Chapter 201 Oxygen!
Chapter 201 Oxygen!
LAYLA
I watched as Sebastian held Diana, as she struggled between him, and the building that was collapsing in front of us.
I covered my mouth to mute my screen, I didn't want to startle Ellie from her rest. I can't believe any of this is happening.
This has to be more than some rivalry for Peter to risk the lives of people in this hospital just to manipulate evidence against Sebastian.
And because of that I might just have lost my brother. The one I just found, and haven't entirely bonded with.
“Leon, Leon, come in,” Sebastian tried calling out through their connected bluetooth.
The look he gave me let me know that there was no response from Leon.
Which means only one thing.
“No!” The sound of Diana's scream raged my ears, and my mind. I let go of Ellie's hand, and got out of the ambulance.
I'm both a mother and a best friend today, because both Ellie and Diana need me.
They have both lost someone they haven't had time to know well, just like me.
But I can mourn my loss later, I need to be with Diana now. Just like the way she has been with me.
With shaking hands I held her shoulder, taking her away from Sebastian.
“Go be with Eleanor,” I said to him, as Dee crashed on my body.
Sebastian, and one of the operatives Leon had stationed with us held me as I staggered a little.
“I'm fine. I got her,” I said, and they both left me. “Go, keep our daughter company.”
Sebastian's eyes widened a bit, and he smiled at me. That was the first time I had fully acknowledged Ellie has our daughter.
And if the circumstances we were in were different he would have hugged me, or kissed me.
I don't know which I want more.
“It's going to be okay, Dee,” I said, as we were alone together. But not entirely, there were firefighters, cops, and so many other people around us.
But in their own words, and so were we.
“No, it's not,” she muttered. I was still holding, and hugging her. She's still shaking.
“I told him I didn't want anything to do with him,” she cries. “I told him to fuck off!”
She yelled, holding me tightly. I push the pain away because I know she needs it.
“I can't believe I won't get to tell him how I really feel….I can't believe,”
“Shhh…,” I cut her off. “He knows how you feel, darling,” I caress her hair.
She pulls away from the hug, and sighs as she wipes her tears.
“What do you mean?” She asked, and I inhaled deeply.
I promised Leon I wouldn't tell her. But seeing as he is no longer…..I can't even bear to think of the word.
“You told him?” She asked, and I looked up at her.
“He was miserable after you shut him off, Dee,” I said to her. “I wasn't going to until Sebastian asked me to help because he hasn't seen Leon that way the entire time he knows Leon. You quite frankly messed him up.”
“That wasn't your truth to tell,” she fired at me.
“Maybe not,” I sighed. “But at least you know that he knew. He knew you cared about him, but was just scared because you didn't want to hurt him or disappoint him.
“I didn't….” The words cut up in her throat, as she started crying again.
“I can't believe he's gone,” she crashes on me again, as I try to keep the tears threatening to fall on my cheeks in place.
“I know,” the tears I was trying to keep at bay, fell down my cheeks and I joined her in crying.
I don't know how long we stood there, crying in each other's arms when I heard a static coming from a radio close by.
“He–llo, hello, come in. Can anyone hear me?” I heard a voice, and my body went stiff. Diana was still crying purposely on my shoulder.
I turned to Sebastian, and his eyes widened. “No way,” he whispered.
“Yes, way,” I pulled Diana up from my shoulder. “Dee he is okay,” I said, and she looked at me confused.
“What are you talking about?” She asked.
“South wing,” his voice came up again, “three hundred steps to the entrance,” I gasped at the sound of my brother's voice, and so did Diana.
“That's my Colonel,” Sebastian said, still holding Ellie's hand, and I smiled
“Layla!” Diana screamed, hugging me as the firefighters raced towards the direction Leon had called out.
“Oh my goodness!” Dee held my arm, as the firefighters brought Leon out of the hospital, along with someone I don't recognize.
“He's okay,” I whispered, caressing her arm. “He's…..” I couldn't finish my words as she raced towards him, hugging him.
I held my face with my hands as I watched them in tears, and delight.
They both walked towards me, and I hugged my brother. “Don't do that again, you scared me,” he nodded against my shoulder.
“You need to put him in cuffs,” Leon coughed slightly.
“Oxygen!” I heard a Paramedic yell.
“He set the record room on fire,” he took the oxygen mask from the paramedic, and took a deep breath.
“I'm guessing he miscalculated how long it would take him to get out after I saw him unconscious. He was the reason I didn't come out on time.”
“So, you risked your life to save one of Peter's minions?” Diana asked him, before I could.
Leon looked at me, expecting a save from me, but all I did was fold my hands with my eyebrows raised expecting an answer.
“He'll be vital to our investigation, and now Peter doesn't have what he needs,” he said, and my eyes widened.
“You got Eleanor's file?” I asked, and he brought it out of his shirt.
“Now, no one can contest that Sebastian is her father,” he said, and I hugged him.
“He needs more check ups at the hospital,” the paramedic said.
“I'm fine, I need to get back to investigating,” he said, stubbornly.
“No!” Sebastian said abruptly. “I'm so glad you're alive bro, but I want you to be that way. Caleb and Rowan can take over. Besides you need some rest, and some conversation,” he nodded towards Diana, who looked nervous as hell.
“Fine, but I'm not riding in no damn ambulance,” he said, and I sighed. “I'll take the car, and…” he turned to look at Diana. “We'll meet you there,” he said, and Sebastian nodded.
I scoffed looking at him. “That's the best we can get, and Diana will be there to see him get to the hospital. Right?” He directed the question at her.
“Of course I will,” she said with a shy smile. I looked at her keenly, I have never seen my friend like this.
But I rather they have their conversation first before I ask any questions.
“Good luck,” I said to both of them as I got into the ambulance, and it drove off.
“I hope my guy gets laid before he gets to the hospital,” Sebastian said with a smirk on his face.
“He just survived a burning building, I'm pretty sure that's not what's on his mind!” I fired at him.
“Judging by the way he has been looking at Diana, I'm pretty sure it is.”
“Can you not talk about my friend and brother in that manner,” I snorted, and he laughed as we drove out towards the road.
What a jerk?
