Chapter 61 Sixty two
ROMAN’S POV
Crouching down, Roman tried to steady his breathing.
He watched Sean, the guy he suspected to be working with Brandon, exchange a bag Roman was sure contained illegal stuffs, with some other guy.
Roman had been steadily tracking Sean for two days now.
The guy was as shady as they come, but still Roman hadn’t gotten the information he wanted.
He briefly contemplated asking him directly about Brandon, but held back on that thought.
The tournament will be starting tomorrow, and yet Roman hasn't gotten enough information about Brandon.
After Sean was done with the guy, Roman stood up from where he had been hiding. He followed him, before purposefully bumping into him.
“Oh! sorry man,” Roman told him, holding his arms to steady him.
Sean looked at him, before rudely jerking his hands away from Roman’s.
Without saying anything, he simply turned, before walking off.
Roman watched him go, before grinning at the phone he had swiped from Sean.
He wasn’t a criminal or anything of that sort, but he and Stefan, used to practice on how to swap stuff from people.
He had always never been interested, not seeing the need for it, but now, Roman was grateful Stefan had insisted on him learning.
Quickly, he walked back to his dorm room. He couldn’t wait to go through the phone, his only problem was unclocking the phone.
By the time Roman got to his dorm room, he was tired and anxious. He quickly discarded his clothes, before taking his shower.
After that, Roman got to work. The phone was an old one, nothing too fancy.
For someone like Sean, Roman guessed the guy wouldn’t need a complicated password. He tried two times, and on the third try, the phone was unlocked.
Yes!!!!! He screamed excitedly, as expected, his password had been something simple and easy to guess.
Going through the phone, there wasn’t much on it like he had expected.
Simple texts about some parties, the rest had been deleted.
Roman groaned out in frustration, before slumping down on his bed.
Everything, all the trailing and shit had all been for nothing.
An alert tone rang through the silent room, Roman sighed out loudly, before looking for his phone.
There was no message on it, so where had the alert tone come from?
Quickly he checked Sean’s phone, and a message from an unsaved number was there.
“Will be at the cave by five, meet me there.”
The message was simple and straight to the point.
Since he was with Sean’s phone, he wouldn’t get the message, but Roman did, and he had to go to the said location.
He checked the time, it was four thirty already, which means he had thirty minutes to get ready.
The cave, in the message, was probably where the parties were held. Apart from there, Roman hadn’t heard of any other cave.
He dressed up quickly, before going towards Richie's door.
If the message was from Brandon like Roman suspected, then it was wise he was with Richie as a cover up.
“Hey man,” Richie says, standing in front of his door.
“Yea. It’s been a while, training and stuff like that.” Roman says, chuckling awkwardly. “Hey umm do you wanna go to the party Mr Castor is hosting for us before the tournament starts?”
“What!!!! A party I didn’t know of?” Richie says in shock. “Of course man, I was already so bored. Just give me a minute he says,” before walking back into his room, the door left ajar.
Roman simply smiled, of course there was no party, none that he knew off, but that was the only way to get Richie out of his room.
He walked into the room, grimacing at how dirty everything was. Clothes scattered about, the smell of sweat covering the whole room.
He watched as Richie picked some clothes from the heaps of clothes scattered around, putting on a simple black top and joggers.
He wore his sneakers, before they both headed out.
“How come this party is just for the people participating in the tournament? I mean that’s not fair,” Richie says, walking beside Roman.
“Well!! tell that to Mr Castor, I guess he just wants us to be at ease for a while.”
Richie groaned, muttering how it wasn’t fair under his breath.
“Where is this party being held?”Richie asked.
“Oh! Umm! The cave, or something like that.”
“So where are we going?” Richie asked. He stopped walking abruptly, before turning towards Roman.
“Umm! the cave?” Roman answered. “I mean, isn’t that where we always sneak of to?”
“Oh!!! man, that place is bursted.” Richie says, before chuckling. “Yea funny story. We had a party there, security showed up, and that place has been closed off.”
“Oh!!”Roman mutters dumbly. His mind was swirling, if that place had been shut off, then what Cave was the message talking about.
“We need to go there,” Roman says. “You know how students are, I am sure they still party there.”
If the place had been shut off, then that was the perfect place for shady business.
“Alright be honest with me, are you sure Mr Castor is the one holding this party?” Richie asked in an accusing tone.
Roman sighed, running his hands through his hair. He always forgot that Richie was smarter than he looked,
“No,” Roman answered honestly. “I overheard some of our competitors talking about the cave or something, and I wanted to check it out. The tournament starts tomorrow, and I need to see if I can get leverage over them.”
“See,” Richie says grinning. “It’s nice when you tell me the truth. As a matter of fact, I do know the cave you heard them talking about.”
“Of course you do,” Roman muttered, before following Richie who was already walking in the opposite direction.
“You see, any school needs a secret hideout for it to thrive," Richie says, deepening his voice. “That’s why we had to create another hangout, it’s not as large as the other one, but it does the job.”
They walked for a while, going through shortcuts Roman didn’t even know about. Finally, they got to an old abandoned building that was obviously sealed off.
“Is this the place?” Roman asked, taking in the eerie building, and how silent everywhere was. He glanced around nervously, sudden dread filling his stomach.
“Yes,” Richie muttered, also glancing around with a frown on his face, before moving towards the back of the building.
Roman watched as he descended down a latch that was already broken.
“Where are you going?” He whispered to Richie, suddenly not sure about going down. Something about all this, and the location was screaming at every instinct Roman had.
Moreover, he had lied to Richie about a nonexistent party.
He wouldn’t want him to be in danger.
“Oh forgot to mention, it’s underground, how cool is that.” Richie says with a wide grin, before going down the open latch.
Well!! it was too late now, Roman thought, before also going down.
Surprisingly, when they finally got down, the cave wasn’t as dark as Roman expected. It was obvious that the building had been built ontop a cave, for what purpose Roman didn’t know.
He followed Richie who was expertly walking around, occasionally glancing back.
“Hey!!! slow down,” Roman whispered out, he wasn’t sure, but he could have sworn he heard a faint scream.
“What is it?” Richie whispered out, obviously sensing the panic in Roman’s eyes.
Before Roman could answer.
Loud painful screams were heard.
The terrifying sound, sending a chill down Roman’s back.
