Chapter 108

Chapter 108
Two days had gone by, and I could feel it. I could feel the upcoming war between all of Alvinia and Axel’s sinister schemes. I could feel the tension delay in the air. I knew all too well how dirty Axel would play his game, and that was my greatest fear.

Taking a deep breath, I attempted to calm my racing thoughts. But a twinge of pain shot through my chest. It wasn’t unbearably agonizing, but it was disconcerting nonetheless. I sat on the edge of the bed, my hand instinctively clutching my chest, trying to ease the ache. I couldn’t escape the building sensation inside me. I didn’t know if it was just in my head, but something was stirring within me, though I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

The creaking sound of the door opening jolted my attention. My husband appeared before me, his face bearing concern as his eyes landed on my uncomfortable position. Without hesitation, he hurried toward me.

“What happened?” he asked with worry evident in his voice.

I mustered a small smile, not wanting to burden him further. “Don’t fret, it’s probably just because I haven’t had proper sleep in days,” I replied, doing my best to downplay the situation.

He inspected me for a moment, a sigh escaping his lips as he settled beside me. He drew me closer, enveloping me in his embrace, his arm encircling my frame. That made me smile, and I allowed myself to lean against his chest. Hearing the rhythmic thump of his heartbeat made me feel safe. I closed my eyes, surrendering to the tranquility of the moment.

“Damien?” I called out to him.

“Hmm?” he responded, his touch gentle as he kissed my hair and caressed it tenderly.

“What are your thoughts on Samael?” I asked, hesitatingly.

I sensed a momentary stillness in him before he answered. He took a deep breath and continued to shower me with affection.

“He’s alright. Why do you ask?”

I adjusted my sitting position and looked him in the eyes.

“Well... I was just pondering, do you think it wouldn’t be a terrible idea for him to stay with us after all of this chaos is over?” I voiced my thoughts.

I watched closely as emotions flickered across his face. He let out a sigh and grasped my hands in his. He raised my left hand to his lips, planting a kiss on it.

“I know you, Amara. Once you’ve made up your mind, nothing can sway you. Besides, how could I be heartless towards a boy who my beloved wife seems to hold dear?” he spoke.

That’s when I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. I was relieved to hear that he wouldn’t do anything to separate Samael from my life. Because deep down, I knew there was a connection between us. Otherwise, why would I even worry about him, as if he were my own flesh and blood?

“Thank you,” I said emotionally.

“Anything for you, honey.”

His response brought an even wider smile to my face. This side of my husband, the caring and understanding one, was what I had missed during these past few days of misunderstanding. It felt nice to feel this again.

“Mom?”

“Dad!”

We both turned towards the door as our children knocked.

“Mom, Samael doesn’t want to play with me,” Lily complained from outside.

“It’s because she’s too noisy, Mom. Even I don’t like loud vixens,” Diego teased his sister.

Damien walked towards the door to let them in. I saw Lily’s disappointed face as she immediately approached me, seeking comfort in a hug. Meanwhile, Damien lifted Diego and sat him on his lap.

“Mom, can you tell Samael to play with me?” she cutely requested.

I looked at Damien, and it was clear we were both thinking the same thing. It seemed like Samael had also grown closer to our children. He had become a significant figure in our children’s lives, and they looked up to him with admiration. And truth be told, I didn’t have any problem with that.

“Sweetheart, we can’t force Samael if he doesn’t want to play,” I gently explained, trying to manage her expectations.

“But, Mom, I want to paint with him. He is very good at it, very talented. I want to learn from him,” she insisted.

“Lily, what did I tell you?” Damien interjected.

Lily paused, her lower lip jutting out in a pout. She glanced at her father, attempting to turn on the charm.

“Don’t be stubborn?” she reluctantly replied, her head bowed. “Okay, Dad…”

Damien shook his head with a smile, leaning in to plant a kiss on her cheek.

“Alpha? Luna?” a voice called from the open door.

It was Gamma Ralph, who greeted us with a slight bow before delivering his message.

“The guests have arrived,” he informed us.

Damien and I exchanged glances, and I nodded to him. He turned his attention back to his Gamma.

“Prepare some food. Wait for us downstairs,” he ordered.

Ralph nodded before excusing himself. “As you wish, Alpha.”

“Let’s go and welcome them,” I suggested, rising from my seat and lifting Lily into my arms.

We both exited the room. As we descended to the living room, we found a group of over ten individuals waiting there. I scanned the room briefly, trying to find someone, but I didn’t see him.

“Good day, Alpha King and Luna. We are the group from the Reprobatus Clan,” greeted the young man I had seen before, talking to the old lady — the man with red hair.

I offered a nod, and so did Damien. “We are pleased to meet you as allies, not enemies,” he replied.

The man smiled and draped his arm around Samael, making me take notice.

“Samael has told us everything. We are grateful that the refining stone is now in more trustworthy hands and that the children who were held captive have been rescued,” he said.

“We couldn’t have done it without Samael’s help, so we are also grateful,” I responded warmly.

“In that case, we accept the praise of the queen of the wolves,” the man said, slightly bowing.

I smiled and leaned against Damien. As I did so, Lily squirmed in my arms, signaling that she wanted to be put down. I obliged, and noticed Diego was already by Samael’s side, holding his hand.

“Let’s play,” he said excitedly and pulled Samael using his small hand. Samael had no choice but to follow his lead.

I returned my gaze to the man in front of me. “By the way, I’m Amara,” I introduced myself.

“Damien,” my husband added, extending his hand for a handshake.

“I’m Phoenix,” the man replied, offering a handshake in return. “I’m the leader of our clan.”

I nodded and gestured towards the others who should be recognized if they were to join us in the upcoming battle.

“Allow me to introduce Lucian, our Beta, and Ralph, our Gamma,” I pointed to each person in turn.

He looked at the two and nodded in their direction. Then, he turned to the right side of the room where more people stood and continued with his introductions.

“These are Elijah and Wendy,” Phoenix indicated towards them. “They serve as trainers for the warriors in our army.”

“Good day,” the two greeted simultaneously.

“The same to you,” I replied. “Are you hungry? The others aren’t here yet, and they’re still on their way. If you like, we can have lunch while waiting for them.”

They looked at each other and agreed to my invitation.

“No problem. Enna and Count are still on their way,” one of them said.

Though I didn’t show it, curiosity prickled at my senses at the names they mentioned. There were more. Why did, all of a sudden, their names feel oddly familiar too? It caused me to question where I had heard them before. But for the time being, I decided to brush it off, pushing the thought to the back of my mind.

“Come on,” Damien invited us and guided me into the dining area.

“Foods!” Lily exclaimed.

We all laughed at her enthusiasm. She was an angel to all who knew her, and it was impossible not to be charmed by her. She was so precious.

“What’s going on and why is red hair in trend?” Astra questioned, furrowing her brows as soon as she settled into her seat.

Max chuckled and sat beside her. Meanwhile, On the other hand, Odessa slumped onto the table. She looked sleepy and in need of rest.

I turned back to Astra, who asked again, “Where are Masha and Remi? Are they late again?” She shook her head in disbelief.

I simply shrugged, not having the answers she sought, and glanced briefly at Phoenix, who was sitting next to Wendy. Wendy’s beauty was undeniable, with her brown eyes and short grayish hair. She was also slightly taller than me.

Elijah wasn’t here. I found out that he was Wendy’s twin, so they had the same eyes except for their hair color. Elijah had greenish hair.

I shifted my gaze to the Gamma of the Crimson Pack. He was just sitting silently, as if observing the guests. I secretly sighed, assuming it was under Damien’s command. Beta Lucian wasn’t here either. He just left earlier because Damien ordered him to go to the border to patrol.

Speaking of my husband, I saw him entering the meeting room. His eyes immediately scanned the room until they stopped at me. He then walked towards me and kissed the top of my head before settling down beside me.

“Hi,” I greeted him.

“Hello, honey. How are you feeling–”

His words were cut off when we heard the angry voice of my sister, Amelia.

“Stop it, Henry, unless you want me to cut off everything I can get my hands on!” she bellowed at her husband, before plopping down on the seat next to him.

I winced in embarrassment for her. After all, we had guests present. Henry scratched his head awkwardly and sat beside her.

“I don’t know why, but she’s been irritated with me all day,” he confessed with a helpless shrug.

Amelia glared at him, causing Henry to glance at me and mouth, “See?”

“What’s all this fuss about?” I rolled my eyes in annoyance at the sound of Remi’s voice.

Masha followed behind her. As was her wont, her eyes were glued to her phone, had she not brought her laptop.

“This man here, ugh! I want to bury him,” my sister vented her frustrations.

Henry, looking bewildered, came to his own defense. “I haven’t done anything, she’s just like this.”

“Couples,” Remi scoffed, rolling her eyes in typical fashion.

The two of them then sat next to Odessa, who seemed to have already fallen asleep. In an instant, we were all struck dumb as the silence befell us, our attention diverted towards the entrance as an unfamiliar voice broke through the room. It belonged to a woman in her twenties, accompanied by a boy who looked slightly younger, maybe around fifteen.

When our eyes met, I couldn’t see any emotions but recognition. I furrowed my brows, silently trying to decipher the connection.

Did I know them? Or perhaps they knew me?

Similar to Samael, the sense of familiarity was overpowering.

“Amara, I feel weak,” Ruby said to me.

“Why?” I asked, equally puzzled.

“I don’t know, but I think it’s because of their presence,” she admitted, her confusion mirroring my own.

Ruby had been complaining about feeling weak when I was with Samael, but it had always been manageable. But now, why did these two newcomers also make my inner wolf weak?
