Chapter 20 The Pinnacle of Temptation
Rebecca thought that once Frederick left, she could finally get a good night's sleep.
But as soon as she fell asleep, she was plunged into nightmares again.
She didn't know how long it had been, but a faint, cool, and tranquil fragrance filled her nose, and she felt herself being enveloped in warmth. Struggling, Rebecca felt as if she had emerged from the suffocating depths of the ocean.
Warmth washed over her, like the gentle rays of the sun, and Rebecca drifted into a deep sleep.
When she opened her eyes again, Rebecca snuggled comfortably.
In the next moment, she froze completely.
If the last time she clung to Frederick's pajamas had been mortifying, this time was beyond embarrassing.
Frederick was lying on his back, even in sleep his posture was perfect.
And she was clinging to his waist, her cheek pressed against his chest.
One leg was shamelessly draped over his.
Should she pretend to stay asleep and wait for Frederick to wake up and release her?
Or should she quietly disentangle herself while he was still asleep?
Her mind raced for a moment, and Rebecca blinked, slowly relaxing her body.
She yawned softly and took the opportunity to stretch, transforming from an octopus-like tangle into a straight stick, then naturally rolled over.
The warmth turned to chill, and Rebecca shivered instinctively.
In the next moment, Frederick turned over, his long arm wrapped around her, pulling her back into his embrace.
Rebecca was speechless.
Frederick's hold was firm, as if she was a giant stuffed animal.
Her back was pressed tightly against his chest, and within half a minute, a thin layer of sweat formed on Rebecca's skin.
Yet, she didn't dare to move.
Frederick had come home very late last night, and she didn't know when he had returned.
If he had just fallen asleep and she woke him up...
He would be angry, right?
A responsible worker would never start the day by angering the boss.
Rebecca cautiously inched backward, reaching out to gently lift Frederick's arm wrapped around her, planning to swiftly get out of bed.
As long as she moved quickly enough, she could leave without waking him.
The ideal was beautiful.
The reality was harsh.
As Rebecca moved back, Frederick's arm tightened, pulling her even closer.
Rebecca: !
With her eyes closed, her hearing became more acute.
Frederick clearly heard Rebecca's helpless sigh, but she hadn't given up struggling.
As she moved, the faint fragrance on Rebecca's body became more pronounced, mingling with the sandalwood scent clinging to him, creating a new aroma.
Like a perfect catalyst, when Frederick opened his eyes, there was a dark undercurrent in them.
Rebecca sensed it almost immediately.
She knew that morning was not the time to provoke a man.
But the problem was, she hadn't provoked him!
Facing away from him, she couldn't see whether Frederick was awake or not, but she could clearly feel the change behind her.
Rebecca instinctively held her breath.
A blush spread from her cheeks to her neck, disappearing under her pajamas.
But for Frederick, it was the ultimate temptation.
If he could, Frederick would have loved to make love to her right then and there; after all, she was now officially Mrs. Windsor.
But the Rebecca in his arms, who had been soft and fragrant, was now as stiff as a board.
He couldn't help but think of Peter's words, "Treat her well, and with enough time, even a stone can be warmed."
Frederick slowly released her.
Without a word, Frederick got out of bed and went to the bathroom.
As he left, the room that had been so warm instantly cooled down.
Rebecca let out a breath, feeling a mix of emotions she couldn't quite understand.
He must really love Alex's mom, right?
Even though she had been gone for so long.
Even though his body had clearly shown his desire.
He still decisively pulled away.
Given Frederick's status and position, he had remained faithful to a woman who had been gone for years.
And she, who had known Dennis since childhood and was engaged to him, had seen their relationship fall apart before she could even ask to borrow a hundred million dollars.
Thinking of Alex's mom and then of herself, Rebecca smiled bitterly in the darkness.
So, the gap between people can be this vast!
She really... envied her!
