Chapter 88 Thank You for Feeding
"We've only known each other for just over a week. Why are you so sure I'm not like what those posts say?"
Rebecca said with a smile on her face: "My family really did go bankrupt, but I moved into Star Apartments, and you've seen the fancy dinner my boyfriend sent over. Maybe I really am being kept by a rich guy."
Lucy fell silent.
After a long while, she looked at Rebecca seriously and said: "Becca, you don't need to test me! I said I believe you, and I really mean it. I can't explain why, but I trust my own eyes and my heart."
"I grew up in the mountains and don't understand all those social games. But my grandma once said that a person's eyes can't lie. I trust my eyes, so I trust you!"
"Besides..."
Lucy changed her tone, "Time reveals a person's true character, right? Whether you're good or bad, we'll see as we go along. For now, I'm enjoying good food and drinks, so I'm not losing anything. If I ever find out you're a bad person, I'll definitely turn around and run immediately. When you think about it, I'm getting the better deal here—no matter what, I can't lose!"
Rebecca smiled with her eyes crinkling, then pointed behind Lucy, "Lucy, I think your chicken cutlet is burning."
"Becca!"
Lucy screamed and turned around to rescue her fried chicken cutlet.
When there was a knock at the door, Rebecca went to open it. The woman who had come yesterday smiled gently, "Miss, I'm here to deliver dinner."
Star Apartments had simple kitchen facilities. They didn't have to squeeze into the crowded cafeteria and could eat whatever they wanted—convenient and comfortable.
Rebecca and Lucy had agreed that from now on, they'd eat dinner in their dorm and not go to the cafeteria anymore.
She had casually mentioned it to Frederick, not knowing whether he misunderstood her meaning or was worried she wouldn't eat well.
After thanking her, Rebecca took the bag and carried it inside.
The bag had the Starlight Restaurant logo on it. When she opened the dozens of pristine, decoratively carved food containers, they were all filled with the restaurant's signature dishes.
Small portions, but many varieties.
At a glance, there was definitely no way two people could finish it all.
Lucy's eyes lit up, "Becca, how much does your boyfriend think you can eat?"
Rebecca smiled, "Why don't you ask your boyfriend if he wants to come eat together, or you could send him a portion?"
"Really? Really? Is that really okay?"
Lucy jumped excitedly and went to call Ryan.
After Ryan declined several times, he said he'd come over. While waiting for him, Rebecca took her phone and curled up in the bean bag chair.
Frederick was still in his office when he received Rebecca's Facebook message.
Without Rebecca, Pinewood Mansion felt as empty as a gorgeous cage, cold and cheerless.
Rather than go home, Frederick preferred to stay at the office.
His phone dinged. Frederick glanced over and saw the message on the screen: [Thanks for the food!]
The darkening sky outside the window seemed to become enchanting and captivating because of Rebecca's Facebook message.
Frederick stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window with his phone.
[You're welcome!]
