Luis’s POV

That night was two days ago and I don’t know if it’s because of the cold; the little thief stole my blanket! Or because it’s close to June 26, but my body was burning so hot in class, I had to be transferred to the sickbay.

It’s uncomfortable and I feel like every muscle in my body is twisting in pain to remind me of the pain I was in back then.
I’ve been like this since midnight, but I hid it as much as I could because I didn’t want to stay back home with that man.

Now, I was facing the consequences of my stubbornness with my life. Because not only is the nurse not around, I am also the only one inside the clinic.

If things escalated, then I would only be kissing my dear life goodbye.

We still hadn’t spoken since that dinner, and I refused to be the one to make the first move.

He could be the bigger person for all I cared. But mere apology wouldn’t cut.

It has been tradition for the past 3 years for me to take a sick leave a week prior and a week after to make it two weeks in total.

But just one day would do. I don’t care if my body is melting, I still wouldn’t stay at home alone and risk a conversation with him.

That selfish undeserving man.

I turned in my bed with great difficulty just in time for some commotion to erupt in the hallways.

I knew without a doubt that it was those crazy basketballers.

They always had one casualty or the other. Sometimes I admired them, other times they just looked plain stupid. Thankfully, I was at the furthermost bed in the room.

So when they came barging in with their first victim of the day, they didn’t notice me.

“He had been absentminded in these past weeks and now an injury?” The whole essence of their words centered around how surprised they were that this particular person had never had an accident on the court and was one of their best players.

Best players?

My mind first went out to Garber, but when I remembered the ruthless way with which he broke up with his girl—Mia in the cafeteria yesterday, I suddenly felt a lot of calm.

First, he deserved it, whatever it is that happened to him.

Second, I believe that he is above any form of distraction. What could possibly be bubbling in his mind that would distract him to such an extent?

It made no sense at all.

I turned around and pretended to sleep while they went out to fetch the nurse.

At some point, I think I fell asleep, because when I felt a tap on my shoulder, I was startled out of sleep.

I shivered from the contact.

“Hmm?” I mumbled under my breath, as I struggled to open my eyes properly. My vision remained blurry as it took me a while to focus on anything.

But when my eyes met his black pair of eyes, my heart skipped and I jolted up, bumping my head into his.

He didn’t wince nor react. Instead, he remained there, hovering over me.
