Chapter 79 Is my sister the Monster?
Chapter 79 Is my sister the Monster?
Rosia's POV
"After we were done with our duties I didn't see or talk to her again, I only heard that she's dead this morning, your Majesties." The last of the servants gathered as witnesses say. None of them has anything relevant that can help us find the murderer of the poor servant.
"Did she have a beautiful cleavage?" I question out of curiosity. Both my mates and the servants raise their eyebrows in utter astonishment. It might seem like a weird, almost insensitive question, but what if my mother is right that there is a beauty eating monster.
"She... she did, Your Highness," one of the older maids tells. "Nina was always boastful of her full bosom. The male guests always complimented her whenever we served food at the parties together."
Silas bows and leads the servants out of the room.
"You really believe that there is a monster preying only on beautiful women?" Aerius questions, his tone full of disbelief.
"It's hard not to believe it when I'm looking at the dead body of a beautiful servant," I counter, looking between my mates. "Tell me, what kind of an animal kills only to consume specific parts of the body?"
"It's probably one of her many admirers, or perhaps a jealous fellow servant," Aerion suggests.
"You yourselves just said it would have to be an unimaginably big wolf, and you also noted it didn't smell like one," I point out. I honestly don't want to believe the ridiculous things my mother said, but there is too much evidence pointing toward it. I am worried for my family and for my sister, mostly. Every single part of Rhea is flawlessly beautiful. If there is a monster hunting for beautiful parts, it would be hitting a jackpot with her.
"If what your mother said is true, then your sister must also know about it," Aeries says. "She lived with your mother all this time. She might be able to tell us in detail. Maybe it will be more believable when it comes from two people."
"You're right. My sister might know more. I'll go get her," I say, immediately getting up from my seat. Aside from asking questions, I need to comfort her and promise to protect her from whatever is killing people.
Outside servants are standing in little groups, discussing what had happened while pretending to do their work. Oddly, they seem more curious than they are scared. I even overhear a few of them making jokes, teasing each other about who is the prettiest, saying the prettiest of them will be next. I personaly hope there won't be a next one.
Having been in my thoughts I push the doors of my sister's chambers open and walk straight in without knocking.
I freeze on the threshold after seeing Rhea standing in front of the massive gilded mirror, her gown lowered to her waist. Her back is arched and her hands cup her breast as she studies them from all angles.
I mindlessly let go of the door and it slams loudly. Rhea gasps, spinning around. Absolute shock appears on her face at the sight of me. But then disappears just as quickly, getting replaced by a perfectly relaxed, nonchalant smile.
"Oh! sister," she breaths, pulling the thick fabric of her dress upward to cover herself. "You startled me. I was just... inspecting the tailoring of these royal clothes. The fabrics here are so much heavier than what I'm used to."
A sudden, very unpleasant suspicion grows in me. When Rhea had arrived just a day ago, her breasts had seemed small under her dress. But now they seem to be battling against the seams of the gown, which had been meticulously tailored specifically to her exact measurements. Her breast seems to have grown overnight.
"Is... is everything alright, Sister?" Rhea asks, stepping away from the mirror. "You're staring at me so strangely."
I shake my head at my ridiculous thoughts. Rhea's just a small innocent girl in an unfortunate situation.
"Your chest looks remarkably fuller. I will have bigger dresses made for you." I say and she smiles.
"The kings also want to speak with you," I say.
Rhea’s perfect lips part, "The kings? I'm I in trouble? Did I do something wrong?"
Seeing her look so innocent and terrified almost makes me feel guilty for the dark thoughts I just had.
"No, you're not in trouble, I promise," I reassure her softly. "They just have some questions about Alpha Nolan's pack. Mother mentioned some horrible things happening there before you left...about beautiful women disappearing. The Kings think you might have seen or heard something that could help them understand the problem we're having here."
Rhea let out a long sigh of relief, "Oh, thank goodness. I was so scared."
"Just put your shoes on and come down to the throne room with me, okay?"
"Of course. I’ll tell the gorgeous Kings everything they want to know."
