Chapter 194 Register for Marriage Again

Chapter 194 Register for Marriage Again

"Why?"

Quinley looked suspicious.

But Zachary kept the secret. "Come with me somewhere. You'll find out when we get there."

Four o'clock that afternoon, Zachary insisted on going out. No one could stop him.

"There are too many people out there. Why not wait until tomorrow?" Quinley tried to persuade him.

After Alicia's spectacle, he'd been thrust into the spotlight. If Zachary left the hospital now, it would inevitably attract even more attention. Both of them preferred to keep a low profile and were immune to excessive public scrutiny.

"No. It has to be today." Zachary's tone was unusually resolute.

Unable to dissuade him, Quinley had no choice but to go along.

The moment they left the hospital, they became walking magnets. Passersby pulled out their phones to snap photos, and the bolder ones rushed over requesting selfies.

"Sorry, we have something very important to do right now."

Zachary blocked the cameras and declined all photo requests. He was in a hurry, pulling Quinley by the hand as they pushed through the crowd and hurried toward the exit.

In the car, Zachary kept checking the time and urging the driver. "Faster! Can you go faster?"

He was usually the author of composure, but now he seemed particularly anxious.

"What's so urgent?" Quinley was still confused.

Zachary decided to stop being mysterious. He pulled their marriage registration documents from his pocket.

"Quinny, let's get divorced."

Quinley froze. She could barely believe her ears.

Zachary quickly explained, "I mean divorce Quinley Elikin, and then marry Cindy Promise."

False alarm.

"Is it really necessary to go through all this again?" Quinley asked.

Zachary gripped her small hand tightly. "It's necessary. Very necessary. If I'd listened to you last time, we wouldn't have all this trouble now. To eliminate any future problems, I need to marry your current identity—Cindy. Quinny, will you marry me again?"

He pressed her fingers to his lips and kissed them repeatedly.

"Yes." Quinley nodded emphatically.

Alicia's drama had indeed been aggravating, but at the same time, it had drawn them even closer.

Zachary pulled Quinley into his arms. They stayed nestled together like that.

With twenty minutes left before the civil affairs bureau closed, Quinley and Zachary finally arrived.

Zachary had called ahead. The process went smoothly.

Divorce certificate, then marriage certificate. The whole thing took just seventeen minutes.

When they emerged this time, each held new documents in their hands.

As soon as they got in the car, Zachary craftily took Quinley's marriage registration documents again.

"These are safer with me."

He pressed the documents against his chest, holding them tightly.

Quinley wasn't having it. She immediately snatched the divorce certificates from his hands.

"Let's burn these."

The idea suddenly popped into her head.

"Good idea." Zachary eagerly agreed.

The car stopped by the riverbank. Zachary pulled out a lighter and without hesitation set fire to both divorce certificates.

Flames consumed the papers that represented Quinley's past, turning them completely to ash.

From now on, she was simply Cindy.

Three days later, Dennis was released from detention.

Marlee went to pick him up personally. The moment she saw him, she rushed forward and threw her arms around him.

"Denny, you're finally out! Let me look at you. Are you okay?"

Her voice choked with tears, her eyes full of concern for Dennis.

"I'm fine. Stop crying all the time—it's so annoying."

Dennis pushed her away impatiently.

"You said last time that my sister is alive. Is that true?"

"Yes, she's alive." Marlee quickly confirmed.

Dennis laughed coldly. "Good. As long as she's alive, I still have hope."

"Come on, let's go find her now."

With that, Dennis followed Marlee to Quinley's residence.

After marrying Zachary, Quinley had stopped going to Apex Global Group. She and Elise had moved to Maple Estate. Martha had returned as well, and she and Elise got along wonderfully.

That afternoon, Quinley had just sat down for lunch when the gate bell rang.

Martha quickly got up to check. Soon she returned, looking uncertain. "Mrs. Jennings, your adoptive mother and brother are here."

"What are they doing here? Send them away." Elise's emotions flared immediately.

Martha looked helplessly at Quinley.

Quinley thought for a moment, then stood up. "Mom, you go ahead and eat. I'll step out for a minute."

Elise was worried and grabbed Quinley's hand. "Cindy, after everything they've done to you, don't be soft-hearted. I can't bear to see them hurt you again."

"Mom, I know what I'm doing. Don't worry." She patted Elise's hand and resolutely went outside.

Beyond the gate, Marlee stood with Dennis, both waiting expectantly.

When Quinley emerged, Marlee's face immediately broke into a smile.

"Quinny, your brother came to see you! The moment he got out, he insisted on coming to see you."

Marlee gestured for Dennis to step forward.

Quinley's gaze fell coolly on Dennis. He seemed to have grown a bit taller, though he was noticeably thinner.

"Sis, I'm out. Open the gate and let me and Mom in."

Quinley didn't move. She just stood there.

"Sis, what's wrong?"

Seeing Quinley remain unmoved, Dennis's expression changed.

She took a deep breath and finally spoke. "Denny, thank you for coming to see me. But I'm not your sister anymore."

Dennis had been detained, cut off from outside information. He knew nothing about Alicia stealing Quinley's identity.

"How can you not be my sister? We grew up together. You've always been my sister."

Dennis sounded bewildered.

Marlee knew the truth. Now her eyes darted around, not daring to meet Quinley's gaze.

"Quinny, I was confused for a moment. But I did it for your brother! He's out safe now—can't you just let it go?"

She'd given Quinley's identity to Alicia, and now she was telling Quinley not to hold a grudge.

Quinley smiled. Marlee's shamelessness was truly masterful.

"Mrs. Elikin, your daughter is someone else now. You shouldn't have come here."

With that, Quinley turned and walked back inside.

"Mom, what the hell is going on?" Dennis roared.

Only then did Marlee tell Dennis about transferring the identity.

"Denny, I did this all for you! Ms. Davis said she'd arrange for you to enter the Davis Group and give you a position as sales director."

"Really?" Dennis's scheming mind started working again.

"Absolutely true. She said as soon as you're out, you can report directly to the Davis Group. She's arranged everything."

An hour later, Dennis appeared in front of the Davis Group building.

Though not as imposing as Apex Global Group, the Davis Group was still one of Rosewood City's top enterprises.

Dennis had hit a wall at Apex Global Group. Now he pinned his hopes on the Davis Group.

He entered the lobby and strode confidently inward, but he'd barely taken a few steps when security blocked his path.

"Get out!"

Their tone was rude.

Dennis's rebellious nerves were triggered. "Who the hell do you think you're talking to? Do you know who I am?"

The two security guards exchanged glances. Without another word, each grabbed one of Dennis's arms and dragged him toward the exit.

"Let me go! I'm the new sales director!"

But no one listened to Dennis.

He'd barely stepped into the Davis Group building before being thrown out.

After that, he never got another chance to approach that building again.
