Chapter 55: Really Want to Pounce on Him and Bite Him?
Rebecca froze.
Frederick froze too.
Before him was Rebecca's panicked face, eyes wide open, forgetting to react.
In his mind flashed that milky-scented kiss at the gates of Empire University on Monday morning.
Though it was just a light peck like a dragonfly touching water, all his senses seemed to gather on his lips in that moment, allowing him to easily capture the soft sweetness that belonged uniquely to Rebecca.
And now, that familiar feeling came rushing back.
Before Frederick could react, Rebecca snapped out of it, lowering her head and shrinking back.
A heartbeat sounded—whether it was his or hers, he couldn't tell.
Rebecca only knew that Frederick above her was holding his breath.
Even so, she could still feel Frederick's heavy gaze on her.
He couldn't possibly think she had turned around on purpose to seduce him, could he?
"Frederick..."
Trying to ease the awkwardness, Rebecca asked in a low voice, "What did you want to say?"
He had originally leaned over to catch her pretending to sleep and make her turn around.
He hadn't expected this kind of accident.
Pressing down with his hand, Frederick turned to lie properly, looking back at Rebecca. "Rebecca, can you tell me why you're angry?"
Rebecca looked up.
Frederick said in a low voice, "Is it because you think your singing isn't good, and I clearly heard it but said nothing, letting you embarrass yourself in there, and then laughed at you when you came out?"
"You..."
Just thinking about how he really had heard her and really had done that, Rebecca forgot all about what had just happened moments ago.
Sitting up abruptly, Rebecca glared at Frederick with flushed cheeks. "Didn't you laugh? I saw it!"
If only she had recorded it on her phone, Rebecca thought huffily.
Then she saw amusement appear in Frederick's eyes.
Still laughing???
She wanted to pounce on him and bite him!
Rebecca bit her lip.
Then she saw Frederick's smile deepen. "Becca, how can you be so adorable?"
Rebecca froze.
Frederick put away his smile, only looking at her with warm eyes. "I had just lain down and picked up my tablet when you came out. I didn't hear a single word, I swear!"
As he spoke, Frederick raised one hand. "If I'm lying, let me never earn another cent."
For a businessman like Frederick, not earning money could be considered a pretty terrible punishment.
Rebecca blinked, instinctively feeling relieved.
Then she saw Frederick smile. "It was when you started explaining that your singing was good that I guessed... The reason I laughed was because you gave yourself away. I thought Mrs. Windsor was very cute—I wasn't laughing at you at all."
"Becca, are you satisfied with this explanation?"
Frederick's eyes were sincere.
Calling her "Becca" over and over.
Rebecca's heart, which had finally calmed down, started racing again.
Thinking back to what had just happened, he hadn't even said anything yet, and she couldn't explain herself clearly and just got angry.
Rebecca suddenly felt that her earlier self—huffily kicking off her shoes and turning off the lights—had been ridiculous.
"Good then!"
Rebecca stubbornly dropped that line, then turned around, pulled up the blanket, all in one smooth motion. "Good night!"
"But I'm not finished talking yet."
Frederick's plaintive voice came from behind her.
Rebecca was speechless.
She wanted to take the initiative and say, "Can't you just say everything at once?"
But then felt she was being unreasonable.
Rebecca sighed helplessly and turned to look at Frederick. "What else?"
