's finally an opportunity, please go and relax. Don't worry about Wise - I'll take good care of her during this time."
At this point, Elise seemed to have no other choice. She could only agree reluctantly.
Three days later, Elise accompanied Martha and went on the honeymoon with Daniela.
On the day they left, Quinley received a message from Teresa.
[Mrs. Jennings, I'm leaving Rosewood City tonight. Are you free? Want to grab coffee together?]
She had taken the initiative to invite her. Quinley roughly understood what Teresa meant.
[Sure.]
She agreed.
They arranged a meeting place. When Quinley arrived, Teresa was already there.
"Mrs. Jennings."
Teresa stood up and waved to Quinley. As she approached, Quinley said to Teresa, "From now on, just call me Quinley."
Teresa didn't say anything.
They ordered coffee. The sunlight outside the window was beautiful, warm and gentle as it fell on the green leaves, looking especially comforting.
"Where are you planning to go this time?" Quinley lifted her coffee and took a small sip.
Teresa held her cup with both hands but didn't drink. Her expression still showed some sadness.
"Paris, I guess."
"Will you come back?" Quinley asked again.
Teresa shook her head. "I won't come back. Coming back would only add to the sadness. Besides, I don't have any friends in this city."
"Am I not one?"
Quinley asked back.
Teresa was momentarily stunned. "Can we be friends?"
"Of course." Quinley said with certainty.
Teresa let out a small sigh of relief. "Thank you for considering me a friend."
"Whether or not things worked out between you and Oliver, meeting each other was a beautiful connection. I believe you must have many good memories. Teresa, you're a smart girl. Don't keep dwelling on the past - it's not worth it."
Teresa nodded, then shook her head. "Once you've loved, you don't want to love again. Loving someone is just too exhausting."
"You could try being loved." Quinley added.
"Being loved?" Wise's image immediately appeared in Teresa's mind.
That innocent boy - he was the only one who ever told her he wanted to be responsible for her.
But how ridiculous - the only man she wanted to be responsible for her had taken responsibility for someone else instead.
Life goes round and round, like a cat chasing its tail, never quite catching hold of happiness.
"Forget it. Someone like me - what right do I have to be loved?" Teresa said somewhat negatively.
"Wise is actually a good choice. If you're willing, you could give it a try."
Quinley directly broke through that layer of pretense.
Teresa was slightly stunned, because she was still very unfamiliar with the name Wise.
That night, in a state of extreme disappointment, she had given herself to a strange man.
She thought that way she could give herself some closure with her past.
But later she discovered it was just self-deception.
What hurt still hurt - she couldn't forget at all.
"Him?" Teresa held her coffee cup and took a small sip.
The bitter taste of coffee gradually spread across her tongue.
"He's my brother, my half-brother from my mother's side. Although he's still a hothead who only half-understands society, I believe his feelings for you are real. So I hope you can give him a chance."
Quinley didn't know why she was speaking up for Wise at this moment.
"I'm much older than him. Besides, that night with him was just an impulse. Adults being impulsive once in a while doesn't mean anything."
Teresa said again.
Wise was like a lamb lost in the fog, but wasn't Teresa the same?
Seeing her dismiss it like this, Quinley didn't say anything more.
"Let me know once you're settled. I hope every day of your future goes smoothly."
Quinley offered her blessing.
Teresa nodded, very lightly.
"Thank you."
Later, she glanced at the time and took the initiative to say goodbye to Quinley.
"Quinley, I have to go. Thank you. If there's anything worth remembering about Rosewood City, I guess now it's only you. Oh, and please tell Wise I'm sorry. I was too impulsive that night - it wasn't fair to him."
However, when Quinley told Wise these words, he completely fell apart.
"Why would she say that to me? She didn't wrong me. Whether that night was impulsive or not, I have to be responsible for her. Tell me, where is she going? When is she leaving? I have to stop her."
He still had that youthful energy, that hot-blooded kind - when he loved, he wanted to go all in.
"Are you sure about this?"
Quinley asked.
Wise nodded. "I'm sure. Although I've never been in a relationship and don't know how to chase a woman, I'm certain that I only want to be with her for the rest of my life. You asked me what I mind, right? If I really have to say what I mind, it might be other people's objections. You're right - if you truly love someone, you shouldn't mind anything."
Quinley didn't speak, just patted him on the shoulder.
"Good that you've thought it through."
That's all she said.
"Quinley, which flight is she taking tonight?" Wise asked again.
"She's going to Paris."
Quinley only gave him that answer.
Wise didn't have time to think more. He turned back into the house, quickly packed a few things, and was ready to leave.
"I'm leaving now. Tell Mom later."
"Okay."
Quinley agreed.
At dinner time, with several people missing from the house, it felt cold and empty.
When Zachary heard about what happened between Wise and Teresa, he was somewhat surprised.
"Are you sure he really understands what love means now? Teresa is older than him after all, and has been out in society for so many years. Can he handle this?"
Quinley rolled her eyes at him. "Didn't you say that men only grow through setbacks and pain? Since he wants to pursue Teresa, why not let him follow his heart? It's not easy to meet someone you like."
Zachary laughed. "Don't forget, he's your own brother, just out of his ivory tower. Teresa is probably still heartbroken right now. What if she uses Wise as a backup and ends up hurting the kid? How will you explain that to Mom?"
Zachary's concern wasn't without reason.
But Quinley had her own thoughts. "Either way, letting him try is good. I have a feeling that there might be a story between them."
Zachary didn't believe in Quinley's intuition. "I actually think there might be an accident between them instead."
Who would have thought that Zachary would be right.
When Wise arrived at the airport, Teresa was already in line at the boarding gate.
He saw Teresa from far away and rushed toward her without thinking.
"Teresa, I have something to tell you."
He ran up to Teresa's side, breathing heavily. She gave him a cold, ruthless glance. "Get lost."
Other than that word, she didn't want to say anything to Wise.
"Teresa, I like you. I really, really like you. Even if that night between us was just an impulse, I still have to tell you - I like you, and I want to be with you forever."
His confession was passionate and pure.
Wise boldly confessed in front of so many people, immediately attracting countless onlookers.
Teresa crossed her arms, unmoved.
Somehow he pulled out a ring from his pocket - the material wasn't clear, and it looked very ordinary.
"Teresa, will you marry me?"
He knelt on one knee and held up the ring.
This scene, if it appeared before people in love, should be moving.
But Teresa only felt extremely disgusted.
"Wise, what exactly are you trying to do?"
She shouted impatiently.
"I want to marry you. I really want to marry you." Wise repeated this sentence.
Teresa suddenly became angry. She grabbed her phone and immediately made a call.
"911? I'm being sexually harassed right now. Please help me."
Right in front of Wise, she said these words.
Wise didn't expect Teresa to be so ruthless.
He didn't complain or get up, still maintaining his previous position.
Soon, the police arrived. They grabbed Wise's arms from both sides.
"It's him. I don't know this person, but he came to harass me. Thank you for your help. I need to catch my flight."
"I didn't - I'm not harassing you. I was proposing to you."
Wise struggled.
But it was no use. He watched helplessly as Teresa entered the boarding gate and then disappeared from his sight.
When Quinley received the call from the police, she was shocked.
She put on her coat and headed out. Zachary immediately followed. "What's wrong?"
After putting Riley to sleep, the two had originally planned to have some couple time. Who knew that right after Quinley finished her shower, this ill-timed call came.
"Wise was taken to the police station. I'm going to pick him up. You stay home with Riley."
Quinley opened the door, ready to go downstairs. Zachary quickly followed.
"The nanny is home. Don't worry about Riley. I'll go with you."
With that, they went downstairs together.
When they arrived at the police station, Quinley saw a dejected Wise.
She didn't say anything, just walked over and ruffled his hair.
"I'm sorry for making you come out so late."
He had both hands stuffed in his pockets, his face full of dejection and disappointment.
Zachary patted him on the shoulder. "Get in the car first. Leave this to me."
