Chapter 20

These couple of months have been quite tough due to the workload of the opening of our branch here. As tough as the months have been, Rachel was there to make things look less tough for him. Even on days he insisted she didn't have to stress herself to cook something for him to eat that he was going to have take out she still would make him breakfast. He was happy seeing that he had been sad for way too long. The one thing he wasn't too happy about was that Rachel didn't want him to show that were into any form of relationship when he came around her office. She didn't want anyone thinking the reason he was doing all he did was because he was dating one of it's staff.

They had been friends for three months and when they saw that their trust for each other was becoming solid, they decided it was time to take it to the next level. Ever since then they had been dating even till this very moment. He would pick her up from work in the evenings and drop her off at the hospital park in the morning. There was this male doctor that always walked her to the door every time he came to pick her. They seemed to be very good friends but he still didn't like the idea. He hated to admit that he was only reacting that way because he was too possessive. He didn't like the way her face lit up at things he said to her before she entered the car.

He trusted her but he couldn't say the same for the doctor. Who wouldn't want to have Rachel as theirs? Her radiance and beauty will leave you in a state of  amazement.

During this months, he had come to fall in love with Bathina. The people were happy even if they didn't have much. Rachel was closing late today from work and so was he.  There was alot of work from the headquarters he needed to sign.

The clouds had gotten darker indicating that night had fallen. He packed his things and drove to pick up Rachel. After several attempts of calling her line, He walked into the hospital and asked where he could find her. He was directed to the doctor's locker room. He opened the door and was bewildered by the scene before him. Rachel's back was facing him and there was the doctor he despised all-over her face. He couldn't clearly figure out what was going on but all he knew was the doctor's face was way too close to hers. Anyone would think they were kissing. He didn't know what to think. Especially because they didn't even notice he was at the door until he spoke.

“Rachel?” he said.

“Aiden. Hope I didn't keep you waiting. You must have called me.”

“Yes I did. You must have been very busy”

“Yes I was earlier. My bad. Aiden this is Dr Clifford my very good friend and Clifford this is my boyfriend.”

“It is nice to meet you Aiden. I have heard alot about you.” Clifford said.

He couldn't say the same.

“Rachel, incase you still feel like there is something in your eyes, I advise you see an optician. Do have a lovely night rest and once again, it was nice meeting you.”

Something in her eyes? He honestly didn't know what to think. What if he kissed her and was trying to cover up his tracks hence the thing about her eyes. He trusted Rachel but he didn't trust the so called Clifford. It was so obvious he had feelings for Rachel. Merely looking at his body language one could easily detect. What if he came unto her. There was this one time he was explaining to his female Personal assistant where to make necessary adjustments to a document when he realised she had suddenly gone quite. He raised his head to find out what was happening and she suddenly kissed him. Even in his state of furiousness, he had to gently push her back to avoid any accident. She knew he was married and yet she kissed him. Right there and then, he wrote her a check and dismissed her instantly. He also remembered the first night when he was ill and she was moping his body. If that call didn't come in they would have kissed. And she happened to be in a relationship at that time. What was he to think?

“Is everything okay? You've been so quiet since the hospital. Did you have a bad day at work today?” Rachel asked.

“It's nothing. Just tired,” he replied.

The rest of the journey to Rachel's place was filled with silence. Even when Rachel decided to bring up conversations, he would end it with a one-word reply. She took it as a cue to shut up. He had just complained of being tired earlier and she wasn't about to contribute to it.

“Aren't you coming in?”

“Not tonight Rachel. Sweet dreams,” he said as he placed a kiss on her head.

Rachel knew something was up. He always came in no matter how tired he was. And to make matters worse, he kissed her on her head like a child who's off to school. Before she could ask what was going on, she had driven off. She could him but after two rings, his line was forwarding. She didn't want to assume anything so she concluded that he was just tired.

The rest of the week went by in a blur. After what happened the last time, A day after Aiden sent her a text message that he would be travelling the following day. He had been acting so strangely. He hardly returned her calls and on days when he did, he would reply shortly and complain about work and being busy. Something like this had never happened before since they had been dating. She didn't know if she should travel to see him so they could talk about it or she should wait for him to come back. She was urgently needed at the hospital so there was no way she could travel. The most frustrating part was he didn't even know when he was coming back. She was sad about it but there was nothing she could do then wait. There were lives needed to be saved.

Aiden's presence had become an addiction to her and she didn't know what to do anymore. It's been two weeks and he still claim to be busy at the headquarters. She was so used to him coming to pick her that sometimes, she would be expecting him forgetting he traveled.  She would book a flight for Friday evening to travel to see him since she had the weekend off.
