Chapter 14 They Really Are a Perfect Match!
The sky darkened, and Frederick stood under the porch, enveloped in a large shadow.
His presence grew colder.
Rebecca suddenly understood why he wanted to marry her.
Over the years, she had heard countless rumors in their social circle, yet never once had she heard that Frederick had been married.
So, Alexander must be an illegitimate child.
He was Mr. Windsor, carrying the stigma of having an illegitimate child.
She was a bankrupt heiress with nothing to her name and a mother who was mentally unstable.
He had money but lacked love.
She had no money, but she had plenty of love.
They were indeed a perfect match!
“Frederick…”
Rebecca ran joyfully to Frederick’s side, looking up at him. “I promised Grandma I’d treat you well. Don’t worry, since you don’t mind me, I won’t mind you either. From now on, let’s be good to each other, okay?”
Frederick stared at Rebecca, silent.
Was there anything about him that deserved to be minded?
Though he didn’t know what had happened, Rebecca’s bright smile seemed to indicate that the burden she carried had lightened significantly, and she wasn’t as afraid of him as before.
His gaze passed over her eyes, shining like stars, and Frederick nodded, “Okay.”
Originally, he planned to return to Pinewood Mansion after dinner.
But during dinner, Frederick changed his mind.
“Grandma, the chef here must be a master of gourmet cuisine, right? The food is just too delicious, especially this meat… You should try it!”
If Rebecca at Pinewood Mansion’s dining table was a graceful heiress, then the Rebecca beside him now was like a little foodie, constantly eating and even serving dishes to Frederick and Elizabeth.
Elizabeth, pleased, ate more than usual.
After finishing the meal, putting down her utensils, she met Elizabeth’s knowing smile.
Frederick cleared his throat, “The roads are slippery because of the snow. We won’t go back tonight. Grandma, Becca and I will get up early tomorrow to join you for breakfast.”
“Good, good…”
Elizabeth’s eyes narrowed into slits as she smiled.
Rebecca stared at Frederick in a daze.
Becca.
He called her Becca.
Back when the Getty family was around, her parents used to call her that affectionately.
Now Henry was dead.
Alexa had gone mad.
Rebecca couldn’t remember the last time someone called her Becca with such intimacy.
No, she remembered.
In her dream last night, Alexa held her and kept saying, “Becca, don’t be afraid!”
When she snapped back to reality, she realized Elizabeth had left.
Meeting Frederick’s gaze, she realized she had been staring at him blankly, and he had caught her.
Rebecca quickly lowered her eyes and followed him out of the dining room.
It was early evening, and the sky was dim.
Thinking about going back to the bedroom so early, the idea of awkwardly staring at each other made Rebecca desperately search for a topic.
“Frederick, shall we take a walk in the backyard?”
“Not cold?”
“...Right. Frederick, aren’t you going to your study to work?”
“It’s the weekend.”
“...The study isn’t just for work, right? You have a child who needs your attention. You should spend time with him; I don’t mind!”
As soon as she finished speaking, Frederick abruptly stopped.
Rebecca hadn’t reacted yet when Frederick turned around.
Feeling nervous, her foot slipped.
Rebecca, with her mouth half-open, fell straight into Frederick’s arms.
