Chapter 43 Realistic Conflict Resolution

Chapter 43 Realistic Conflict Resolution

The argument hangs between them like smoke.

Neither speaking. Both thinking. Tension thick.

Zephyra returns to her laptop. Types aggressively.

Kairo does the same. Jaw clenched. Silent.

They work in hostile quiet. Minutes stretching like hours.

Finally, Zephyra breaks.

"Let's try to solve this rationally." Her voice is controlled.

"Fine." Kairo doesn't look up. "Rationally."

"Milan is crucial for World Creator's League prep." She states facts. "I need to see competitor work. Network with judges. Understand expectations."

"My investor meeting determines Asian expansion funding." He counters. "Five hundred million. Without it, we can't execute our strategy."

"So we're equally stuck." She says bitterly.

"Apparently."

She throws her pen down. Frustration exploding.

"Why does this feel like I'm always the one compromising?" Her voice rises. "I moved my collection timeline for your merger. I adjusted my studio schedule for board meetings. When do my priorities come first?"

Kairo looks up. Eyes sharp.

"That's not fair." His voice hardens. "I compromise too. I turned down the London expansion to stay close to your design work. I rearranged my entire schedule around Fashion Week."

"That's different—"

"How?" He stands. "How is it different? Because your career is creative and mine is business? Because design is passion and finance is just money?"

"I never said that."

"You didn't have to." His words cut. "I see it in your eyes. You think your work matters more."

The accusation stings. Burns.

"That's not true." But her voice wavers.

"Isn't it?" He challenges. "You want me to skip the most important investor meeting of my career. But if I asked you to skip Milan, you'd call it controlling."

"Because it is different!" She's shouting now. "Milan is about my growth. My future. My identity as a designer."

"And my meeting is about our company's growth. Our future. My identity as a businessman."

They stare at each other. Both hurt. Both angry. Both right.

"This partnership means we both sacrifice sometimes." Kairo's voice quiets. "Not just me. Not just you. Both."

Tears burn her eyes. She blinks them back.

"I'm tired." She whispers. "Of always negotiating. Always compromising. Always choosing between my dreams and our relationship."

"You think I'm not?" His voice breaks. "I'm tired too. Of feeling like the bad guy for having needs. For having ambitions that sometimes conflict with yours."

Silence. Heavy. Painful.

Neither knows what to say.

"I need air." Zephyra grabs her coat.

"Zee—"

"Just... give me space." She walks out.

Leaves him standing alone in their home office.

She drives aimlessly. Mind spinning. Heart aching.

Parks at a coffee shop. Sits with untouched latte.

Her phone buzzes. Percy.

"Hey." His voice is careful. "Kairo called. Said you guys are fighting?"

"We can't figure out Milan versus the investor meeting." She says flatly.

"Ah." Percy is quiet for a moment. "The impossible choice."

"There has to be an answer." Her voice cracks. "

"Maybe there is." Percy says gently. "But maybe it's not the answer you want."

"What does that mean?"

"It means welcome to marriage." He sighs. "It's negotiating every single day. Sometimes there's no perfect solution.

She closes her eyes. Hating that he's right.

"You're both right, Zee." Percy continues. "And you're both wrong. That's the hard part. Nobody's the villain here."

She stays at the coffee shop another hour. Thinking.

Then drives home.

Kairo sits on their apartment steps. Waiting.

She sits beside him. Close but not touching.

"I'm sorry." She says quietly. "For saying your work matters less."

"I'm sorry too." He takes her hand. "For not acknowledging how important Milan is to you."

They sit in silence. Holding hands. Finding their way back.

"What if..." She starts. "What if I go to Milan for the first half of the week? Then fly back for your investor meeting?"

He thinks about it. "And I could join you in Milan for the summit's second half? After my meeting?"

"It's not perfect." She admits. "We'd be exhausted.

"But it honors both priorities." He squeezes her hand. "Both of us.

She looks at him. This man learning to share control.

"It's a lot of travel." She warns. "A lot of stress."

"We've survived worse." He smiles softly. "Remember Fashion Week? The sabotage? The World Creator's League announcement?"

She laughs. "True."

"We can do this." He pulls her close. "It won't be easy. But we'll make it work."

She kisses him. Grateful. Relieved. Hopeful.

"I'm still learning to share control." He admits against her lips. "It's not easy for me."

"Me too." She whispers back. "But we're learning together.

They finalize the plan over the next few days.

She'll attend Milan summit Monday through Wednesday. He handles investor preparation.

Wednesday night, she flies back. Arrives Thursday morning, jet-lagged but present.

His investor meeting is Thursday afternoon. She's there beside him. Supporting.

Friday morning, they fly to Milan together. He joins the summit's final events.

It's exhausting just planning it. But it works.

Milan is incredible. Design exhibitions. Competitor showcases. Industry networking.

Zephyra absorbs everything. Takes notes. Photographs. Learns.

But Wednesday night, she's on a plane. Racing back.

Lands Thursday at six AM. Rushes home. Showers. Changes.

Arrives at the office by ten. Kairo waiting. Grateful.

"You made it." He kisses her. "Thank you."

"We're partners." She says simply. "This matters to you. So it matters to me."

The investor meeting goes perfectly. Five hundred million secured.

They celebrate briefly. Then catch their flight to Milan.

By Friday afternoon, they're back at the summit. Together.

Exhausted but satisfied. Both priorities honored. Both careers supported.

Sunday evening, they fly home. Collapse in bed. Sleep for twelve hours.

Monday morning, dragging themselves to the office.

Percy and Elara wait in the conference room. Grinning mysteriously.

"What?" Zephyra asks through a yawn.

Elara holds up her left hand. Diamond sparkling.

"Percy proposed!" She squeals. "We're engaged!"

Zephyra screams. Hugs them both. Exhaustion forgotten.

"When? How? Tell us everything!"

"Last night." Percy beams. "Rooftop dinner. Very romantic."

Kairo claps Percy's shoulder. "Congratulations, brother."

"There is more." Elara bounces. "We need you both at the wedding ceremony. Kairo as best man. Zee as maid of honor."

"Obviously." Zephyra's eyes fill with glad tears. "We would not miss it."

"Wedding ceremony is in six months."

They have fun. Champagne. Hugs. joy.

But later, riding home, reality settles.

"Six months." Zephyra says softly. "Percy and Elara are building their lives together. "Like we are." Kairo has the same opinion.

"Everyone is evolving." She watches the city pass. "Shifting ahead. Building up."

"Scared?" He glances at her.

"A little." She admits. "Everything's changing so quickly."

He takes her hand. "As long as we change together, we will be okay."

She smiles.

However as they pull into their building, an idea nags.

Six months till Percy and Elara's wedding ceremony. Six months of greater scheduling conflicts, more compromises, more negotiations.

And the World Creator's League starts in three months, which means that their toughest test is still coming—so if they are already exhausted from navigating one scheduling battle, how will they survive fifty international designers competing, steady tour demands, and the stress to show themselves on the world's largest level without their relationship becoming the casualty of their shared ambition?
