Chapter 26 Chapter 26. The Other Female’s Discovery

Chapter 26 Chapter 26. The Other Female’s Discovery
Faye’s weak voice reached Zephyr’s ears, making him even more irritated. He cursed under his breath and released Zoria, who was trembling in his arms.

Standing up, he adjusted his soaked clothes and walked toward the door.

When the door opened, Faye stood before him with reddened eyes, her body shaking. All the frustration in his heart vanished in an instant.

"Why do you suddenly have a fever?" he asked, placing his hand on her forehead, his voice full of concern.

"After you took Zoria away, I was so worried that I sat and waited in my room. Not long after, my body started to feel hot. I wanted to endure it for the night, but I just kept getting worse…" Faye’s voice was hoarse and so weak it was barely audible.

Her watery eyes slowly closed, looking pitiful beyond words.

Zephyr really wanted to pull Faye into his arms to comfort her, but because he was still wet, he could only pat her head and soften his tone. "I will take you back to your room. I will call the doctor right away."

"Is Zoria also in there?" Faye’s gaze flicked unconsciously toward the faint figure behind the glass bathroom door.

Zephyr paused slightly, the sexual desire in his body gradually fading.

Faye asked in a hurt voice, "Did I interrupt you and Zoria?"

"No. Be good, don’t overthink it."

“It would be better for you to stay with Zoria. She is sick too.” Faye’s compulsive insistence made Zephyr feel deeply guilty.

“How could she matter more than you?” Zephyr softened his voice to reassure Faye. Then his expression turned cold as he looked back at Zoria and said, “Your medicine is in the living room. Take it, then go upstairs and rest in the guest bedroom. Go to bed early.”

Zoria remained tense. Only when she heard the door slam shut behind her did her body finally loosen. She sank weakly into the warm water, her whole body going soft. She kept trembling, even her fingertips quivering.

The bathroom was filled with the overpowering scent of Alpha hormones, making Zoria nauseous. She staggered out of the bathtub, lifted the toilet lid, bent over, and vomited violently.

Because she had not eaten anything, all she threw up was pale yellow acidic fluid.

The burning pain in her throat made tears spill from her eyes. The corners of her eyes turned red as tears mixed with sweat, soaking her haggard face. While retching, Zoria kept pressing the flush button, trying to clean the toilet.

……

Faye felt an indescribable sense of unease rising in her chest. Ever since the surgery, Zephyr had never mentioned cutting off the mate bond with Zoria again. She used to not understand why, but now she finally did.

Zephyr had fallen for Zoria, perhaps without even realizing it himself.

Faye clenched her fingers tightly, her thoughts in chaos. It was not until the doctor arrived and Zephyr left the villa for work that she gradually calmed down.

She stood up and opened a drawer. Inside were several pills. They were not her medicine but Zoria’s. When Zephyr carried Zoria out of the villa, Faye had seen these pills fall onto the floor as they passed the storage room.

The pills were kept in a vitamin bottle, but once opened, they gave off a strong medicinal smell that was nothing like vitamins. Suspicious, Faye kept a few pills in the drawer, planning to ask the doctor when she had the chance.

Just then, the bedroom door opened and the doctor walked in. Seeing that Faye was already out of bed, he asked, “Miss Faye, do you still have a fever?”

“No, it’s gone. Thank you, Dr. Smith.” Faye paused, then added, “Oh right, Doctor, could you help me take a look at this? What kind of medicine is it?”

Dr. Smith was the Hawthorne family’s private physician. He would surely know what kind of medicine Zoria was taking.

He picked up a pill, brought it close to his nose to smell it, then examined it carefully.

He frowned and said, “This is a pregnancy support medication. Why do you have this?”

Faye froze, her pupils shrinking. Pregnancy support medication? Dr. Smith’s tone was so certain that there was no room for doubt. But Zoria had always looked so frail. Could it be that…

Faye asked, “Dr. Smith, under what circumstances would someone normally take this kind of medicine?”

Dr. Smith hesitated briefly, then replied, “Usually when a female is pregnant.”

Faye suddenly remembered the bone marrow transplant surgery when she had leukemia. Zoria had nearly died on the operating table that day. At the time, she thought it was because Zoria’s body was too weak. Now it seemed she needed to personally meet the doctor who performed that surgery and ask him clearly.

At noon, the maid came upstairs to call Faye down for lunch.

When she went downstairs and did not see the female she disliked, Faye casually asked, “Where is Zoria?”

The maid was used to this situation and replied indifferently, “She is still lying in bed. You do not need to worry about her. She has always been weak by nature.”

Faye did not mind. She smiled and said, “Bring her a meal anyway. Otherwise, when Zephyr comes back, he will say we treated her too harshly.”

The maid was displeased but still followed Faye’s instructions. She gathered some leftover food and took it upstairs.

Zoria heard the knock and reluctantly opened the door. When she saw it was the maid, a trace of mockery rose in her heart.

After the maid left, Zoria only managed to eat a few bites before putting her chopsticks down. Her stomach churned violently again, and she hurried into the bathroom to vomit.

From yesterday until now, her stomach had almost never stopped tormenting her. In the past, even when she had allergic reactions, it had never been this severe, especially not after she had received an IV and taken medication at the hospital.

Faye was about to go upstairs to get her coat when she heard the sound of vomiting coming from the shared bathroom. She did not need to look to know who it was. Aside from Zoria, there was no one else on the second floor.
