Chapter 53
Ruby
I was walking away when I felt someone grab my wrist. I didn't have to turn around to know it was Phoenix.
"Let me go," I said not bothering to turn around.
"No. I won't let you walk away from me. It's never too late. I made some mistakes but I don't deserve this. You are going to sit down and listen to me because I'll be damned if I planned this out for nothing." he was furious but I didn't care.
"Thank you. Really I mean it, thank you. You thought enough about me to plan out a descent dinner. You went through the trouble of having your staff get everything in order so you wouldn't have to get your hands dirty. I feel really special. The best part is you actually thought the little effort that you put in was enough to change anything." That got his attention.
"Wow. You really have a way with words sweetheart. You worded that beautifully. I have to give you credit. Too bad you have no idea what the hell you're talking about. You see I didn't do all of this because I thought you would just magically forgive me. I did this to ask you for a chance to earn your forgiveness. My staff had nothing at all to do with this. It was all me. I never minded getting my hands dirty. In fact, I enjoy it. As stubborn as you are, I still want you. But let me make this clear. I am tired of fucking apologizing. I am an alpha. It took everything in me to admit I was wrong. But you continue to try and make me pay, no more. I'm done. Don't forgive me. Just know that I didn't give up on us. At least I was willing to try."
He left and I felt completely dumbfounded. I was supposed to walk away. I was supposed to be fed up, not him. Yet here I was wondering when the tables had turned. Maybe I was stubborn. Maybe I was dwelling on the past and all of his faults. But who could blame me? He was my worst nightmare come true when it came to a mate. He had no right to be angry with me for not running into his arms.
"But you could be a little less difficult," my wolf said. Was she right? Was I taking this too far? I didn't think so. It was true I wasn't the easiest to get along with right now. But I was a woman of my word. I wanted him to see my point of view. I wanted to be able to trust him. He took that away. I needed him to understand that just because we are mates doesn't mean there should be instant love. We needed to build a relationship without the pull.
"Then you have to let him prove himself. He can't do that if you push him away."
I knew she was right but I just wasn't ready to act like nothing ever happened. He said wanted me. He said he would never let me go. I just hoped he was telling the truth.
