Chapter 219 Alberta, Is That You?

Chapter 219 Alberta, Is That You?

Bullets zipped through the air, their hums mixing with the heat sparks.

Lawrence, his security team, and Murray had developed seamless coordination. The attackers couldn't break through their line of fire. Fortunately, the four beasts they lured in had thick hides; bullets could only wound, not kill, effectively stalling the battle.

"Lawrence, if we keep this up, we're gonna run out of bullets," Kurt said, his voice tense.

"Then kill 'em and take theirs," Lawrence replied, shooting a man in the head. He then aimed at a charging, enraged, beastly ram. The bullet grazed the ram's eye, failing to inflict serious injury and instead enraging it further, causing it to leap and charge more violently.

"Parker, Mr. Marshall, call me a beauty, and I'll help you out," Helena teased from her hiding spot, clearly enjoying the show.

Lawrence was focused on the fight, but Parker laughed and called out, "Beauty!" Helena responded with a playful "Hey!" and looked expectantly at Lawrence.

"Not necessary," Lawrence said without turning around.

"Such resolve," Helena said, disappointed.

Just then, the iron gate of the cargo passage Kirstie had passed through suddenly opened, causing everyone to cease fire and look over.

A nearby player excitedly ran towards the gate, only to turn back in panic at the last moment. Two seconds later, three mechanical beings emerged.

"What are those things?" a player who hadn't participated in the fifth round of the game asked, puzzled.

Someone tentatively fired a shot. The bullet bounced off the mechanical being, leaving only a shallow mark.

"Lawrence..." Kurt began to ask for Lawrence's opinion, but Lawrence sternly ordered, "Stay focused!"

Kurt quickly complied, realizing he had forgotten about the beasts still attacking them.

"Parker, do you know what those things are?" Helena asked Parker.

Parker, holding a gun in one hand and protecting Roderick with the other, explained that the mechanical beings were humanoid weapons, an upgraded version of the ghouls they had seen on the cruise ship. He kept his eyes on the mechanical beings as they approached with clear intent, killing the beastly ram with a single punch and driving away the remaining beasts, surrounding them in the blink of an eye.

Parker fell silent.

Sensing danger, Helena quickly hid.

Lawrence, holding his gun, steadily retreated. A broadcast announcement echoed through the seventh district, followed by Yasmin's long-missed voice:

"The Isle Heart Authority has issued an emergency alert: The underwater volcano near Paradise Island is showing signs of increased activity and is expected to erupt within the next 48 hours, causing severe natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic ash fallout.

The Isle Heart Authority has no emergency plan in place. The outer port is now open, and the inner port will open in five hours. All residents on the island are advised to prepare for immediate evacuation."

The announcement repeated three times. When it ended, everyone seemed to freeze for several seconds before reacting.

"A volcanic eruption? This has to be a dream!"

"It must be real. Remember the typhoon?"

"Damn it! I should never have joined this stupid game! I got nothing, and now I might lose my life!"

Parker and Kurt, equally stunned, looked to their leader, Lawrence.

Lawrence frowned, looking up at the mechanical beings. One of them clumsily waved, then moved forward two meters and waved again.

"What's it doing?" Parker asked, his concern about the mechanical beings overshadowed by the news of the volcanic eruption. "Is it asking us to follow it?"

A hint of a smile appeared in Lawrence's eyes. "Alberta, is that you?"

The mechanical being nodded in response, controlled by Alberta.

Parker was shocked.

"Wow..." Roderick ran out from behind Lawrence. "Auntie, did you transform?"

The mechanical being shook its head.

"Where are you now?" Lawrence asked, picking up his nephew and looking at the mechanical being.

Alberta, watching through the camera, could see the gentleness in Lawrence's eyes. She wanted to tell him everything, but the mechanical being, essentially a weapon, lacked a voice and could only perform simple commands like shaking its head, nodding, raising its hand, and moving.

"Why isn't Alberta speaking?" Parker asked, worried.

"Mechanical beings can't talk," Lawrence said decisively. "Pack up. We're leaving in three minutes!"

He took out his phone and communicator, both of which were non-functional, indicating that the defense mode hadn't been activated yet.

Since Alberta could control the mechanical being and the broadcast had followed its appearance, Lawrence guessed that Alberta might be at the Isle Heart Authority.

Yasmin, watching the same scene as Alberta, admired Lawrence's intelligence and sharpness.

"Lawrence is really impressive," Alberta said proudly.

Three minutes later, the mechanical being led the way, with Lawrence and the others following closely.

Not many people joined them. Other players begged Lawrence to take them along, but he ignored them.

"Parker! Lawrence! Hey, wait for us!"

"Don't bother," Lawrence told Kurt and Murray. "The doors won't close again. They can find their own way."

Hearing this, Kurt realized that not only the cargo passage but also the area gates were open.

"Where are we going now?" Kurt asked.

Alberta controlled the mechanical being to point upwards. Lawrence frowned and replied, "We're leaving the experimental area and heading back to the surface."

Kurt sighed in relief, fearing Alberta might lead them to activate some defense mode. With the ports open, the defense mode seemed unnecessary.

"Which port are we heading to?" Kurt asked excitedly. "We should find our hidden car first. It'll be faster to drive!"

The mechanical being gestured with its hands, and Lawrence, surprised, explained, "The rescue ship has arrived."

Alberta, smiling at the screen, blew several kisses, even though Lawrence couldn't see her. "See, Lawrence and I are so in sync!"

Yasmin maintained a formal smile, but it seemed slightly different.

"The rescue ship is here? That's great!" Parker exclaimed, but a voice behind him almost drowned him out, "The rescue ship has landed? No way!"

Lawrence and Parker turned to see a thin man among the followers, hurriedly pulling his hat down to cover his face and turning to leave.

Without needing Lawrence's orders, Kurt had his team grab the man. Parker's expression changed as he wiped off the man's disguise. "It's you!"

The others didn't recognize him, nor did Lawrence. Parker mouthed silently to Lawrence, "An undercover agent from the organization."

Back in the second round of the game, when Parker realized he and Lawrence had been abandoned by the organization, he had desperately wanted to find the undercover agent and question him.

"Why can't the rescue ship land?" Parker demanded, gripping the undercover agent's collar. "Speak!"
