Chapter 64 Finished, Seems Even Angrier!
Rebecca's lips were soft and cool.
She leaned in and kissed him, pulling away immediately after the briefest touch.
When she looked at him again, her eyes were anxious, like a squirrel caught by its owner after stealing pine cones, not knowing whether to run or stay.
Her voice was soft too, "Frederick, I'm sorry, please don't be mad anymore, okay?"
Frederick wasn't mad.
It was just "Uncle Frederick"—what was the big deal?
He wasn't that petty.
But thinking about how she was already Mrs. Windsor yet still kept putting herself in the position of Dennis's fiancée made Frederick inexplicably irritated.
And now, his mood that had been somewhat soothed by her careful attempt to placate him instantly clouded over again.
Thinking about how she used to coax Dennis in the same sweet, soft way, the gloom in Frederick's heart spread like the surrounding darkness, then showed through his eyes and brows.
"Rebecca..."
Frederick's eyes turned cold and sharp, "Who taught you that?"
Rebecca froze.
She'd thought doing what he liked would make him feel better.
But why did it seem... not only did it not work, but it made things worse?
Oh no!
He seemed even angrier!
"I, I..."
Instinctively stepping back, Rebecca grabbed the cold railing to steady herself and muttered indignantly, "I taught myself!"
She didn't know if it was because the cabin had risen high and the air was thin.
Or if she was intimidated by Frederick's imposing presence.
Meeting Frederick's cold, dark eyes, Rebecca felt like she could barely breathe.
Alex grabbed her hand. Rebecca looked down to see Alex's eyes bright, pointing out the window.
Standing high, you can see far.
The cabin they were in had risen to the highest point of the Ferris wheel.
Looking out, the vast Empire City was connected by countless scattered points of light, reflecting against the pitch-black sky above.
The sky was overhead.
The galaxy was beneath their feet.
People within it were as small as dust.
Rebecca stared out the window in a daze, and the knot in her heart suddenly loosened.
Life is only a few short decades. That she and Frederick met, got to know each other, and became husband and wife—what great fate that was.
No matter what, the fact that he'd helped her was undeniable, and she'd secretly resolved to do well in this role.
Thinking back to how he'd said sincerely the night before that they were husband and wife and shouldn't keep guessing about each other.
Rebecca turned to look at Frederick, "Frederick, I apologize for my slip of the tongue just now. It won't happen again. I won't do it anymore, because the past is over. Now you're my husband."
"Also, I thought you'd like the way I expressed my apology, so I..."
Glancing guiltily at Alex, Rebecca continued, "If you don't like it, I won't do it again."
Frederick's eyes paused slightly, "So, you used to express apologies this way too?"
Her eyes went wide. After a long moment, Rebecca belatedly realized why he was angry.
So he thought she was using the same way she'd coaxed Dennis to coax him?
A jerk like Dennis didn't deserve it!
The words "Monday morning was my first kiss" were on the tip of her tongue, but Rebecca didn't say them. She suddenly felt too tired to explain.
"No."
Shaking her head, Rebecca turned and sat down next to Alex. The two of them pressed against the glass window and looked at the night view.
Rebecca's emotions shifted extremely quickly.
One second, she was sincere and wanted to communicate with him.
The next second, she didn't want to say anything to him anymore.
Keenly sensing that she was unhappy, but not knowing what he'd done to upset her again.
Frederick frowned, looking troubled.
