Chapter 36 Chapter 36
~ JANE ~
"I can't believe he actually agreed!" Scarlett squeaked, throwing a dress into her suitcase. "What sort of magic do you possess?"
"Magic? No, it's just Chloe's advice." I waved a hand over my face.
"Chloe? Who's Chloe?"
"An omega, from Night Shadow pack."
"Oh. That's new."
"She's such a great friend and I miss her so damn much." I smiled.
"I used to be your only friend. Shouldn't I be jealous now?" She chuckled.
"Why would you be?"
"Anyway, I don't know what magic Chloe possesses, but I'm very grateful to her. I can't believe grumpy Keegan would agree. I'm so excited!" she squealed.
"You're such a child."
"A child?" A frown formed on her face. "I'm the beta of this pack. Never call me a child." Her tone possessed a hint of joke, but she sounded very serious.
"I'm sorry Beta." I apologized.
"It's fine. I think Mrs. Bea needs your presence." She arranged more clothes into her suitcase. Didn't she realize she was packing way too much for just a weekend break?
"I'll head to her now. Bye." I took my leave from her bedroom and left for Mrs. Bea's chamber.
"Where the hell have you been? I'm hungry, as well as everyone else in the pack. Are you forgetting your role here?" she barked at me.
"I'm really sorry." I bowed my head. "I'll head to the kitchen now."
"And don't forget to clean everywhere, also water the garden, and wash the ground floor's bathrooms.
I wondered how she expected me to complete all of that in such a short time, yet I nodded. "I'll do just as you've ordered."
"Get out. Your presence is contaminating my room."
I took my leave. I started with cooking and while the food was on fire, I quickly ran outside to water the garden, trying to be as quick as I could to avoid burning down the kitchen. The memory of last time I had made the food burn still hunted me: I had been insulted by the pack members and had been beaten up by three hungry Werewolves who had come from a journey without food for three days. There was no way I could face that torture again.
"I have a lot to do." Halfway through watering the garden, I dropped the water can, contemplating on whether or not to leave it till next time. "There's still so much left. It's not like she's going to realize if I don't water the garden properly."
"But I'll notice."
I squeaked and turned around, heaving a sigh of relief when I noticed it was Casper. "You almost scared me to death."
"I'm sorry." He chuckled, picking the water can back up. "Since you have a lot to do, I can at least help you with this."
"No, please don't do that." I tried to collect it from him but held the can farther than my hands could reach. "Please. It's against the rules if someone helps me with my work. Mrs. Bea would literally kill me."
"Stop being so dramatic. She won't find out. I'm only offering assistance. This garden is a very special place for me to relax, so I feel obliged to take care of it and not let you ruin it out of hurry." He teased me.
I chuckled. "I wasn't going to ruin it, but thank you so much."
"It's no problem." He winked, "as long as you don't forget our little date as promised."
"Date?" I lifted a brow at him.
"Yup. You agreed to meet up for coffee or tea some other time. It doesn't have to be romantic, just a friendship date." He said with a playful roll of his eyes.
"Oh, okay." I smiled. "It's fine. You can let me know the date. Here's my phone number." He looked surprised to know I had a phone. I exchanged phone numbers with him, just as an excuse to have more people in my contact list.
"I'll call you. Bye."
"Bye." I waved back and took my leave, running back to the kitchen before the food burned.
After serving the meal for everyone, I served Alpha Keegan's meal on a tray and carried it to his room. He wasn't in, so I dropped it and went in search of him before his food became cold; he didn't like it when his food was cold.
Alpha Keegan was nowhere in sight, but I looked further.
I bumped into someone really hard, our heads bashed together from the force and hurt me really bad.
"Can't you see?!" Luna Kate barked at me, rubbing her head.
How could I be so stupid to bump into her? "Oh my gosh, Luna, I'm so sorry." Afraid she was going to kill me, I attempted to touch her forehead to check if it was okay.
She slapped my hand away from her face "Are you out of your mind? How dare you try to touch me? Are you forgetting your place?" she raised her voice.
"No, I'm not. I'm sorry." I bowed my head, my hands began to quiver.
"Sorry? Will sorry fix your mistake or get rid of my bump, you stupid mutt."
"I'm really sorry."
"Don't say sorry!" She hollered, sending a hard slap to my face. It felt like my head had been hit with a truck as tears trickled in my eyes. Had this woman always been this violent or was it just to me? "What's going on here?" Alpha Keegan walked up from behind me, his face was contorted into a terrible frown and reddened as he glanced at me. "Why did you hit her?" He asked Luna, his voice was on the verge of being raised.
"This stupid omega bumped into me."
"It was accidental. You shouldn't have hit her." His hands balled into fists.
She chortled in disbelief. "Are you taking the side of a useless pack member? She's the omega. Why'd it matter if she's hit or beaten by anyone? Have you lost your mind?"
"She's still recovering. Don't try to worsen things." He said through gritted teeth.
"Recovering from what exactly?"
"This shouldn't happen again." He warned her and grabbed my hand, pulling me away and stormed out of her sight and to his room, slamming the door. "Why were you in that part of the pack house?" he hollered.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't... I thought you'd be there. I was searching for you, I already served your meal and didn't want it to be cold. I didn't-" my sob interrupted my speech.
"Are you crying?' His voice was calmer though he still sounded pissed off.
My cheeks burned so bad from her slap. Did he expect me to laugh at it?
He ran his hand over his hair and sighed. "It's fine. It was just an accident and Luna Kate can be temperamental sometimes." His voice was gentle this time. For some reason, it made my tears increase. " Geez, you're such a baby." He cupped my face and wiped my tears with his thumb. "It wasn't your fault. Have something to eat then head to bed, okay?" Was this an imposter? How could he sound so sweet? His amber eyes also expressed genuine concern. How was this possible?!
I nodded and wiped the rest of my tears with the back of my sweater. "Thank you."
"Just avoid her, okay?"
I nodded and left the room.
"Why does her tears affect me this much?" I heard him groan. My tears affected Alpha Keegan? That was new.
Alpha Keegan's gentle side was very different and felt like an adventure I wanted to explore.
