Chapter 13 Chapter 13. Zoria Begs Zephyr to Sever the Bond
Of course, there was another reason: just the thought of the castle without Zoria made Zephyr uncomfortable, as if something was missing. He unconsciously wanted to see Zoria in the castle, just like before.
…
Zoria hadn't slept all night, gently stroking her belly, her face filled with sorrow. At that moment, she was still pregnant, and if Zephyr refused to sever the bond with her, it was only a matter of time before he realized the baby inside her was still alive.
Based on what she understood about Zephyr, she believed he would certainly force her to abort because of Faye.
Recalling the previous night, when Zephyr coldly and indifferently spoke those words to her, Zoria felt an even greater sense of discomfort in her heart. Unable to hold back, she wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes.
Zephyr opened the door and saw Zoria rubbing her eyes. Her eyes were so swollen that she could barely open them, her face pale, and her lips devoid of color.
Seeing her like this, Zephyr knew for sure that Zoria had not slept all night.
Hearing the noise, Zoria lifted her head and looked at Zephyr. Her gaze was filled with pain and pleading. "Zephyr, I beg you, let's sever the bond." Zoria took a deep breath, her voice hoarse from crying all night, almost inaudible.
Zephyr gazed deeply at Zoria's frail body, the female who had loved him for five years, who once valued him more than her own life. Yet now, she wanted to sever the bond as soon as she saw him.
His heart involuntarily trembled, but his expression remained cold, and his emotions quickly changed. "Zoria, I made it clear to you last night, I cannot sever the bond with you."
Zephyr's cruel words rang in Zoria's ears like thunder, causing her to sob uncontrollably. She looked up at Zephyr, who always stood above her, looking down at her. Suddenly, the corner of her mouth lifted into a bitter smile.
"Zephyr, you destroyed my family, sent my father to prison, made it impossible for me to return home, and nearly killed me on the operating table. Now, I have nothing left, only asking you to let me go. You clearly agreed to sever the bond with me, so why won't you? Zephyr, why have you become so ruthless?"
"Ruthless?" Zephyr suddenly closed his eyes, and upon hearing Zoria's words, his heart ached. When he opened his eyes again, his gaze returned to its usual coldness. "Back then, when you clung to me, did you never think that I would be ruthless to you?"
Zoria turned her face away, her voice hoarse, carrying the sound of sobs. "Because at that time, I thought that if I loved you like this, there would come a day when you would be moved and love me back."
Zephyr looked at Zoria with a scrutinizing gaze. Suddenly, he wanted to ask Zoria if she still loved him now.
Zoria sat across from Zephyr. Her frail body trembled gently. After a moment, she smiled faintly. "At that time, I was really too naive. There are things that I now understand, but it’s too late. Zephyr, I have loved you all these years, and it has drained all my strength. Now, I just want to leave you, but why won't you let me go? I have endured, taken the punishment, even when my baby...," Zoria couldn't hold back and burst into tears.
When Zephyr heard the word "baby," his heart seemed to be torn apart, a pain that was unbearable.
"Zoria," Zephyr suddenly lifted her chin, gently wiping away the tears on her face, and soothing her swollen eyes that could barely open.
In just a few short days, Zoria had become so haggard that it made Zephyr feel uncomfortable. "The death of the child in your womb is my fault. But if you want, I can give you another child."
Upon hearing this, Zoria felt her heart tighten. How could Zephyr say such words? Had he not hurt her enough already?
Zephyr ignored the painful look in Zoria's eyes, bent down, and lifted her up.
"Let me go, Zephyr!" Zoria screamed.
Zoria, frail and struggling in Zephyr's chest, found it completely useless. Zephyr gripped her slender wrist with one hand, his brow furrowing as her icy skin sent a shiver through him.
Zoria trembled with anger, the overwhelming events of the past few days had nearly broken her spirit. Seeing that Zephyr paid no attention to her resistance, even controlling both of her arms, she snapped, "Zephyr, what exactly do you want?"
Zephyr calmly responded, "I’m taking you home."
Zoria’s entire body tensed, looking both fragile and pitiful, "That’s not my home, it’s yours and Faye’s."
She couldn’t forget that day when she returned to find Zephyr and Faye entwined on her very own bed. She couldn’t forget the moment when her face was covered in blood, signing the bone marrow donation form with bitter tears, while Zephyr coldly muttered, "Love? Do you deserve to be loved?"
Zephyr furrowed his brow, feeling a surge of irritation. He had always preferred obedient and sensible females like Faye. He felt that he hadn’t treated Zoria badly these past few days, so why was she so adamant about severing the bond with him? She had loved him so deeply before, willing to die for him. Why had she changed so quickly?
"Zoria, you’d better be obedient. Don’t forget that your father is still under my control. I’ve told you, I won’t sever the bond with you. If you dare bring it up again, be careful your father suffers in prison!" Zephyr’s voice was cold, laced with fury.
Zoria’s head spun slightly upon hearing this, gritting her teeth as she replied, "What else can you do to me other than threaten me?"
"I just want to negotiate terms with you. If you continue being my mate, your father will remain safe in prison. Isn’t that good? Right now, you have nowhere to go. The Everhart members won’t accept you. Besides my castle, where else can you go?"
