Chapter 102 Her Best Life
MELISSA'S POV
I didn't know what I was supposed to do, the moment that I stepped out of the Quinns' home. It was almost like every single person had moved on with their lives without me.
James had gone to our matrimonial home with Isabel. I couldn't get over the fact that she had asked me to introduce her to him. Was this her plan all along? I should have known she was going to meet him behind my back.
For the first time in years, I missed my best friend. That was the kind of friendship I should have protected with my life.
I managed to pull my phone out of my pocket and ordered an Uber. I didn't want to go to any of my friends' places. I had to go back to the home that I shared with James. I was slightly ashamed that I barely had a life of my own, but I didn't have a choice.
It was only going to be a while until James chased me out of his life. I had to make bigger moves before any of that happened. I couldn't let it happen to me.
I was usually smart.
I slapped my hand on my forehead slightly. “What were you thinking?” I asked myself in a whisper. “You're usually smart. Did you trade all that to steal your best friend's boyfriend?”
People who were walking past were glancing at me like they were trying to make sure that I wasn't running mad. I didn't think I was ready to prove anything to them. I just wanted to sleep.
By the time a cab finally pulled up right in front of me, I exhaled sharply.
“Melissa?” The driver asked, and I nodded as I got into the back seat. I was wringing my hands in my lap as he drove towards my house.
I didn't even know what I was going to meet. Was I going to meet them in bed? There were countless times that Anna was supposed to catch us in that manner. But we were too smart. Or we thought we were.
And now, she was living her best life as a Quinn. As I saw the resolve in her face, I knew that I had lost her as a friend. But the fact remained that both of us now wanted to take revenge on just one man. And that was James.
It was all up to her to make the decision. I could only hope she would give me a positive response.
I barely checked the amount I handed over to the driver, but he didn't call me back, so I knew that I was good.
I managed to stumble inside, pushing the door open. The living room was empty, and my heart was thumping in my chest as I headed upstairs. I gently kicked my shoes off. The parlor was slightly a mess, just as I left it.
When I remembered how stupid I looked when I was running to the Quinn home, that only showed how stupid I actually was. There was just one fact that was extremely clear. I didn't know anything that had to do with drugs, so I was useless to James.
I tiptoed up the staircase, trying to be as quiet as possible. I didn't know what I wanted to meet. I pushed the door open, and James was alone in the room. I looked around, and he cocked an eyebrow.
“Took you long enough,” he said, and my hands balled into fists at my side.
“Is that what you're supposed to say?” I asked, walking towards him as I pushed his chest. “You had better start explaining.”
“What do you want to hear?” He asked, holding both my wrists in one of his palms. Even if I had to think of a plan that had to do with revenge, I had to be sensible. James could break me if he wanted.
There was a small smile on his face. That was the last emotion that I was expecting to see on his face. But there it was, in plain sight.
“Anna didn't give you the formula. She's obviously not going to help you. So why are you smiling?”
“Because we have Isabel on our side. She's in our home. It doesn't matter if she's no longer a Quinn. We can't look past the fact that she's rich. She has her own company.”
I cocked an eyebrow. “She does?” I asked. I honestly saw Isabel as someone who relied on her parents.
James gave me a nod. “I haven't been able to talk her into it, but she might just be able to give us the amount of money that we need to hold everyone back.”
“But you accepted that you were her boyfriend in front of the whole family,” I said. I hated how naive I sounded. He was winning me over one more time.
He frowned, before running his hand through his face. “I'm sorry that I haven't told you about it. But I was somehow supposed to gain an entrance into the family. Until her stupid brother came and turned things around.”
He wasn't lying. I could tell. There was no twitch in his left eye.
He pulled me by my waist closer to him, and I could immediately feel a little pulsing between my legs.
“What are you doing?” I muttered, and he smirked.
“It's been so long, Melissa,” he muttered in my ear, and I felt my knees buckle. This man still had an effect on me. I felt myself melt in his arms. All my anger seemed to evaporate.
“You've been busy trying to build your company from the beginning.”
He nodded, placing a small peck on my lips. He looked at me like I was the most beautiful woman in the world.
“I should have paid attention to you. I'm sorry for being so obsessed with my drug. Both of us are going to find a solution for everything, right?”
I gave him a nod. “You won't leave me when things are finally working out for you, right?” I asked, and he nodded immediately.
“I wouldn't dare. But then, I need your help.”
I frowned. “With what?”
“Remember the gold jewelry that your mom has?” He asked, and I nodded.
“The one that she doesn't have any use for?” I asked, and he nodded.
“You know that it won't be long until she dies. And you're her only child. You can ask for it now.”
I highly doubt that my mom would give it to me, but it was worth a try. I didn't know what I was thinking the first time, but this man wasn't going to leave me alone.
It was for better for worse.
“And Isabel?” I asked. “When is she leaving?”
“As soon as possible. Once she has her stuff sorted. But you don't have to worry. Just tolerate her for a while.”
He slowly unzipped my jeans. I let it fall to the floor as he claimed my lips in his, devouring them like he was starved.
If it wasn't because of Anna, then things would have been perfectly fine between the two of us.
He leaned down, running a thumb through my already hard nipple. He popped one into his mouth, while he ran his thumb through the other one.
I threw my head back, unable to hold back my moan. I fumbled with his belt as I undid his button and zipper, taking off his trousers and boxer briefs. I went on my knees, maintaining eye contact with him.
I ran my tongue through the tip of his already hard cock, before taking him in as deep as I could, while wrapping my hands at the base.
“Fuck, Anna,” he whispered, making me stop. He looked down at me immediately.
“Why did you stop?” He asked, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“What did you just say?” I asked
“I said fuck, keep going. Do you have an issue with that?” He asked, and I shook my head. But as I leaned back down to keep sucking, I spotted his left eye twitching.
