Chapter 108 Chapter 108. Breaking Old Promises
“Zephyr…” Faye cried out behind him, tears spilling down her face instantly.
She staggered after him, clutching his sleeve tightly. “Zephyr, you’re going to look for Zoria, aren’t you?”
The moment the words left her mouth, her tears fell freely. Her fingers trembled as they gripped his sleeve.
“Yes.” Zephyr didn’t bother to turn around. He pulled his arm free, his voice rough and hoarse. “I’m going to find Zoria. Right now, I’m bringing her back with me.”
“Then what about me?! Zephyr, what about me?!” Faye screamed, her throat burning as if it were being torn apart.
“Zephyr, we grew up together. I was weak and sickly as a child, and you were always there, taking care of me. You said you’d take care of me for the rest of my life. Because of that one promise, I was willing to wait. I waited for you to build your career, waited for you to have a future, waited for you to take revenge on the Everhart Pack. In the end, I waited until everything was finished and my illness was cured. But I couldn’t wait through you breaking the bond because you fell in love with Zoria.” Faye smiled, but her eyes were filled with bitterness.
“Zephyr, how can you be so cruel? How can you be so heartless?”
Her heart hurt so badly she could barely breathe. She had long been used to playing the part of the pitiful one to earn Zephyr’s sympathy. But this time, every word she spoke and every tear she shed was real.
Zephyr frowned and turned to look at her. A trace of reluctance flickered in his heart, but his decision would not change.
“I’m sorry, Faye. I did say I’d take care of you for life, but that has nothing to do with love. Maybe… I never loved you at all.”
He reached into his coat, took out his wallet, pulled out a black card, and pressed it into her hand.
“Take this card and use it. Spend as much as you want.”
With that, he shoved Faye aside without hesitation. She stood frozen in place. His cold, resolute back made her eyes sting with pain. By the time she rushed forward to chase after him, Zephyr had already gone downstairs.
She pressed herself against the floor-to-ceiling window, watching his icy figure get into the car without a single moment of hesitation. Even at that very instant, she was still praying that Zephyr would turn back, look at her just once, stay by her side, and not go looking for Zoria.
Faye clutched the black card in her hand, laughing foolishly. Staring at her own reflection in the glass door, she mocked herself for being utterly insane. More than ten years of love, and in the end all she had gained was a cold, lifeless black card.
Zephyr’s icy, heartless words kept echoing in her ears. He had said that he had never loved her to begin with. Then what, exactly, had her love over all those years been worth?
Faye tightened her grip, tears flooding her face. She wrapped her arms around herself and sank down onto the floor. Her body trembled violently, yet she did not feel cold. What she felt was a crushing pain in her chest, so intense it stole her breath, as if someone were grinding her heart into pieces. The pain spread through her entire body, making her shake uncontrollably.
After a while, she lifted her head. Her eyes were bloodshot, her gaze wild and unhinged. Zoria could not be allowed to die easily. She would make sure Zoria died a miserable, humiliating death.
Grinding her teeth, Faye forced herself to stand up. She went back to the bedroom, picked up her phone, and dialed Michael’s number. The phone rang twice before the call was answered.
Michael’s lazy voice came through the line. “Faye, it’s been a long time since you contacted me. I thought you’d forgotten about me already.”
Faye got straight to the point. “Michael, I need you to do something for me.”
“So you only remember me when you’re in trouble, huh? Tsk. Fine, what is it?”
“I want Zoria dead.” Her eyes looked as though they were soaked in poison.
“That sounds a bit difficult.”
His indifferent tone ignited the fury burning inside Faye. Her gaze darkened.
“Michael, you definitely have a way. Zoria and Zephyr have already broken their bond. She doesn’t have anyone protecting her now. You’ll have your chance to kill her.”
Michael asked, “If they’ve already broken the bond, why do you still want her dead?”
Faye’s voice turned icy. “I hate her. I won’t be satisfied unless she’s dead.”
Michael clicked his tongue, finding Faye vicious beyond expectation.
“Michael, you promised me before that you’d punish her. Don’t forget that.”
Michael fell silent, hesitating.
Back then, he had only made that promise casually so he could fuck Faye. He had never expected her to take it seriously. Did she really think Zephyr was easy to deal with? Zephyr was powerful and terrifyingly capable of tracing things back to their source, especially when he was in Amberville.
Michael propped his chin on his hand, as if weighing his options. Killing Zoria quietly would not be difficult. The real problem would be the aftermath, if Zephyr traced the clues back to him.
Michael asked, “Can you get Zephyr out of Amberville for a while?”
“How long?”
“At least three months.”
Faye frowned, thought for a moment, then answered without hesitation. “Fine.”
Michael chuckled softly. “You don’t really think this is that simple, do you?”
Faye asked, “What do you want?”
Michael said, “Once it’s done, I want fifty million. And you’ll have to let me fuck you for a year. If you can do that, I’ll help you kill Zoria.”
Faye froze. Fifty million would be difficult, but she could still find a way to manage it. But letting him fuck her for an entire year… what if Zephyr found out?
She tightened her grip on the phone, her face turning deathly pale.
Hearing the silence on the other end, Michael knew she was hesitating. He was sharp enough to guess exactly what she was afraid of.
Lowering his voice, he laughed coaxingly. “Relax, Faye. I like you. How could I put you in danger? We’ll meet in secret. Same as before, I’ll be your lover in the shadows. Zephyr won’t find out.”
