Chapter 69
As Ryan spoke, he reached out his hand to Cassandra and beckoned her.
The officers clearly recognized Ryan. One of them chuckled. “Mr. Scott? You got married?”
Ryan approached. Once the female officer unfastened Cassandra’s handcuffs, he took her hand and raised it. “Sorry, folks. Just a misunderstanding.”
“But wait. Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey reported that Ms Blake here is married to their son, Cameron Dorsey.”
Ryan smiled. “Well then, why don’t you ask her? Who’s really her husband?”
All eyes in the room turned to Cassandra, waiting for her answer.
Cassandra froze. She had already made up her mind to divorce Cameron, so she naturally wasn’t about to admit that she was still his wife.
But to openly say she was Ryan’s wife? That just sounded absurd.
She glanced at Ryan in confusion, whispering, “What the hell are you up to?”
“Saving you,” he replied simply.
“…And what am I supposed to say?”
“Friendly reminder that we haven’t signed a legal representation agreement yet, so I can’t post your bail as your lawyer. But I can, as your family.”
Without missing a beat, Cassandra pointed directly at him and said to the officer, “He’s the one.”
The officers were stunned. Ryan was pleased. Cassandra was beyond speechless.
He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her into his chest. “See? All clear now. ssandra is my wife. She has nothing to do with the Dorsey family.”
“But we checked Ms. Blake’s bank records. She did receive a wire transfer of 100 million dollars from Mr. Dorsey’s account.”
“Oh, really? Did the transfer have a note or memo?”
“No, nothing like that.”
Ryan smiled smoothly. “Well, that clears it up then. My wife is a brilliant investor, and since our families are on good terms, Mr. Dorsey wanted her to help manage some of his funds. He’s
getting on in age. He probably just forgot the whole thing.”
“I see… So it was a personal investment arrangement?”

“Exactly. Although,” Ryan added thoughtfully, “here might be more to it. My wife had a little dog named Snowball. Yesterday, someone poisoned it. Mr. Dorsey admitted that he was behind
“Out of anger, my wife burned some of his prized paintings. I guess he held a grudge and decided to retaliate. We actually lodged a report about that last night.”
The officer turned to his colleague. The younger officer nodded. “Yeah, I was on duty. The report’s legitimate.”
The senior officer let out a long sigh. “So… all this over a personal spat? Filing a false report of extortion involving 100 million dollars? That’s a serious felony. That could ruin her life.”
Ryan continued, “Officer Walter, since they’ve already crossed the line and falsely accused my wife, I see no reason to hold back. Mr. Dorsey poisoned a domestic pet. He’s endangering public safety, isn’t he? Isn’t it grounds for detention?”
Marcus nodded. “It is.”
“I have the vet’s report and a recording,” Ryan said, pulling out his phone. “I’m formally requesting that Mr. Dorsey be detained for the crime of unlawfully distributing harmful substances.”
He tapped on the screen and played the audio.
Simon’s voice came through. “Yeah, I poisoned it. So what? It’s just a dog. It’s not like I killed a person. The cops aren’t going to arrest me over killing a dog, are they?
“If killing dogs were a crime, what about the people who slaughter other animals for food? It’s not like dogs are endangered. So what if I killed it? Whatever you paid for that mutt, I’ll pay
back. A Westie isn’t even worth that much.”

Cassandra stared at Ryan, shocked. He’d recorded everything that happened at the Dorsey estate last night?
This man really lived and breathed his profession. Even in chaos, he was collecting evidence. Still, she had to admit that if it weren’t for him, she’d be in deep trouble right now.
Not only had he gotten her cleared of all charges, but he’d also flipped the whole case back to Simon and even avenged Snowball.
When she looked at Ryan again, her gaze carried a new weight–something like admiration and gratitude.
“Don’t look at me like that. You’ll make me lose control. We’ll talk at home.”
She blinked. “Lose control? Over what?”
He winked, his tone suddenly teasing and thick with suggestiveness. “What do you think?”
