Chapter Fifty Three

Chapter Fifty Three
Kian's POV:

"What's up, man. What's going down?" I glanced and saw Jace wriggling his brows as he popped a sweet in his mouth.

"Nothing much." I responded with out a single strength in my body and continued eating my breakfast. Jace dishes his food, but I couldn't help but notice that he was staring at me in some kind of way.

“Is there something on my face?” I asked. He looked taken aback, like he was just snapped out of his thoughts. “Why are you staring at me like that? It's fucking creepy.” I grumbled, taking a spoonful into my mouth and chewing on it slowly with my gaze on him keenly.

He raised his hands in the air. “No need to get all crappy about it. I just noticed that you're unusually quiet today and your mood is off the chart.”

I was about to respond when Damon walked in. This person that fueled my anger that I had managed to put off earlier. I tried not to think much about it, but it kept replaying over and over in my head again.

I heard his conversation with Jhelani—not by choice though. I wanted to talk to her, not realizing that Damon beat me to it and everything he said made me wonder if he's with us like he claimed or against us. He clearly wants her to himself alone. Greedy asshole.

“Good morning,” he greeted, his voice barely audible. I responded with a slight nod, while he went ahead and prepared his breakfast.

Jhelani walked in, looking half asleep, her green eyes looking so cute at the moment. “Good morning, guys” she greeted, yawning. I didn't realize when my lips curled a bit at the side. Her voice sounded sleepy. And—adorable.

I immediately jolted out of where I sat and went to her, putting my hands around her shoulders. “Good morning, Pretty head. You look like you could use a steamy hot morning coffee, want me to whip one real quick?” I suggested.

She nodded. “Yes, please. That would be amazing and so sweet of you.” she smiled widely. I pat her head a few times.

"You're such a sleepyhead, Lani." I chuckled while shaking my head. Amused by her behavior. She hadn't changed one bit.

I dashed into the kitchen and prepared a cup of coffee for her. I made it in the way I knew she liked. Once I was done, I handed it back to her and she muttered a thank you.

Damon swooped in and handed her a plate but there were a lot of veggies in it which made her groan. “What am I? A fucking grandma with diabetes? You know I hate vegetables, Damon.' she grumbled, pouting her lips.

Jace chuckled at her statement and the way Damon's face fell immediately.

That made me feel very confident. I dished out a meal that I had prepared specially for her.

Her eyes lit up at the sight. “Omg! You made toasts just for me? Geez, I don't remember when I had one, Kian. Thank you!” she squealed.

“Only the best for my Jhelani.” I smirked, my heart feeling full. Although low-key, I felt my ego rising. She finally rejected something from Damon.

He reached across the table and stole a piece of toast from Jhelani’s plate. “You sure you want all that? Might need to leave some for the rest of us,” Jace teased.

Jhelani glared at him, trying to look annoyed, but a small laugh slipped out. “Touch my food again and I’ll stab your hand with a fork,” she warned.

Jace chuckled and leaned back in his chair. “There’s the fire I missed. You’ve been too quiet lately."

The sound of her laughter filled the room, soft but warm, and I couldn’t stop myself from smiling too. Her laughter, her smile, whatever she feels always had a way of leaving an effect on me. I automatically feel whatever she's feeling.

But when I glanced across the table, I noticed Damon’s hands tightening into fists, his jaw locked. He tried to hide it, but I saw it. The tension in his shoulders, the way his fork dug a little too deep into his food.

I cleared my throat and tried to ease the thick air. “Relax, man. It's just food. Not a big deal, you know.”

“I didn’t say anything,” Damon muttered, but his tone said otherwise.

Jhelani’s smile faded a little, and that pissed me off even more. It wasn’t just Damon. It was me too. Every time she looked at one of us, I felt that same heat rising in my chest. I hated it. I hated how much control she had over us without even trying.

“Can we just eat in peace?” Jhelani said quietly, staring down at her plate.

No one responded. The rest of breakfast went by in awkward silence. Damon wouldn’t look at Jace. Jace kept drumming his fingers on the table like he didn't feel the tension, sucking on his strawberry lollipop.

I was stuck in the middle, pretending to be calm when all I wanted was to drag her out of here and keep her away from both of them. To have her locked in a basement where only I have access to. Where no fucking wolf would dare step a foot in. Just me alone would be with her, singing her sweet songs, feeding her the meals I personally prepared with my hands and if she let me ... I'd unleash every fucking kink I've always dreamt of doing to her in my head. Screwing her tight pink hole until her legs were left useless and then rubbing my cum all over her pretty face like a sunscreen. She'd look so damn beautiful on her knees, taking it all in like the good little girl she was.

When we were done, she got up, muttered something about fresh air, and walked out into the garden. I waited a few minutes before following her. She was sitting on the stone bench near the rose bushes at the Pack house...where we also call the Safehouse sometimes.

“Mind if I sit?” I asked.

She looked up and nodded slightly. “Sure.”

I sat beside her, leaving a small space between us. For a while, we just sat there, not saying anything. Just the wind speaking. Then she sighed.

"I fear that you guys are going to tear each other apart because of me,” she said softly. “Sometimes I feel like a burden.”

I turned to look at her. “You’re not a burden, Jhelani. Don’t ever say that.”

She laughed a little, but it wasn’t a happy laugh. “Then what am I? Maybe I am indeed a curse and I just have to accept it. Because it feels like everything fell apart the moment I came into your lives.”

I shook my head. “No. Things were already falling apart. You just… made us see it. You made me see what we were missing.”

She frowned a little, her eyes searching mine. “What were you missing?”

I hesitated, but then I told her the truth. “Finally feeling alive and not feeling like some dead corpse doing the human daily stuffs because the moment you left, you took our hearts with you. Before you returned, everything felt like a routine. Just duty, rules, excessive smoking, extreme racing and silence that surrounded us when we're alone. You brought color back into our lives the night we met you at the club with your friends. I was so thankful to the moon goddess for bringing you back to us again. Although I was low-key cursing her for the complications and pains she caused us.” I muttered the last part.

Her cheeks turned pink, and she looked away. “You’re saying that just to make me feel better.”

“I’m not,” I said quietly. “It’s the truth.”

She smiled a little and brushed her red hair behind her ear, shit I felt my cock throb the moment I spot those little lovely butterfly tattoos behind her ear. They made her look extra sexy. I could feel the urge to reach out and touch her, to pull her closer, to kiss her. But I stopped myself.

“I should go,” she said after a while.

I nodded. “Yeah. Probably a good idea. Before I do something i'd be regretting soon.”

"Did you say something?"

"Uh? No, I didn't. I just thought it would be good idea." I chuckled, itching the back of my head.

She stood up and looked at me. “Thank you, Kian.”

“For what?”

“For not making things harder than it already is."

My lips drew up to my eyes. "Sure."

When she walked away, I stayed there for a long time, staring at the spot where she stood.

Jace’s voice echoed from the living room, loud and angry. I could hear it despite the distance due to my sharp wolf sense. We have a very heightened sense of hearing and a lot of other stuffs that comes with the packaged benefits of being an Alpha wolf.

Damon shouted something back. I sped off, appearing before the scene and saw Jace storming out, slamming the door behind him.

That's so unlike him. What did Damon fucking do this time?

“Let him go,” Damon said under his breath, pacing like a caged wolf.

I looked toward Jhelani’s closed door down the hall. My chest felt tight. She must’ve heard all of it. I wanted to go to her, to make sure she was okay, but part of me knew it would only make things worse.

“If we keep fighting like this,” I whispered to myself, “someone’s going to get hurt.”
