Chapter 110

Chapter 110
Amara’s POV.

“Shit!” Apollo cursed.

I instinctively covered my ears as there was a deafening explosion happening at Scarlet Crescent. Upon our arrival, we found a smoky, chaotic scene with structures damaged and in disarray.

“Apollo, contact your wife and let them know they need to prepare medicine for the wounded,” Damien ordered.

I closed my eyes and let out a forceful exhale, the sounds of pain and suffering echoing in my ears.

“Okay!”

“Amelia, Ralph, and Henry, start bringing the wounded to the pack house for treatment,” he commanded, and they immediately sprang into action.

Without hesitation, he turned to me and handed me a handkerchief to cover my nose.

“I was told by Lucian that our border had been bombed, so I’m going to go and check on our pack warriors stationed there,” he said. “Will you be safe?”

I nodded confidently. “Of course. You know me, Damien. You know how strong your wife is.”

He cupped my cheeks. “I do know, and I have faith in you, my Luna.”

Returning his smile, I reached out to touch his arm. “Take care,” I reminded him.

He leaned in and kissed my forehead. “You too, honey. I love you,” he whispered softly.

“I love you too,” I replied, watching him leave until he disappeared from my sight.

“Luna, we will help bring the wounded ones for treatment,” Phoenix suggested.

“That’s a good idea,” I agreed.

With that, he immediately departed with Wendy and Elijah. I was left with Enna, Count, and Odessa, wondering what our next move should be.

“What should we do now?” Count asked me.

Before I could even open my mouth to respond, another loud explosion rocked the area, shaking the ground beneath us.

As the buildings in Scarlet Crescent tumbled like two long dominoes, my keen eyes scanned the chaos for any signs of collapse. Not far away, we saw a young girl rooted in her place, right in front of the building that was slowly falling.

I wasted no time and, using my abilities, I sprinted towards the girl before the building finally crashed to the ground with a loud thud.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

Trembling, the girl looked up at me, and I could see the traces of fear in her eyes.

I smiled at her. “You’re safe now,” I said, gently placing a hand on her back.

“T-Thank you, Luna,” she stammered.

I glanced up to see the large building blocking the path between us and Odessa. I couldn’t see them because of the wreckage of the fallen building that served as a barrier.

A cough escaped my lips as I inhaled the acrid smoke billowing from the burning parts of Scarlet Crescent.

“Anna!” a woman’s voice called out, echoing through the chaos.

Turning my gaze, I spotted a woman rushing towards us. When she neared, she scooped up the girl I had just saved, holding her tightly in her arms. Tears streamed down both their faces.

“Oh, my poor daughter…” the woman choked out, and that’s when I realized she was the girl’s mother.

She lifted her gaze and tearfully thanked me.

I smiled faintly. “You’re welcome. Leave this place and go to the pack house to have your wounds treated,” I advised, noticing the scratches on their bodies.

“Yes, Luna,” she replied before hurrying away with her daughter.

Shortly after they disappeared from sight, my attention was drawn to a figure in the distance. Instinctively, my feet moved, running towards that direction. But to my surprise, the shadowy figure did the same, seemingly matching my speed. I quickened my pace to catch up to it.

“It’s heading to the forest,” Ruby pointed out. I concurred, immediately veering in that direction.

I reached the lush greenery of the forest and was in the middle when I stopped. I scanned my surroundings and felt the energy around me. I sharpened my senses even more, attuning myself to the silence.

My vision deepened, and I quickly moved and ran when I detected movement to my left. I could see it closer now.

Suddenly, without warning, I found myself sprawled on the ground, covered in a layer of leafy debris from the surrounding trees, as I didn’t expect her to throw a blue arcane magic. I winced at the stinging sensation where it hit my shoulder.

She paused, slightly bending down while maintaining her stance, allowing me to see her face. She smirked at me, the irritating one – the kind that made you want to wipe it off with a swift strike. I glared at her, refusing to let her get under my skin.

“You still haven’t changed, Amara. Always poking your nose where it doesn’t belong,” she taunted.

I let out a sarcastic laugh and stood up from my fall. “You too,” I retorted, grinning at her. “You still like hiding behind facades to attract those you want, Natasha.”

She gritted her teeth, and I noticed her forming blue arcane magic once again in her right hand.

“I can’t believe Damien chose to be with someone like you. Someone who is clueless about her own true self,” she spat.

My grin widened, showing her that her words didn’t affect me. I would never allow her to claim victory over my identity.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I calmly feigned ignorance, masking my true intentions.

She laughed mockingly and raised an eyebrow while playing with the blue ball of arcane magic in her hand. She was indeed a witch.

“Oh, cousin, don’t play innocent with me. Are you trying to manipulate me into revealing something?”

I scoffed inwardly. Cousin, my ass!

“But since I’m kind, I’ll give you a little hint…” she trailed off.

I stared at her, observing her actions. I couldn’t let my guard down around her because I was unsure of what she might do next.

A sinister smile curled on her lips as she leaned closer. “You won’t be leaving here alive.”

I rolled my eyes, dismissing her taunt. “Well, look at me, I’m already outside!” I retorted, refusing to let her provoke me.

Her sneer twisted into a look of disbelief. “Argh! You... I hate your guts!” she exclaimed in frustration before launching her blue arcane magic towards me.

But this time, I anticipated her attack. Swiftly, I dodged her every strike, evading her magical onslaught with finesse.

When I found an opportunity, I kicked her and she flew, hitting a nearby tree. I heard her groan in pain.

“Bitch!” she shouted at me and charged towards me.

We fought in combat. She knew how to fight, but I wasn’t a queen for nothing. My training had taught me a thing or two about defending myself from a young age.

As time went on, her frustration seemed to escalate. She had expected an easy conquest, underestimating my strength. Her moves became more aggressive, more desperate, as she realized that victory was not within easy reach. We pushed each other to the limits of our abilities, neither willing to concede defeat.

And then, in a split second that felt both frozen and fleeting, it happened. With a well-placed strike, I landed a blow to her stomach, causing her to cough and momentarily falter.

She clutched her stomach, glaring at me with intense disdain. Through gritted teeth, she snarled, “Your day will come, Amara.”

I furrowed my brow and teasingly looked at her. “Giving up already? That was just a light kick,” I challenged her.

To my astonishment, her reaction was a smirk of amusement.

“Thank you for the entertainment,” she said, making my heart race.

Before I could react, she turned and disappeared from my sight, leaving me stunned and breathless. I shook my head and let out a shaky breath.

What did she mean by those words?

“Luna!”

I jolted when I heard Ralph’s urgent voice in my mind. A feeling of apprehension came over me.

“What is it, Ralph?”

“Luna, the Alpha King…” he delivered the news.

My heart dropped at what I heard, and I blinked rapidly. I tried to absorb his words. Then, suddenly, I felt a heavy weight in my chest.

Our bond.

Once I regained my composure, I quickly made my way towards the pack house. Each step felt urgent, propelling me forward. In less than ten minutes, I reached my destination.

I was almost out of breath, but I managed to ask one of our pack warriors about my husband’s condition.

“He’s in your room, Luna, being treated,” the warrior informed me.

Upon hearing that, I rushed inside, barely registering the presence of Phoenix, Henry, and Apollo, who were also tending to the injured outside the pack house.

They had set up tents in front. There were many individuals, and I could smell the dried blood in the air, as well as some fresh ones, intermingling with the cries and worries of those present. But at that moment, my focus was solely on my husband’s well-being.

When I arrived in our room, I was greeted by Amelia, Astra, Masha, Enna, Lucian, and Count. My eyes immediately sought out my husband, lying on the bed. I approached him slowly.

“What happened?” I asked.

“He had a heated battle with Axel, but the man resorted to dirty tactics. He used Lucian as bait,” Masha explained. “He saved Lucian from an explosion that could have been fatal. Unfortunately, he was caught in the blast before he could get away. But don’t worry, Luna, he only suffered a few scratches and a bump. He just needs some rest.”

I breathed a sigh of relief as I gazed at my husband’s bruised face. Despite the injuries, he still looked good. I was grateful that the situation hadn’t been worse.

I took a deep breath. “I thought something terrible had happened to him. The way Ralph informed me had me fearing the worst.”

“He must be incredibly shaken. I saw him earlier, and he looked extremely pale. Witnessing everything must have triggered something within him,” Astra speculated.

“Alright, I’ll take care of him. The rest of you, please help downstairs,” I said, then turned to Lucian. “Are you okay?”

He nodded and bowed his head respectfully. “Yes, Luna.”

“Good. Please tell Ralph to add more guards at the border. It has already been compromised, and they could easily enter if given the chance. We can’t afford any further breaches into our pack,” I ordered, to which he acknowledged before leaving the room. The others followed suit.

“Let me know if you need anything, Amara,” Masha said, standing in the doorway with her hand on the doorknob.

I nodded. “I will, thank you.”

She nodded and was about to close the door but halted and turned back to me.

“Oh, by the way, Layla is on her way. She heard about the attack and wants to help.”

I rolled my eyes at the mention of Layla’s name. “Can you handle her?”

Because I couldn’t.

She chuckled. “No, the real question is, can you handle her, Amara? Well, good luck. That lady doctor is crazy,” she said, laughing before finally shutting the door.

“I know,” I mumbled under my breath.

“You can handle her. After all, you two are childhood friends,” Ruby teased in my mind.

I grimaced at the thought. “Shut up, Ruby!”
