Chapter 118
Felix spoke while looking at Joaquim; he seemed to be in pain. He made a slight grimace as he remembered the wound; he had even forgotten about it, but when he moved his arm, he felt pain and blood dripping. He put his arm back, responding to Felix, trying to appear strong.
“It's okay... I'll ask Zebeu to take a look later... don't worry.”
Joaquim was serious; he didn't want to show weakness, especially knowing that the wolf was much stronger than he was. The two continued talking for a few moments, and Milenna, although scared by all those men, arranged the places for everyone to sleep.
Joaquim asked some soldiers to remain on guard and decided to rest with everyone. Some of the wolves couldn't sleep and decided to take turns watching during the night, ensuring everyone's safety.
About fifteen days later…
It had been two weeks since Helton's attempted invasion; everything was very quiet, and he hadn't sent any letters. Perhaps the man had been scared off by the wolves and given up on his kidnapping plan. The wounded wolf was almost fully recovered. Felix and Joaquim were already devising a plan to finally dethrone Helton and Sirio. They would go to the men's castle and infiltrate, launching an attack from the inside out, making it impossible for the Lords to escape.
Felix already missed his wife; he had been away from home for a long time. However, he had to resolve this once and for all; otherwise, his trip there would be in vain. Joaquim joined the wolves; they prepared the carriage to leave. The Lord had removed his noble clothes and now wore only common attire with a blanket. They all hid their swords under their clothes, getting ready to depart.
Joaquim gave his beloved a passionate kiss; his wound still hurt, unlike the wolves who regenerated quickly. She returned her husband's kiss, embracing him while feeling his sweet, passionate kisses.
“Take care... come back to me in one piece…”
Lucinda said, her usual humor present. Now that her brother-in-law was helping in the battle, she was less worried, especially knowing that he and his companions were ferocious beasts.
‘I'll try, my love…”
Joaquim replied with another kiss.
“Zebeu! Take everyone inside; if there's any sign of danger, lock yourselves in until we return!”
Joaquim said seriously to the healer, who nodded, affirming that he would do everything to protect everyone there. Before Joaquim left with the others, he caressed his wife's belly, smiling at her.
The group headed towards Sirio's castle; they knew it would be filled with soldiers, but they were deadly. Even a large army wouldn't be able to defeat them.
On the way, Joaquim talked with Felix; they had more in common than they had imagined.
“Felix... I'm surprised by all of you... I never imagined you were so kind... I thought you were like, brainless, demon assassins…”
Joaquim joked; even his humor had returned to normal. Felix laughed; he knew that humans always saw them that way. He didn't take it personally; that comment wouldn't upset him. He crossed his arms, responding to the human.
“You know, it's not that we aren't demon assassins... we might be, but we're also kind... just like you guys are.”
The two talked and laughed together; a great friendship was born there. Felix felt happy to get along with Joaquim; he was nice, and different from other humans. Not all humans were bad and hated wolves; Joaquim did not see the wolves as a threat, which allowed the two to be more than allies in the future—great friends. But the wolf still had reservations; he had to be sure first.
When they approached the castle, the atmosphere had become more tense. Felix wasn't sure about Joaquim's plan to invade without being seen, but he trusted the man; he needed to trust him.
"I have a maid in this castle... she has been helping me with information for a while. I feel bad for asking her to help us again, but it's the only option..."
The wolf heard movement nearby; he knew there were soldiers on patrol. They needed to neutralize those men quickly, without setting off the alarm.
With a signal, Félix instructed his men to stealthily approach the guards, and they did, killing the men swiftly without them even knowing what was happening.
After the area was clear, they approached the entrance at the back of the castle, where the servants usually stayed.
Joaquim went first; the door was open. He knew Dirce had followed his instructions; after all, the sleepless nights he spent were also part of the internal investigation and exchanges of letters with his infiltrated maid.
"Very well, Dirce..."
Joaquim whispered to himself. He didn't know how to thank the woman; she was risking her life to help him.
Everyone entered the castle slowly; everything was going perfectly, just as Joaquim had planned all along. The sleepless nights were paying off; now, he just needed to reach his brother and father to settle that war once and for all.
