Chapter 258 Rolled Parchment
Chapter 258 Rolled Parchment
The bone blade stopped a fraction of an inch from my throat.
Nymeria Duskbane held the curved weapon steady. Her violet eyes burned with the arrogant fire of the deep earth. She expected me to flinch. She expected a exhausted girl broken by the cold of the mountain.
I did not move. The freezing wind died against the heat dome protecting my skin.
I reached up. My bare fingers clamped around the jagged edge of her bone blade.
"You rule the deep earth," I said. My voice carried the heavy, crushing weight of the four crowns. "But you stand on my mountain."
I squeezed my hand. The celestial light flared in my palm. The ancient bone shattered into white dust.
I did not draw a weapon. I pushed the golden Alpha spark outward. I used raw, unfiltered dominance. The invisible weight hit the rebel leader like a falling boulder. Nymeria gasped. Her knees hit the black rock. Her dark steel armor scraped against the stone.
"The basement belongs to the house," I told her. I looked down at her white hair. "I own the house. Return to the dark, or I will collapse the tunnels and bury your people forever."
Nymeria stared at the white dust falling from my fingers. She bowed her head, pressing her forehead against the freezing stone. She surrendered.
The threat ended before it began.
Three weeks passed.
The gray winter clouds broke over the capital. The spring sun warmed the stone courtyards of the restored Citadel. The demon legions rebuilt the shattered towers using their chaotic fire to melt the stone back into place. The beast clans repaired the massive iron gates, forging new hinges with raw strength. The factions obeyed the law. The war faded into the dirt.
I sat on the white marble throne. The Black Crown rested on my dark hair.
The great hall hummed with noise. Hundreds of nobles, warlords, and commanders packed the floor. They wore their finest silks and leathers. They whispered behind their hands, casting nervous glances toward the dais.
The four executioners stood on the wide steps below my seat.
They wore tailored black tunics and dark leather trousers. They lacked their immortal sparks. They possessed mortal heartbeats. But they stood like apex predators guarding a den.
Ignatius watched the room, his rust-red eyes calculating the angle of every hidden dagger. Vasilis kept his broad shoulders squared, acting as a living shield of muscle and scar tissue. Orson offered a sharp, arrogant grin to the nervous crowd. Isidore rested his calloused hands on the pommel of his dull celestial sword, a silent statue of devotion.
Theron Nightvale stepped out of the crowd.
The vampire noble wore a pristine black coat. His missing left hand remained a stump, wrapped in dark silk. He held a thick parchment scroll in his right hand.
"Queen Victoria," Theron began. His smooth voice carried across the silent room. "The realm enjoys the new peace. The borders hold. The cities rebuild. We thank the Black Crown."
"Get to the point, Theron," I commanded.
Theron unrolled the scroll. "The factions require a guarantee. Peace is fragile. It shatters without a strong foundation. You are a human woman holding divine magic. The combination is unprecedented. The realm needs stability. The realm needs a lineage."
Cassara Moonveil stepped up beside the vampire. The werewolf priestess wore a clean white tunic. The cut on her jaw left a pink, raised scar.
"The packs respect a mated Alpha," Cassara added. "A solitary ruler invites challengers. Your blood must continue. You must forge a dynasty. You need an heir."
I leaned back against the cold marble. "You want me to take a husband."
"We demand it," Lucivar Drakhar shouted from the front row.
The demon prince dragged his iron chain across the stone floor. He glared up at the dais. "The throne requires a King to stand beside the Queen. A King with raw power."
Lucivar pointed a gray finger at the four men standing below me.
"These men served their purpose," Lucivar spat. "But they are empty shells. They traded their eternity for your crown. They are mortal dirt. They bleed. They die. A God-Queen cannot mate with fragile humans. You need an immortal consort."
A tense murmur rippled through the hall.
Vasilis let out a low, rumbling growl. The sound echoed his feral past. He took a heavy step down the stairs toward the demon prince.
I raised my right hand.
Vasilis stopped. He respected the command, but his amber eyes burned with lethal rage. The muscles in his thick neck corded tight.
Ignatius did not growl. The tactician kept his face smooth, but his rust-red eyes tracked Lucivar’s throat, plotting a dozen silent ways to rip it open.
"We compiled a list," Theron stated. He read from the scroll. "Darian Bloodthorne, Lord of the Eastern Night Court. Zepharion Valek, Commander of the High Clouds. Rhaegar Stormbane, Warlord of the Southern Packs."
Theron rolled the scroll tight. He looked up at my face.
"Strong men," Theron promised. "Immortal men. Choose one, Queen Victoria. Secure the throne. Give us an heir."
