Chapter 29 PERFECT FAMILY
Chapter 29 PERFECT FAMILY
CHAPTER
Perfect Family
Lila.
After a long evening at the party, I could finally head back to my room. The only thing I wanted to do at that point was crash in my bed. I literally couldn't wait for my head to hit the pillow.
I headed straight to the room, and the maid greeted me as she left immediately. I bent down, looking over the kids as they were both sleeping. Anna had her hands in her brother's, and he seemed to hold her protectively.
“I want Daddy,” she whispered in her sleep, and I felt my throat close. I placed a small kiss on her forehead. How long was i going to be able to hide these kids from their dad? Imagine if they found out that he was the man that walked into the room not long ago.
I took off my clothes, had a quickly cold shower, put on my pyjamas, and slept on the other bed, letting the kids have their space. I was just about to close my eyes when the television that was playing in the background caught my attention.
“The internet has been buzzing after seeing Lucien Knight and his wife, Lily Knight, heading to a restaurant together…” I got up immediately, trying to see what was actually going on.
I took in the sight of Lucien walking hand in hand with Lily. They looked pretty perfect together. I felt the tears pricking my eyes, but I quickly blinked them back. I didn't want to believe that he was living double lives. Trying to win me over, and then fixing things with his wife.
My phone beeped, dragging my attention. It was a text from him.
“You looked gorgeous today. Green compliments your skin. Especially with an undone zip.” The last line made me smile, and I went back to sleep.
“You promised us ice cream!” James said excitedly as he jumped on the bed.
“Yes, mommy. You're going to keep to your promise right?”
“Of course, baby,” I whispered as I did her hair in front of the mirror. She had Lucien's hair. Dark and soft. While James had my own brown hair. Either way, they reminded me of him. A lot. They had his features. It was way too visible.
I couldn't help but wonder if he didn't feel some kind of connection towards the kids.
I stayed in with the both of them, with little fragments of the event going through my mind. Everything seemed perfect at that point.
My brand had finally been launched, and I was getting to that stage that I always wanted. But at the same time, the merge was closer to happening with every fucking second.
I took Anna and James’ hands as I led them outside. I planned on getting them ice cream as planned, and bringing them back inside. I couldn't take the risk of leaving them outside. Plus, I had a whole lot of things to plan.
Just as we stepped outside the hotel, I saw Lucien coming out of his car. I almost rolled my eyes at the sight. When would he ever get tired of trying?”
“What are you doing here?” I asked, and he looked around like he wanted to make sure that people were looking. The memory of him and Lily walking hand in hand almost stabbed my chest. I quickly cleared my throat, tipping my chin.
“I promised to come and take you out for lunch. To celebrate everything that happened yesterday, right?” He looked over at the kids who were looking at him too. He squatted down to their level. “Hello, kids.”
They ran to his open arms, and I felt my throat close up. Did he feel that he had some kind of connection with them?
He asked for their names, and he told them. Then he looked up at me.
“Were you going out with them?” He asked, and I nodded.
“I wanted to take them out for ice cream. Since I got back late.”
“How about I take you guys. And then take them to the park? It's their first time around.”
“No, thanks. We're fine on our own.”
“Please,” Anna said, holding on to thebhem of my dress. “We haven't been to the park here.”
“Fine,” I said, plastering a painful smile on my face.”
“Yayyyy!” The kids squealed, and there was a smug smile on Lucien's face as he led them to the car, helping the both of them get in. I was about to get into the back seat, when the kids shook their heads.
“You have to get into the front seat with him, mommy,” Jamie said, and I tried to smile even more. My cheeks were starting to hurt from smiling.
I got into the front seat, feeling the children's eyes on the both of us. I knew that I was in for a conversation I didn't want to have once we got back to the hotel.
Lucien placed his hands on my thighs, and I couldn't take it off. I didn't want to.
He drove into the park, and I could hear the excited screams from the backseat.
He got the perfect parking space, and I got out with him, getting the kids out.
He took them over to the swing, where the both of us took turns in swinging either James or Anna.
The kids got their ice cream. Vanilla flavor for Anna, and Chocolate for James. I got my vanilla and chocolate chips, and Lucien got Oreo flavor.
The both of us sat on the bench as we watched the kids play.
“I can't help but feel some kind of attachment to them.” He said, and I literally buried my face in my ice cream.
Hell, they are your kids.
“I feel attached to them too,” I whispered. “My friend is lucky.”
“We should have had ours too.”
“That's not a topic I want to touch,” I said, and he shook his head.”
“I'm tired of hiding how much I actually miss what we never had. I want it all. Five years with you, and our child.”
“It's too late to fix anything.”
“We can still make things right somehow,” he said, and I swallowed hard. “I'm sure that we can.”
I was about to shake my heard when something gleamed in my eyes. I looked at the kids, and then back at Lucien.
The only thing I could see at that point was a perfect family.
