Opportunities
Lila
I walked into the office, with a small smile on my face. The weekend was okay, with the kids being well rested. I pressed my phone to my ear immediately.
“Oli, I haven't heard anything from you up till now. Isn't there any update on everything that's going on with the house?”
“Oh, darling. I'm sorry,” she whispered. I could hear the paperwork around her, and I knew that she was busy. I felt slightly guilty for bothering her with my own issues as well.
“It's okay. But I'm just tired if keeping the kids at the hotel. They haven't even been at school. I know that they're enjoying each other's company, but they need to learn.”
She sighed. “Of course, Lila. I'll send you the documents. You can go check the house in two days. The agent has just been wasting a lot of time.”
I smiled. “It's okay. I'll be expecting it.” I was about to hang up when I heard her voice.
“Lila?” She called out. “I'm sorry for not being able to make it to you event.”
“It's okay, Oli. I'm not mad at you. I can't even be mad at you.”
She exhaled slowly. “Alright then. Thank you so much.”
“I'll call you soon.”
I slipped the phone back into my bag, and Hannah was at my side almost immediately. “The results from the launch have been pretty good,” she said, and I grinned.
“What are the stats?” I asked.
“A 105% rise in sales. Mr. Lucien has already sent flowers. So has Mr. Dante. The news stations are buzzing with information about the new brand.”
I was fully grinning by the time I got my office. I spotted the two flower bouquets on the table. One was rose, and the other was of daffodils.
I immediately knew who brought which. “Put them in vases,” I said immediately, and Hannah nodded, as she got to work.
I was going through the stats, confirming everything that Hannah said. People were always having bad beginnings in their business. But there I was, already celebrating wins.
The door was flung open, and Lily walked in with her face practically turning red. “What the fuck is this?” She asked, as she threw her phone on the table, practically pushing the screen to my face.
“What is it?” I asked, with my eyes fixed on her. I didn't even look down at her phone screen.
“What were you doing out with Lucien? Two days in a row. Don't you know that the media will capture such a thing?”
A lazy smile crept to my lips. “As far as I remember, you were the one going out with him around the staged media.”
“That doesn't match up to the fact that the both of you were in a park, looking all lazy and cozy.”
I looked down at the pictures immediately. I exhaled slowly when I saw that the kids were not included in the picture frame.
“It's really not my fault that you can't keep your husband to yourself, Lily. The companies have been merged, and you've finally gotten what you want."
She didn't know about the kids. I couldn't stop thinking about that fact.
“Then stay the fuck away from him.”
“Ask him to move on without me.” I spat. “It's sad you aren't perfect enough for him.”
She took a step back, slowly taking her phone from the table again. I loved when she went silent.
I exhaled slowly. “Now, tell me. What are you here for?”
She scrolled through her phone again, bringing out a certain flyer. She pushed the phone to me again. “I sw this certain competition. I wanted to ask if we can apply for it. Since our company just launched, I thought it would be best.”
The way she was calling it ours. Was more than weird. But as I went through the flyer, I knew that it would be the best for the company. I showed it to Hannah, and she nodded, beaming.
“Fine,” I said, crossing my hands in front of my chest as I smirked. “Apply for the company. The first meeting for it begins on Monday.”
She blinked twice, like she didn't believe that I would agree for her own idea. Or that I would even be a party to it.
“Alright, Lils. I'll be here for the meeting. I hope we can work perfectly together.”
I grunted, and she picked her shiny bag as she headed out of the office.
“Are you comfortable working with her?” Hannah asked immediately, and I frowned as I bit my lower lip. Even I was confused about the whole thing.
The company was already merged, and I knew that she was going to keep to her words about minding her business. But then, what if she didn't? What if she was still taking offence ij Lucien paying attention to me, and showing up at my hotel room countless times.
“We should give he r a chance, shouldn't we? This is the first competition were getting into as a company. We might as well take it seriously.”
“Alright, ma'am,” Hannah said after a bit of hesitation. “Would you like me to call the creative designer again?”
“Of course. Put the whole team together again, and schedule a zoom meeting. We need to get to work.”
My eyes glanced over at the flowers that were now in vases, sitting beautifully at the corner of my office.
My phone beeped, gaining my attention immediately. A small smile came to my face at the sight of the name flashing on the screen.
It was Oli. She had already dropped the location of the place. I knew that I could have easily stayed in the place that Lucien had rented for me. But I didn't want him thinking that things were going perfectly between the two of us. Plus, I didn't want any more troubles with Lily.
Everything was working perfectly so far. I couldn't get rid of the feeling that something was going to destroy it.
But what, who and when?
