MP Chapter 2
“Lita, where are you?” Donny demanded.
Lita sighed. All the Davenports were like this. Demanding, no nonsense. The last time the three brothers were this bad was six months ago when everyone was certain Donovan was a traitor but pulled Alpha Securities into the investigation and Kacey Matthews into it as well. Donovan had done everything on purpose to have to pull Kacey into it. Lita thought for certain Kyle, the middle brother, was going to explode once Kacey had started being threatened. “I just left my sister’s, we had to switch cars, she’s taking care of some things on mine.”
“Where is that?”
“On Carnation, Donny.” She hated how easily she gave into the man and when he disappeared six months ago she almost lost herself. She had never felt so worried about a man in her life. It seemed everyone at the agency knew how she felt, except Donovan Davenport. Stubborn man.
“Okay, pull into the little twenty-four-hour diner there, Jay’s, I’ll be there in five, and whatever you do you stay in that car until I get there.” Donny hung up after the order he gave.
Lita huffed, she wasn’t sure if he was angry or worried. To her dismay she just did what she was told to do. She had heard things over the years while working at AS, the Davenport brothers were a different breed. She had heard they were into discipline, making sure their women were well behaved, followed orders, but she hadn’t seen much proof of the rumors. Even with the rumors her interest in Donovan wasn’t curved.
She pulled into Jay’s Diner slowly and parked. All she could do was wait for now.

Donovan wasn’t angry at Lita. He was worried about her. He knew she had put so much into the case. It meant a lot to her, and she lost the suspects. She was beating herself up. He wanted to be there for her. No matter what everyone else thought about his brothers and his ways, he cared about Lita a lot and wanted her.
Wanted her for years, he just didn’t know how to introduce his ways of life to her. She was serious, profoundly serious and he wasn’t sure as serious as she was she would put up with his weird obsession. Granted Kacey gave into his second oldest brother, Kyle, but it took some hard work to even let their second in command, Shawn, Kacey’s brother, to let the two be together.
Donovan scoffed to himself, at least he didn’t have that brick wall to get around. All he had to get around was Lita herself. He finished getting dressed, grabbed his keys, and rushed to his SUV. She was an excellent agent, but there were things he’d want to be different. One thing would be she wouldn’t be dangerous psychos at three am.
He was glad he was only a few blocks over from Jay’s Diner and rushed over. He saw the gray Corolla and had to assume it was Lita, there weren’t any other cars in the lot. He pulled up beside it and glanced in, he could make out a form with a baseball cap on. Before he could get out, the individual got out and opened his passenger door. A wave of relief flew over him as Lita slid into his SUV. “You’re okay, right?”
“Yeah,” Lita sighed. “Just mad at myself, I’m better that this, I shouldn’t have lost them, Donny, Shawn and Davis are going to be so angry, that’s not including Cunningham.”
Donny sighed, running a hand over his face. His oldest brother, Davis, and Shawn Tammeron, the lead agents on their team, were going to be difficult. Donny wasn’t sure about Cunningham, the director of Alpha Securities. “I’ll handle Shawn and Davis, I’ll let them handle Cunningham, we’re partly to blame, we shouldn’t have been letting you do this on your own, it just wasn’t going to work.”
He reached out and gripped Lita’s hand. “I’m sorry, Lita.”
Lita squeezed his hand tightly. “It’s okay, Donny, just have to start over, if anyone can find out where they disappeared to its Kacey.”
“Yeah, she’s too smart for her own good,” he slowly reached out with his other hand and took the hat off Lita. “That’s better.” He whispered.
Her brown gaze collided with his cobalt blue one. He could tell her breath hitched a little, but he ran his fingers through her hair untwisting it better. He smiled slightly at her as her gaze widened more.
What he wouldn’t give to be in her life full time, be the one to take care of her, hold her on chilly nights like tonight. “Why don’t we get you home? Unless you’re hungry.”
\~~~
Lita’s gaze flicked to the diner. Oh, she was hungry all right, but not for food. She didn’t know why she called Donny, she knew what he did to her, frustrated her to no end and never did anything about it. “Yeah, let’s get something to eat, it’ll soak up the caffeine I had at my sister’s.”
Before she could move Donny was out of the SUV and on her side, opening the door for her. Tingles erupted through her. It was nice to be treated like a woman. It had been a while. She couldn’t make relationships last since she was always on the graveyard shift most of the time to do the surveillance.
As Donny held out his hand to her, she took it, letting him help her out of the SUV. She loved how tall the man was, he was at least six-one, not much different from her five-nine, but she wasn’t sure if he felt the same way.
They headed into the diner and headed to a booth. Lita was surprised when Donny pulled her in after him and they sat so close together that she would only have to move a fraction of an inch and their legs would be pressed together.
A waitress made her way up to them, handing them each a menu. “What can I get you to drink?”
Lita answered a water, while Donny ordered a coffee. The waitress walked away to get their drinks while they poured over the menu trying to decide what sounded good to eat. Lita to get a grilled cheese, and a side of fries. Once the waitress came back and she placed her order she couldn’t help but let her gaze flick to Donny. He had a smile pasted on then ordered the same thing as she did.
