Chapter 101: domino effect
Harper’s pov
I was also getting ready because the whole reason I came here is leaving as well.
Grace got back her humanity and I am so happy.
I know that I am not the one who helped her with that, but I am just happy that she did.
I wonder what happened in that cave or what is even happening here.
There was a knock on the door and Derek came in without knocking.
Behind him was Grace who was looking at him with a frown.
“I don’t understand why you want me to tell him, this had nothing to do with him” she said to him.
“well for starters why don’t you want to tell him? He is your mate” Derek said looking at me.
I looked at Grace, her eyes landed on me, and she seemed so sad.
She cried herself to sleep last night and I want to know why.
I know that I promised her that I would wait for her, but I still want to know.
I want to know what happened and what hurt her so much.
“tell him Grace, let him decide for himself. Its your position to decide what he wants or deserves” Derek said and left.
He is different as well;
he has seemed to have changed and I wondered why.
When he saw me here he didn’t freak out or wasn’t angry but was happy.
As if he was happy that he isn’t the only one who is here for Grace.
“please sit down, there is so much to tell you.Derek Is right, you should decide after you know the truth” she said with a gentle voice.
How didn’t I see it?
all that time how didn’t I see the pain that is so clear on her face?
Is it because in the past few months I have experienced some kind of pain?
Is it because I have been in so much pain that now I can see it?
I heard people say that you never notice something unless you know about it.
Its like when you buy a blue car.
It will look like suddenly everyone around you has a blue car as well.
once you see it and know it then you become aware of it and notice things.
I was pretty sheltered all my life and I never really knew pain.
When Hendricks had me all I could think about, or feel was this anger inside me.
it wasn’t pain but also a little sadness that I couldn’t see the people I love and that they must have been worried about me.
from what Grace told me she didn’t have that;
she didn’t have the consolation that someone was waiting for her.
All that time she was alone even when she wasn’t alone at all.
When she disappeared I felt that loneliness, that loneliness that only one person can fill.
She has been a perfect puzzle peace that could get rid of that loneliness.
She had told me about her mother a little and how her mother didn’t have her humanity as well.
now she started telling me things that I had no idea about.
“telling this story might make me break, but I will tell it anyways” she said.
When she was done I couldn’t believe it at all.
All that information, all that time she has been looking for answers.
So that is what her and Hendricks bonded over?
Their trauma bond is that they both lost their parents in unfair ways.
All this time she has been helping him even after all he did to her.
She helped him make up with his father and also found him answers.
She didn’t have answers to her own questions, but she found answers to his.
How is it that she could forgive him so easy?
And Hendricks is Alpha Jones’s son?
I mean that does make sense because his oldest son disappeared and a few years later the rouge King appeared.
Plus, I have fought him, he is really power that it felt like I was fighting an equal and I am an Alpha Prince.
That man could stand with me head to head without any fear and is a great warrior.
Do I still hate him for what he did to Grace?
Hell yes, and also I find what he did to me unforgivable.
Why should I be paying for my father’s sins?
And so, for Hendricks I guess now that I know his story I respect him on some level.
I guess I also pity him as well, the fact that he had such a messed up childhood makes me feel guilty.
It is my parents fault, and they will answer for that.
I will find answers to why they did what they did.
All this time, all this time we all thought that Hendricks was the monster when all this time he was nothing but a prisoner of fate.
He and Grace have been trapped in a prison that the elders created.
And Grace, wow, Grace is Joseph’s daughter?
I mean now that I think of it I guess you could say it makes sense.
He did mention that he found himself caring about her for some reason.
That he felt this bond and connection towards her that he couldn’t describe or understand.
He said that it felt almost as if she was his daughter, and he just wants to see her happy.
Parents huh?
He didn’t even know all that, but he felt it to certain level that she is his blood.
Not to forget all the sacrifices that Grace’s mother took so her daughter could live.
That is why she didn’t want to feel anything.
That is why she got rid of her humanity, the constant feeling that she doesn’t deserve to be loved because her mother did.
So, when she realized how much her mother loved her she had nothing to fear.
So, the spell works on fear and once you are no longer afraid it automatically vanishes.
“I have no words to excuse what my parents did and the hand they had to play in this.
Because of them Hendricks became the person he is and killed your mother” I said, and she just shrugged.
“this is what we would call the domino effect, one person set everything in motion.
She is the one that sent countless of lives crumbling down just to get what she wanted.
So don’t apologise” she said with a smile.
I looked at her and she wasn’t her old self, she wasn’t the Grace I knew back then.
This one seemed angrier but weirdly also even free.
There was this light in her eyes, she has become a different person after everything.
I like the new her, I think that I will always like whoever Grace turns into.
I think it’s because I know that whoever she becomes she will still be very kind-hearted.
This is the same person who beat the darkest of magic and still managed to care and be kind.
So, I know that no matter what happens Grace will always be the gentle and kind person she always has been.
Just that now she doesn’t have all that pain buried inside and seems happier.
I just wish that her life wasn’t the way it was.
I just wish she didn’t have to go through all that she went through.
I wish that her parents were together, and she grew up in a loving family like I did.
That she had siblings and grew up In a loving family.
But she didn’t have that, so I am glad that she somehow found her own consolation.
That she likes some of the answers she found to all the questions she had.
What happened now was what I would call the best case scenario.
“so, what are you going to do now?” I asked her.
“Hendrick and I have a plan, to deal with everyone with one blow.
Since what she did to us is the same as the domino effect then we will do the same.
We will fight fire with fire, with one blow we will send all their lives crumbling” she said.
“are my parents on that list?” I asked her and she shook her head.
“not on mine but talk to Hendricks and your father as well… that is all I can say on that” she said, and I nodded.
I also want to know why they would do something like that.
Why listen to a woman who is clearly ruthless?
Why go as far as killing an innocent woman for absolutely no reason that makes sense?
She came there to show her alliance and to show them that she means no harm and she got paid with death.
I will deal with my parents and will talk to Hendricks about it and find some kind of a middle ground.
“will you forgive him? Even after everything he did will you forgive him?” I asked her.
I didn’t need to explain I was talking about because she got it.
“I have forgiven him; in my own way I have forgiven him for everything. Not that I will go back running into his arms, but he is no longer my purpose” she answered, and I nodded.
He was once her purpose?
“now what is your purpose, you told me once that to live without one is the same as dying” I said, and she nodded.
She got up from her chair and sat on my lap.
“you are my new purpose, I know I am still kind of screwed up right now… so wait for me, wait for me while I try to figure everything out. Can you do that?” she asked me, and I nodded.
I think my head would have probably fell off at how fast and how many times I nodded.
Grace smiled, that beautiful smile is something I will always have engraved in my mind.
There was a knock on the door and Derek came in without waiting for an answer.
“there is something you need to hear Grace” he said.
He looked at our position and didn’t say anything even though he seemed to be hurting.
So, his feelings for her are truly genuine, he is the one that pushed her towards me.
he brought her here so we could talk even though he has feelings for her.
He didn’t mind letting her go if it meant that she was happy.
“Cara, she wants you to be jailed for ‘breaking into their sacred room’” he said to her.
Grace looked at him and didn’t react, I think that somehow she got a few habits that she had when she didn’t have her humanity.
She would usually sit for some time and take in what you are telling her.
I see that she is still doing that even now.
“let her, for no,w you shouldn’t say anything about me being Joseph’s daughter. This would be really perfect actually” she said with a smirk.
What would be perfect?
