Chapter 362 Make Oliver Propose
Chapter 362 Make Oliver Propose
Oliver immediately got up and followed her out.
Once outside, he turned to look at Daniela. Her face remained expressionless.
"Actually, you didn't have to donate it all."
Daniela stopped in her tracks. "I don't say things I'll regret. His money—it's dirty to me."
A few days later, Daniela suddenly received a call from Caroline.
"Daniela, this is Caroline."
"If there's nothing important, please don't contact me again." Daniela was about to hang up.
"Daniela, Sunny wants to talk to you." Caroline hurriedly stopped her.
She paused. Sunny's voice came through the phone.
"Daniela, this is Sunny. Thank you."
Hearing those words of thanks, Daniela's eyelids drooped involuntarily.
She wasn't a soft-hearted person, but when it came to Sunny, she couldn't bring herself to be cold.
"It's nothing. I just did what I had to do. Take care of yourself from now on. Bye."
Daniela spoke quickly and was about to hang up again.
"Daniela, will I be able to see you again?"
"I don't think so."
Daniela steeled herself and hung up, then blocked the number.
After doing all this, she thought she'd feel better, but she didn't.
When someone is controlled by their emotions, they easily lose control.
If Sunny hadn't said thank you, she could have pretended she'd just helped a stranger.
But she did say it, and now Daniela felt terrible, because Sunny was the only person in this world who shared her blood.
She thought again of Sunny sitting in that wheelchair. Now, he'd escaped the torment of leukemia, but still couldn't escape the wheelchair.
And what about her? She thought doing this would make her feel better, but it backfired.
At some point, Oliver came up to the terrace.
He spotted Daniela right away.
Her figure was slender and graceful, lying on a lounge chair under the sun umbrella with her eyes closed, but her brow was tightly furrowed.
She wasn't someone who could hide her emotions, but her profession had taught her to suppress them.
"What's wrong? Still upset with Martha?"
Oliver chose the lounge chair next to Daniela and sat down, his eyes fixed on her.
"No."
She denied it flatly.
Oliver smiled slightly. "Your brother has been discharged from the hospital. I asked the doctor—he's doing well."
Daniela said nothing.
Oliver understood now. Daniela's mood probably had something to do with this.
She had a father, but he loved that disabled son more and ignored his excellent daughter. It was normal for her to feel hurt.
Oliver couldn't find the words to comfort Daniela.
"Come on, I'll take you somewhere."
Oliver said to Daniela.
"I'm not going."
Daniela refused outright.
But Oliver didn't give Daniela a chance to refuse. He leaned over, looking down at her from above.
"If you don't agree, I'm going to kiss you right now."
Daniela's eyes flew open to find Oliver's handsome face right in front of her.
Startled, she pushed hard against Oliver's chest, but thanks to those three months of training, he was unmovable.
"You have two choices now. Either I kiss you, or you come with me."
Daniela didn't answer, using all her strength to try to push Oliver away.
Oliver had the advantage of position. With Daniela lying down like that, she couldn't get any leverage.
After a silent struggle, Daniela lost.
A triumphant smile appeared on Oliver's lips. "I'll give you one more chance."
"Where are we going?"
Oliver got his way and immediately straightened up. "Don't worry, you definitely won't regret it."
He started walking out. "I'll wait for you in the car. Get ready and come out."
Daniela lifted her wrist to check the time—4 PM.
She went back to her room, changed into jeans and a casual top, grabbed her crossbody bag, and headed out. Martha poked her head out from the kitchen. "Where are you going now?"
She was on high alert now, afraid Daniela was going to see Justin.
"On a date."
Daniela tossed out those two words and left.
Martha rushed to the window to look out. Seeing Daniela get into Oliver's car, she relaxed a little.
The car roared out of Maple Estate. Daniela turned to look at Oliver. "Where exactly are we going?"
Oliver kept his eyes on the road. "Somewhere that'll make you happy."
Daniela let out a breath and leaned back in her seat.
The chaos in her head swayed with the movement of the car.
Soon, the car pulled up in front of a bar in the city center. Oliver opened the door and said to Daniela, "Get out."
Daniela looked confused. "Why did you bring me here?"
It wasn't opening time yet, and everything around was quiet.
Oliver didn't answer. He took out his phone and made a call. Soon a man appeared.
"Mr. Jennings, you're here. Please, come in."
The man took out a key, opened the door, and led Oliver inside.
"Come with me."
Oliver said to Daniela again.
She stood at the entrance, her suspicious eyes scanning the interior.
Daniela had been to plenty of bars. She wasn't worried about that. What she didn't understand was why Oliver was bringing her to a place like this at this time.
Though confused, she still followed Oliver inside.
The man chatted warmly with Oliver as they walked. At the staircase, Oliver stopped.
"We're going to the second floor."
He said and walked forward.
The man winked at Daniela. "Don't worry, beautiful. Mr. Jennings has arranged everything. I'm personally taking care of you two."
Daniela silently followed Oliver upstairs. They entered a large private room.
It had an excellent location, with a window overlooking the dance floor below.
The man quickly came in with lots of drinks.
"You two sit tight. I'll go get you some fruit and snacks."
"Okay."
Oliver responded casually.
Within five minutes, the man had everything arranged and left.
"Come on, let's drink."
He opened a bottle of whiskey and poured Daniela a glass. "We're not leaving till we're drunk."
Daniela didn't pick up the glass. Oliver tilted his head back and downed it himself.
After finishing the drink, he showed a silly smile.
"Let me tell you my story. You know, I'm the Jennings family third son, the Mr. Oliver Jennings everyone talks about. A lot of people envy my background, but I really hate this identity. You know why?"
Tears welled up in Oliver's eyes. "You'll never guess. Since I was little, I watched my family bully Zach. Everyone came up with different ways to target him, trying to drive him out of the family. I wanted to stop them, but I couldn't. I wanted to get close to him, but he didn't like me. So when I turned eighteen, I said I wanted to study abroad and left them all behind."
"But those years away weren't good at all. The reason I refused to come home was because I didn't really have a home. We're supposed to be family, but everyone is so fake. I make films because I want to expose all this ugliness. Now my dad is dead, I sent my mom and brother to prison, and Zach is afraid I'll feel guilty, so he keeps trying to care about me. But the more they do this, the worse I feel."
"But no matter how bad I feel, I can't show it. I can only keep it all bottled up inside. Daniela, what I'm trying to say isn't that I'm pitiful, but that everyone has their own pain. What we need to do is keep moving forward with optimism and strength, instead of blaming ourselves or resenting others."
After saying all this, he poured himself another glass of whiskey, slumped on the sofa, and downed it in one gulp.
"A lot of times when I'm in a bad mood, I don't have friends to talk to, so I come here. This is my secret hideout. I drink alone here quietly, and when I'm tired of drinking, I sit by this window and watch people letting loose on the dance floor below. Then I feel like I'm letting loose too."
After finishing that drink, Oliver closed his eyes.
Whether he was tired, sleepy, or just lost in his memories, it was hard to tell.
Daniela hadn't asked a single question the whole time. Everyone has their own story. Whether you tell it or keep it hidden, it's always there.
She picked up her glass and took a big gulp. The harsh liquor burned in her throat.
She stared at the window in a daze, letting the memories that had taken root in her heart slowly revive, awaken, rage, calm down, and fall asleep...
Later, she copied Oliver and closed her eyes.
The alcohol gradually numbed her nerves, and soon she found that floating, intoxicated feeling.
After that, she seemed to fall asleep.
When she woke up again, noise came from outside, and Oliver's jacket was draped over her.
He stood tall by the window, holding a drink, staring down at the most lively spot below.
Daniela took off Oliver's jacket, got up, and walked to his side.
"Watching other people's fun isn't as good as enjoying your own."
With that, she grabbed Oliver's arm and pulled him downstairs.
On the dance floor, all kinds of people were swaying.
Daniela pulled Oliver into the crowd.
Clearly, he couldn't let loose.
Everyone was twisting wildly like demons. Daniela, with her long limbs, moved gracefully.
She shook her hair, her short hair flying, looking spirited and bold.
But at one moment, she caught sight of Oliver.
He stood there stiffly, barely moving, looking completely restrained.
"Be bolder! No one's watching you. Move! It's really stress-relieving."
Daniela shouted in Oliver's ear.
"I don't know how to dance."
Oliver yelled back.
"I don't know how either. Just move however you want. No one cares."
Daniela shouted again.
She danced freely, shaking her hair, twisting her waist, her movements exaggerated but full of energy.
Oliver got infected by her energy and raised his hands, dancing wildly.
At one moment, he really found joy.
A smile spread across his face, sweat gathered on his forehead, but none of that mattered. He just twisted and jumped crazily.
Suddenly, somehow, a girl closest to Oliver was knocked to the ground.
Oliver didn't notice at all. He kept jumping and twisting crazily.
"Hey, are you fucking blind?"
A tall, burly guy emerged from the crowd, grabbed Oliver by the collar, and yelled at him.
The crowd stepped back. Only then did Oliver notice someone had fallen.
He snapped out of his frenzy. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I didn't notice."
He kept apologizing, his attitude very sincere.
"Sorry? How much is that worth?"
Another equally tall and burly man appeared next to the first guy.
Oliver glanced at them. Both were clearly trained fighters, bigger and stronger than him.
"I'll take her to the hospital right now. I'll pay all the medical bills."
Oliver said.
But one of them pointed at Oliver's nose and cursed, "Don't you fucking understand what Lex is saying? You hit Lex's girl, and you think some medical bills will solve this?"
"What do you want?"
Just then, Daniela stood beside Oliver.
Her sharp eyes were full of edge.
She raised her hand and knocked away the hand gripping Oliver's collar.
"What do we want?" The tall guy sneered.
He gave a signal, and the man with him immediately made a move.
In a flash, Oliver grabbed Daniela's wrist and ran outside.
Knowing he and Daniela were no match for them, the best option was to run.
Daniela had never run from a fight before.
She looked confused, but her feet moved incredibly fast with Oliver.
They were light and agile, navigating through the noisy crowd like fish in water, quickly reaching the door.
The two tall guys weren't about to give up and immediately chased after them.
"Where do you think you're going?"
Daniela looked back. The distance between them wasn't too big.
Oliver, driven by sheer courage, said, "Keep running forward."
In middle school, he was the famous long-distance running champion and participated in marathons every year.
Now, he pulled Daniela's wrist, and the two of them ran frantically along the street.
The two tall guys chased desperately behind them. Oliver was afraid they might get in a car and chase them, so he ran specifically into small alleys.
After who knows how many alleys, they finally lost the two men.
"Are we safe now?"
Daniela braced her hands on her thighs, gasping for breath.
Oliver was also breathing heavily, but he was still looking around alertly.
"I don't know."
"So what do we do now?"
"Can you keep running?"
"Of course I can."
Daniela gave a definite answer.
"Okay, let's keep running."
At Oliver's command, Daniela took off after him again.
When they finally ran all the way back to Maple Estate, everyone at the dinner table was shocked.
"What happened to you two?"
Martha opened the gate. She was too surprised to speak. Oliver and Daniela were both soaking wet, like they'd fallen into a pond.
"Martha, it's nothing. I wanted to go running, so I pulled Daniela along for a jog."
"Daniela, did you fall in the water?"
When Daniela came in, Riley immediately noticed and asked loudly.
Oliver came in after her, and Riley's voice got even louder. "Uncle, did Daniela push you in the water?"
"Just eat your dinner."
Oliver said to Riley.
She rolled her eyes. "If Daniela didn't push you in the water, then you must have played hero and saved her."
Quinley tapped Riley's forehead lightly. "Eat properly and stop talking nonsense."
"I'm not talking nonsense. Uncle just likes Daniela."
Riley said at the top of her voice.
Then she buried herself in Zachary's arms.
Quinley gave Zachary a look. It seemed some things were becoming obvious despite attempts to hide them.
After dinner, Quinley and Zachary went to the back garden.
"Why don't you talk to Oliver? If he really likes Daniela, he should pursue her openly. We need to give Martha an explanation."
"Okay, I'll go in a bit. You should also talk to Daniela and see how she reacts. If it works out, we could just make the decision and have them get engaged."
The couple made their plan and immediately split up to act on it.
