Chapter 69 Chapter 69
"We should head out for a swim. There's a night party going on. I'm certain you'll be bored, so we can attend it. We'll just have to register for it." Alpha Keegan suggested, shutting his laptop and rolling off the bed.
"I'm way bored, and though you said you won't work at all, you've been working all day."
"Yes, and I apologize for that. I couldn't complete it, but now I have, so there's nothing for me to do. Just head over and wear something comfortable but not too revealing."
I stared at him with a quirked eyebrow. Why'd he care if I wore something too revealing?
I crouched to my bag and dug into it in search of what to wear. There was a swimsuit but it looked too revealing and definitely not something I was going to be comfortable with, not because Alpha Keegan said I shouldn't wear it.
"What kind of party is it?" I asked for confirmation.
"Just a party on the beach, I don't really know." He said and got rid of his t-shirt.
I grabbed a cute black bum short and a gray tank top before heading to the bathroom to change into them and tied my hair up in a ponytail.
"My hair's becoming way longer, I might have to cut it soon." I said to myself then applied what I could now identify as lip gloss, and wore two small butterfly earrings Mae had bought for me. "I look good, I guess." I glanced at myself in the mirror before concluding on stepping out.
When I returned to the bathroom, Alpha Keegan was now in his swimming trunk, showing off his muscular legs and body. His 6-pack abs and strong muscles looked like they were about to rip out of his skin and made my breath get stuck in my chest. Was he stepping out looking this hot? Many women were going to be surrounding him and drawing his attention from me.
"You look really great, as always." He said as he walked up to me, his eyes ran a quick scan over my body and a wave of darkness glided over his orbs.
I didn't have the courage to let him know that he looked way greater without effort and I felt like letting my hand roam around his body. "Can we get going now?"
"Sure," he nodded his head and wore a t-shirt over his body, an action I appreciated for future purposes.
"Let's get going." He grabbed my hand to lead us out and locked the door. His touch made tingles spark from my hand to my entire body, like an electrocution was taking place, and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't shake off the feeling. “I'll have to keep the key with the receptionist." He said and I nodded.
He still held my hand till we got to the receptionist and let go of me when he got to her desk. "Here." He dropped the key.
As he was carrying out the correct requirements, I remembered that I had left my phone and needed to reply to a text from. Chloe. "Alpha Keegan, I think I left my phone."
The receptionist stopped what she was doing and glanced at me with a creased forehead, coupled with Alpha Keegan widening his eyes.
"Alpha?" she glanced at Alpha Keegan then back at me.
"No, it's nothing. She just thinks it's really cute to call me that." He forced a smile and curled an arm around my waist.
"Oh, one of these couple's pet names." she chuckled and continued what she was doing. "I've registered for it. However, the party has been postponed."
"Postponed? Why?"
"A few things occurred, so the people hosting it decided to postpone it. We'll let you know if it happens again, sorry for the inconvenience." She smiled at him and her smile seemed way too cheerier than normal. I was certain she wasn't going to smile at me like that if Alpha Keegan wasn't here.
"Let's get going. We can just swim." He turned around and held my hand again after we left the receptionist's. "This place is surrounded by humans. I've not picked any werewolf or other creature's scent at all and due to the fact that a few people might be used to the fictional part of werewolf books, they might have a hint if you call me Alpha, so from now, I'm just Keegan, and you're Jane, no titles attached."
"Oh..." I nodded in understanding then a smile crawled up my face. "Keegan. I understand, Keegan. I'll just call you Keegan and nothing but Keegan." It felt so good to call him by his name and not be reminded that I was supposed to be serving him because of his title.
He chuckled. "Sure. My name sounds sweet coming from your lips." He smirked.
"I guess so."
"Now that there's no longer a party, let's just head to the shore of the beach and watch the stars orsomething.
I noticed a few people surrounded close to the shore. There were so many people and I assumed we could do with a few companies now. "Let's head over to them."
He scrunched his face up. "No, let's find somewhere else we can enjoy privacy. I don't really like being around so many people. We can still enjoy our time if we spend it alone."
"Don't act like an old man. It wouldn't hurt to interact." I tugged his arm.
He groaned but started heading in the direction of the people. As we got closer to them, we realized they were a lot more people than I thought. "Whoa, why are so many people up this late at night?"
"See? There's nothing to That looks like fun." He said and I followed the trail of his gaze so a couple of people sitting on chairs that were placed beside each other to form a large circle as they played board games.
"Board game?"
"Yes."
"No, I don't think I like them. They seem so boring to me." I shrugged.
"Really?! I love them, though I never really have the chance to play them with anyone but myself. Let's go. I'm sure it'll be fun." He held my hand and I reluctantly followed him.
"Can we join in?" he asked.
They glanced at him strangely at first then shrugged.
"Everyone's invited." Someone replied then two people scuttled their chairs to the sides to provide space for us to place our chairs on.
Still holding me, he sat down and made sure I had my seat before letting go of me and paired up with someone to play one of the games I couldn't identify.
I was trying to root for him to win but I didn't understand anything that was going on at all, so I stopped and kept staring around.
A few minutes had passed. Boredom was an understatement to what I was experiencing. It seemed like Alpha Keegan- Keegan had been too engrossed in the fun of the game because he was laughing and being lively with the guys around him. He had even drifted his attention to card games and was doing both while I sat here like a useless piece of rock. I bet he had even forgotten my existence.
I decided to get up and stretch my legs out before I died from the frustrating boredom.
"Where are you going?" he asked when I stood up. So he could notice me now?
"I just want to walk around."
"Okay," he looked like he was about to disagree with me leaving his presence as he glanced around then back at me, "be back soon else I'll come in search of you. Just stay safe."
I couldn't resist that he sounded so sweet when he was speaking out of care, so I smiled. "sure. Keep having fun."
With my hands locked behind me, I started going where my feet led me to, not paying attention to anyone. The way the breeze made my hair sway felt amazing and washed away every frustration from me. I felt so calm and the same excitement of being around the water, trees, the amazing feeling of nature sprang through me. I could enjoy the beauty of the environment without Alpha Keegan being around me. "Hey!" a deep masculine voice called.
I wasn't certain if he was speaking to me, so I glanced at the other side to see if there was someone else but it was just me. I placed my hand on my chest, questioning whether or not he was referring to me. "Yes, you." Another man beside him responded and he had the warmest smile ever.
Reluctantly, I walked over to them and waved, smiling. "Hey. Do you need anything?" "Yes." The first brown-haired man replied.
"We were just having a discussion and we saw an epitome of beauty shining her glory in our presence.' The other man added. He had really light blue eyes and sandy blonde hair.
"That's right. Then we thought to ourselves, 'How can we let such a goddess pass us by?" "
I could feel heat flushing to my cheeks at their compliment. "You're pulling my legs."
"No, we're not. I'm John," the brown haired introduced then pointed at the blonde, "and he's Jack. You are?"
"I'm Jane.' "Jane. Such a beautiful name for a beautiful woman." Jack replied and I smiled even more.
"Thank you." It felt so good to be complimented by people. Compliments always made me go crazy because I had grown up and had been used to a life of being abused and called ugly, stupid, wretched, multiple times by the pack members. "Are you with your partner?" John asked.
"Uh... why'd you assume I have a partner?" I drew my eyebrows together.
"Because most couples come here for their honeymoon." He replied.
"oh." Alpha Keegan wasn't my partner. "Nope. I'm not with my partner."
"Okay, that's cool. We were just about to grab a drink, do you care to join us?"
"Alcoholic?"
"No. John's too lame for anything alcoholic." Jack rolled his eyes.
"Great, I'd love to join you."
"Okay, I'd be right back." John said and left to grab the drink while I walked over to a rail. It was just a circular rail dug into the sand of the beach with a wooden floor at its foot. I had no idea why it was present but since I could lean my body's weight on it, I assumed it was still useful. Jack joined me and also leaned against the rail.
"So... where are you from?" "Not here." I simply put. Now that I knew almost everyone was human, I couldn't take the risk of spitting out Dark Stone pack if they didn't know about it.
"It's fine if you don't want to say it. John and I are musicians and we'll be hosting a concert soon." He slid his hand into his pocket and brought out two tickets. "You can come with a friend." "Oh, thanks." I chuckled and took the tickets from him.m, reading through the information printed on it. "At a club?" I asked rhetorically. "Yes." He had a proud smile on. "Will you come?"
"I'm on a vacation, so I'm open to explore different activities, I'll try my best to attend." I smiled. "That's great! We'd really appreciate it." John returned with three cups and gave it to Jack and me.
"Thank You." I collected and when they took their sips, I took a sip. I had no idea what it was but it had a sweet taste like a mixture of berries and pineapples. " It's good." I nodded.
John nodded and joined us to lean against the rail.
"She agreed to come to the concert." Jack said.
"Jack," he shook his head with a smile. "He invites everybody he sees, but since it's such a gorgeous woman like you, I'll forgive him."
I tried to stop myself from blushing avail but failed at it. "Tell me more about your music..." I asked, trying to start a conversation to prevent boredom.
Jack, with all excitement, began to lead the conversation. We spent the next few minutes chatting about them as musicians; I realized they were a bit famous. Jack said so many things about their journey as musicians while John added a few things here and there and didn't stop complimenting me.
They both cracked jokes and were really fun to talk to, though they were hitting on me a bit, they were still really sweet to talk to. It was obvious that John had interest in me because his compliments were way more than Jack's and he did try to hold my hands a few times, though not in an offensive manner or in a way that made me uncomfortable.
"...there was one time when we were in college and Jack..." he suddenly trailed off and was glancing behind me.
When I wanted to turn back to see what they were staring at, two strong arms came around my waist from behind. I'd have attacked the person but the familiar smell of the cologne and the forest scent that surrounded the embrace made me realize that it was Alpha Keegan. "Jane, I have been searching for you everywhere. I missed you." he planted a soft kiss on my cheek from behind.
Jack and John both had their eyebrows drawn in confusion at me. "I thought you came alone." John said.
"Yes," I shifted my gaze to Alpha Keegan. "I—"
"Came alone?" Alpha Keegan asked. "Yes," I lied again.
Alpha Keegan's gaze became very cold as he turned around and took his leave without another word. Why did I have to lie? It's not like they were going to kill me for lying to them that I came alone.
"Who is he?"
"He's a friend. We came here together." I let out a sigh.
"just a friend." John nodded, his voice was low in disappointment.
I spoke with them for the next few minutes but couldn't shake off the fact that I had ruined Alpha Keegan's good mood.
"I think I'll get going now, it's getting darker." I smiled.
"Aw, that's not so nice to hear." John pouted. "Can we at least have your phone number?" His phone suddenly started ringing and he had to excuse himself. "Bye." I waved at Jack.
When he waved back, I took my leave and returned to where Alpha Keegan was, with a heavy feeling in my chest. I felt guilty but didn't know exactly why; the moment I saw him, the guilt dried up and was replaced with fury. He was shirtless and had a few women around who were giggling like ugly rats and clinging to him while he just laughed with them.
Is he out of his mind? Why'd he stoop so low to be this close to these annoying women? My fists clenched. And here I was feeling bad for leaving his company when he was spending so much time with women! I felt like storming to them and yelling at them or something but I was too weak and knew that they were going to beat me up if I did anything that upsetted them, so I huffed.
Like he could hear me huff, he lifted his gaze to me and a sly smile tempted to form at the corner of his lips.
I immediately took my leave and headed to the beach through the stress of retrieving the key, so I headed house, but it was locked and I didn't want to go to a more isolated part of the beach that had poor illumination and sat on the bare sand, pulling my knees to my chest. Out of boredom, I began throwing small stones-like items into the water for the next few minutes.
"I just knew it'd be you throwing those." Alpha Keegan's voice drew me out of my spree of thoughts.
I ignored him and continued throwing the items.
"Are you hungry?" he asked as he sat beside me.
I still didn't respond and continued throwing the stones I could reach. Remembering that he was with other women made a new form of annoyance pump in me.
"You were mad that I was with other women and I also didn't like it that you were with other men that were touching you so affectionately. I think in order to enjoy our vacation to the fullest, we might have to make a few adjustments, like an act." He finally caught my attention.
"What act?" I quirked an eyebrow at him. "We should pretend to be a couple, like you're my girlfriend and I'm your boyfriend." He shrugged and stared in front of him.
It didn't make any sense as to why he'd be interested in pretending to be my boyfriend, but it sounded like a great idea to me. "Are there any terms or rules?"
"I don't know." He shrugged. "you can come up with those. It's just for fun. My life is really boring and I might need a break to at least understand what it's like to be in a relationship. I feel comfortable with you, so you'd be a perfect fit. Of course, if you don't want it, it won't happen. We'll both just forget I ever mentioned anything like that."
"Why wouldn't I agree to it? I'd also like to experience what it's like to be the girlfriend of... well... someone like you..." And it was also a perfect opportunity to get into his head.
"Then you agree? We're in a relationship now on and throughout the vacation." He smirked. "It's going to be an even longer vacation..." he trailed off.
