Chapter 171 You Speak, I Change
The Maybach headed toward Empire University. Rebecca took a bite of her sandwich and glared at Frederick.
In the driver's seat, Frederick looked like he was in a pretty good mood.
When Rebecca shot him another glare, Frederick glanced at the traffic light changing from yellow to red and smoothly stopped the car in front of the crosswalk.
Then, with a completely serious expression, he looked at Rebecca and reasoned with her, "Becca, I said I'd give you a massage, and I did, right?"
Rebecca paused and said nothing.
Last night, he'd squeezed her waist so hard she thought it would break. Rebecca had assumed waking up with a sore back was inevitable.
Surprisingly, there was no discomfort at all.
Even the places that should naturally feel uncomfortable felt especially fresh and comfortable because of the ointment he'd applied.
Except for not getting quite enough sleep, everything else was fine.
Frederick pressed on, "I said I'd let you sleep well, and I didn't bother you, did I?"
But who could have guessed that what woke her up wasn't an alarm clock, but him?
Anyway, this house was impossible to live in long-term.
Rebecca took a deep breath, met Frederick's smiling gaze, and smiled slightly, "You did great! It's just that..."
Changing her tone, Rebecca sighed, "The only problem is that I'm too weak-willed and can't handle temptation. To give my all for finals, I've decided that starting today, I'm going into retreat to study!"
"Frederick..."
Pointing at the traffic light that had turned green, Rebecca smiled sweetly and obediently, "So, see you after exams!"
Even though it was already Wednesday.
Even though exams started next Monday and would be done by Wednesday.
But thinking about not being able to kiss or hold her for the next week, Frederick suddenly felt he'd gone too far this morning!
"Becca, I was wrong!"
"Apology rejected!"
"Fine, then you tell me how to punish me?"
"Punishment? The punishment is I'm not coming home this weekend!"
Watching Rebecca act like she'd won this round, even the way she closed the car door, showing carefree confidence, Frederick felt the helplessness of shooting himself in the foot.
And this was just the beginning.
At noon, he sent messages - she didn't reply.
In the evening, he video called - she didn't answer.
Gone were those playful or mischievous emojis from before.
Gone too was that clear, pleasant voice the moment a video call connected.
Looking around, Frederick felt like everyone he saw had an annoying face.
Looking up again, it was barely Thursday.
Thinking about how this awful feeling would last until next Wednesday, Frederick's already gloomy mood was written all over his face.
In room 520 at Star Apartments, when Lucy looked over again, Rebecca asked with amusement, "What's up? Am I especially cute today?"
"Becca, did you and your boyfriend fight?"
Lucy asked softly, "You didn't break up, did you?"
"Just a little disagreement. Why?"
Rebecca looked confused.
Lucy felt a bit embarrassed.
The gossip on the campus forum had died down, but Rebecca's bold announcement post was still pinned at the top, going strong.
The comments below were all people making wishes, hoping their own love could be like Rebecca and her boyfriend's, lasting forever.
Lucy had also made a wish under a fake account.
Hoping she and Ryan could succeed in their studies, live simply and peacefully, and be happy together until old age.
But thinking about those calls and video chats these past two days that got hung up as soon as they rang, Lucy felt inexplicably uneasy.
"We really didn't break up! We're doing great!"
Rebecca sighed, picked up her phone, and right in front of Lucy, dialed the number saved as "Boyfriend."
