Chapter 71: A Precise, Ruthless Strike
Everyone in Empire City's elite circles knew about the Getty family's bankruptcy.
And the fact that she had begged those fake friends for money had become a joke in their circle, brought up at every gathering.
As if not being able to witness Rebecca begging in person was such a great pity.
Now running into Rebecca again, how could these people pass up such a perfect opportunity?
The women asked nosily, "Rebecca, did you really marry an old man? An old man's stamina definitely can't compare to Mr. Johnson's, right? So tell us, can he satisfy you?"
The men's gazes were heated.
Although Rebecca was wearing a thick down jacket that revealed nothing of her figure, just looking at that face was enough to make their hearts itch.
Not to mention they'd seen Rebecca's body at past gatherings when she was by Dennis's side.
Deep V-neck temptation.
Innocent in cocktail dresses.
A 20-year-old girl, just blooming—curves in all the right places, legs for days.
Most alluring was that slender waist under Dennis's hand.
Before, they couldn't touch her out of respect for Dennis's status.
But now the Getty family was gone, and Rebecca was a woman with no one to rely on, yet she had that face that was both pure and seductive.
When opportunity knocks at your door, you'd be a fool not to take it!
"Rebecca, if you're not getting enough, make sure to contact us... We used to see each other all the time, so we'd be happy to help you out with this little favor."
"Exactly, haha."
Mocking laughter erupted all around.
Rebecca pulled Alex into her arms, covering his ears so he wouldn't hear a single word.
"Azalea!"
Rebecca turned to look at Azalea, who stood with her arms crossed, watching like an outsider. "I don't think I've ever wronged you. Do you really have to bully me like this?"
"So what if I am bullying you? What are you going to do about it?"
Azalea said coldly.
Thinking of all those years of hearing "Why can't you be more like Rebecca," Azalea found everything about Rebecca annoying.
To rebel against her parents and show she didn't like piano or dancing, she'd even cut her hair short and gotten tattoos, turning herself into a hip-hop tomboy.
Which led to the man she liked treating her like one of the guys.
Thinking about this made Azalea's teeth itch with anger.
Seeing Rebecca looking around anxiously, Azalea smiled smugly. "How about this—you beg me? Admit you were wrong, be our goalie and play a few rounds with us, and I'll let you go. How's that?"
Behind them on the ice, a net had already been set up, and several men and women had pulled out hockey sticks.
Rather than curling, it was more like they wanted to play baseball.
What would happen to Rebecca as the goalie was easy to imagine.
Rebecca refused without hesitation. "You want me to play with you, so I should just play? Azalea, I'm being polite to you because we're in the same circle and we'll keep running into each other—I don't want to make things too ugly!"
"Alex, we're leaving!"
She roughly shoved past the people blocking her way. Rebecca grabbed Alex's hand and started walking.
When her arm was grabbed and she was dragged back, Rebecca gritted her teeth and bit down hard on the person's hand. The moment they let go, she grabbed a baseball bat from the ground.
Beside her, Alex seemed to see this as a signal to charge, and bit another person.
With thick winter clothes on, no matter how hard he bit, it only caused a little pain.
The person being bitten grimaced and reached out to grab Alex by the throat. "You little brat, let go!"
With his throat being squeezed, Alex released his bite.
Before the person could catch their breath, gasps of alarm rang out beside them along with a dark shadow. When they turned back, they saw the baseball bat swinging toward them.
A precise, accurate, vicious strike!
Their head was buzzing.
Stars danced before their eyes.
The left side of their face swelled up almost instantly.
The person who'd been hit swayed unsteadily, pointing at Rebecca with a twisted expression. "Rebecca, I'm going to kill you!"
Dead silence fell all around.
