Chapter 87 Simon's
ISABEL'S POV
I almost hurled my phone across the room as I watched the launch of that stupid drug. I couldn't look past the grim look on Anna's face as she answered the journalists like she owned the place.
What was she feeling like? A Quinn? I didn't even care what our parents were saying about her being their biological daughter. I was the one that deserved this. No one else. No one was supposed to take this from me. This is what I worked for. If I didn't put in so much work into becoming the owner of the company and if they didn't promise me so much, then maybe I would have made my years more productive in my own way.
I quickly wiped the tears that were sliding down my face. She didn't deserve my tears. Not in this life, and not in the next.
Now that the drug had been released, I realized that I missed the opportunity to poison it.
“Another opportunity out the window,” I whispered to myself, with my fingers curling underneath the sheets.
The ringing of my phone on the bed startled me slightly. As I looked at the caller ID, I couldn't help but scoff. It was Melissa. The girl that proved even more useless than she looked. I thought the both of us would create magic and I would get her out of the way. But Anna was still there. Succeeding and slowly making her way up the list of successful doctors.
“What do you want?” I said, immediately I answered the phone and pressed it to my ear.
I could hear her small gasp on the other line. “It didn't work out, did it?” She asked.
“I believe you're watching the launch of her drug on the t.v. She's still my parents' beloved daughter.” At this point, I didn't even think that was going to change.
I was about to tell Melissa that we should leave everything. Anna had already stolen everything. I might as well stop wasting resources on Anna, and everything that had to do with her. Things would only get worse if our parents somehow managed to find out that I was involved in whatever hurt their biological daughter.
The thought stung.
Just as I opened my mouth, I remembered the other person that she stole from me. Ryan.
There was no way I was going to let her get away with that one.
“When can we meet again?” I heard Melissa ask, and I was glad that she did, but I had bigger fish to fry. It was more than obvious that she wouldn't be able to fill that role.
“One more time,” I said anyway. “The Simons restaurant. I might as well treat you to lunch.”
I heard the little excitement in Melissa's voice as she said she was going to get ready right away. I rolled my eyes. They weren't even as rich as she and her husband tried to portray on social media. I couldn't forget the way I scoffed as I checked their net worth. Nothing even close to mine, considering the way I spent money.
I headed to the bathroom, taking a quick bath, and putting on a midnight black blazer. My hair was done in a high ponytail, as I slipped my feet into one of my expensive strappy heels.
“Ma’am, what if your parents asked for you?” One of the maids asked, with her gaze fixed to the ground. My mouth curled in disgust.
“Where I go isn't really their business.” I muttered, heading out of the house anyway. The last thing I needed was Dan looking at me in the eyes and telling me that he thought I framed Anna with the family heirloom.
A shudder ran through my spine.
About an hour later, the Simons restaurant came into view. I allowed myself to smile. The thought that I could go to such expensive places was something I could never really take for granted.
As I stepped out of the car and walked right through the restaurant, the door was pushed open for me. I smiled again. They didn't need to ask if I had a reservation. I was a Quinn. If they didn't have a table, they had to make one.
I got to the first floor where Melissa said she was. I almost laughed when I saw the slightly cheap dress that she was wearing. I could identify a cheap dress from a mile away.
“Are funds going downhill already?” I asked her, and she flinched.
“You have no idea what Anna, still alive , is doing to James. He's obsessing over her.” She wrinkled her nose as she said the next statement. “The worst part? His mom is acting like Anna might as well be the second Jesus.”
I couldn't hold back my smirk as I checked the menu. I signalled for the waiter, and she ordered hers as well. She ordered one of the most expensive dishes.
One thing I liked about her. She didn't think about the expenses. She didn't care who was paying. But she didn't settle for less. That didn't take away the pain written all over her as she talked about her husband and his mother.
“Do you see what they see in her?” I asked, leaning back with my hands folded across my chest. I watched her as she wet her lips before speaking again.
“She's obviously more beautiful than she was, five years ago. James couldn't stop talking about how he thought she filled her dress.”
James…
Her husband seemed like he was going to be fun to be around. My mind was already working through what he could actually help me do. Melissa was just a pained housewife. Her pain was good, but I didn't think she was going to be able to do as much as her desperate husband could do.
I leaned in, narrowing my eyes at her.
“Can you set me up with your husband?”
