Chapter 112 Our Son.

Chapter 112 Our Son.
Linda’s POV

Getting home furious, Linda dropped her bag on the couch and paced the living room like a caged animal. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as anger, fear, and determination collided inside her. She grabbed her phone with trembling fingers and dialed Liam’s number. The call rang once, twice, then went unanswered. She tried again, jaw clenched, nails digging into her palm. Nothing. Each unanswered ring only fueled her resolve. If Maureen would not act, then she would.

Then she remembered Scarlet.

Linda paused, breathing hard, before scrolling through her contacts. She had saved Scarlet’s number during the proposal preparations, never imagining she would need it this soon. Without wasting another second, she dialed. The call connected almost immediately.

“Hello?” Scarlet answered.

Relief washed over Linda, but she did not waste time on pleasantries. She explained everything in a rush—her fear for Maureen, her frustration, her desperation to save her best friend’s relationship. She admitted she did not know where Liam lived and that he would not take her calls. Her voice cracked as she asked for help, confessing she could not do this alone.

Scarlet listened in silence, then agreed.

The next day, Linda met Scarlet at a popular café. Linda barely touched her drink, her fingers wrapped tightly around the cup as if it were anchoring her to reality. Scarlet’s driver soon arrived, and they drove together to Liam’s house. Linda’s heart pounded the entire way. When they arrived, fortune was on their side—Liam was home.

The moment Liam set eyes on Linda, recognition flickered across his face. Before she could speak, he said calmly, “I have forgiven Maureen. I just need time to process all this.”

Linda shook her head immediately. “I’m not here for that,” she replied. She paused, holding his gaze, then blurted it out before fear could stop her. “Sam is your son.”

Liam burst into laughter, disbelief spilling from him. Scarlet’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Who is Sam?” she asked.

“Maureen’s son,” Linda replied quickly.

She took a breath and pressed on. She explained that Maureen herself had only discovered the truth the previous day, after Liam’s friends teased him about a one-night stand six years ago at 101 Club Arena. That girl had been Maureen. They had searched for Liam afterward but could not find him. Linda reminded him of his port-wine stain birthmark, and how Maureen had remembered it clearly. By pure chance, Sam had the same mark on his left thigh.

Linda reached into her bag, her hands steady now. She pulled out a small ziplock bag and held it out. Inside was a comb. “This is Sam’s,” she said. “There are strands of his hair in it. You can run a DNA test to confirm.”

Silence followed.

Liam and Scarlet stood frozen, stunned. Liam remembered that night vividly, but the idea that Maureen was that girl was something he could barely comprehend. Still, doubt had already begun to crumble. Reluctantly, he agreed to the test.

The three of them went to the hospital together. Linda waited outside the lab, arms folded, heart hammering. By the next day, the result came back. Ninety-nine percent. Liam was the biological father.

He called Linda immediately, his voice shaking as he told her the news. Then he drove straight to Maureen’s place of work, urgency pushing him beyond caution. He needed no permission. He was friends with several of the higher-ups in the company.

He barged into Maureen’s office, ignored the shocked stares, and pulled her into a tight hug.

Maureen’s POV

I was shocked and stunned, frozen in place as Liam’s arms wrapped tightly around me. He hadn’t been picking my calls, neither had he replied to my messages, and everything about his silence had screamed that he wanted nothing to do with me again. Yet here he was, holding me as if he was afraid I might disappear. The warmth of his body against mine made me uneasy, my heart pounding wildly. I tried to pull back, but he tightened his grip, burying his face briefly against my shoulder like he needed reassurance that I was real.

“Why didn’t you want to tell me?” he asked, his voice low but strained.

“Tell you what?” I asked, my words muffled against his chest as my hands hovered awkwardly at his sides.

“About Sam,” he said, pulling back just enough to look at me. His eyes were bright, almost overwhelmed. “About our child.”

My jaw dropped. I stared at him, my mind scrambling to catch up with reality. “How… how did you know?” I asked, my voice barely more than a whisper.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair before resting it at the small of my back again. “What matters now is that I know,” he said gently. “I know we have a child together, even if you didn’t want to tell me.”

He cupped my face, forcing me to meet his gaze. “I love you, Maureen. I do. But I felt betrayed when you kept something this big from me. You should have told me. I would still have loved you the same. Having a child isn’t a disease.” His thumb brushed against my cheek. “I love you more than you think.”

“Really?” I asked, my voice shaking as tears blurred my vision.

“Yes,” he answered without hesitation.

The tears spilled then. “I was just scared,” I admitted, my shoulders sagging. “Your mum… I—I…..”

“Shhh,” he interrupted softly, pulling me back into his arms. His hand moved soothingly along my back. “It’s okay. We’ve got this.”

I didn’t say anything else. I simply stood there in his embrace, breathing him in, letting his steady presence calm the storm inside me. Around us, the office felt too small, and too quiet, as if the world had paused to watch us. I could feel his heart beating against mine, strong and certain.

Still, fear lingered beneath the surface. My fingers clutched the back of his jacket, torn between relief and uncertainty. His mother, the secrets, the months I had spent protecting Sam alone—all of it weighed heavily on my chest. Yet Liam held me like someone who was not planning to walk away.

He leaned back slightly and pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead. His eyes softened, filled with determination. “You don’t have to do this alone anymore,” he said quietly.

I nodded against him, even though doubt still whispered in my mind.
