Chapter 211 If One Does Put Oneself First, By God's Will, One Will Be Destoryed

Chapter 211 If One Does Put Oneself First, By God's Will, One Will Be Destoryed

Alberta had been waiting for an hour, but the people who were supposed to return were nowhere to be seen.

She pressed her hand against her chest, trying to calm the anxiety caused by her racing heart.

"Is the locator on the diving pod still working?" she asked Kirstie.

"It's still showing near the recovery station," Kirstie replied, scratching her head through her headscarf. "Weird."

Alberta's face darkened as she considered the worst possibilities.

Maybe the diving pod malfunctioned, or perhaps they were attacked by some underwater creature.

"I'm not waiting any longer. I'm going to find them." Just as Alberta decided to suit up and search for them, the entrance to the underwater passage rippled, and Lawrence emerged, carrying a pale and unconscious Parker on his shoulder.

Alberta's eyes widened in shock when she saw a half-inch cut on Lawrence's face. "Lawrence!" She rushed over and helped pull both Lawrence and Parker out of the water.

Finnegan and Gideon also surfaced, and all four of them were injured. Their diving suits were torn, and their skin was wrinkled and pale from prolonged exposure to water, making them look particularly exhausted and disheveled.

Lucy and Kirstie immediately began checking Parker's injuries, while Alberta carefully removed Lawrence's cracked goggles, feeling a deep sense of regret. This mission should never have happened!

"Where are you hurt? Let me see!"

"Don't worry, it's just a scratch, nothing serious," Lawrence said weakly, forcing a smile. He grabbed her hand, pulling her into a tight embrace, his face buried in her hair. "That was close."

Feeling Lawrence's weight pressing against her, Alberta supported him steadily, wrapping her arms around his waist. But then she felt a large, sticky patch of blood on his back.

Her heart tightened, and she quickly made Lawrence sit down, peeling off his diving suit to reveal eight deep, bloody gashes.

Alberta bit her lip hard, forcing herself to stay calm as she treated Lawrence's wounds.

"Why are there only four of you? Where's Dorian?" Beatrice asked anxiously after waiting for two minutes. "Didn't Dorian come back with you?"

"Him? Ha!" Finnegan gritted his teeth. "He's dead!"

"Dead?" Beatrice's voice was shrill, like a whistle. She was about to explode when Parker, looking pale and weak, opened his eyes and coldly interrupted her. "We were attacked by a monster. Dorian stole our oxygen tanks and weapons and pushed me towards the creature. He got what he deserved and was killed by the monster."

Parker looked at Lawrence, suppressing his pain. If it weren't for Lawrence, he would have been dead in the ocean!

"Did you hear that? Dorian got what he deserved," Kirstie said, pushing Beatrice aside. "Move! Don't get in the way of the treatment."

Beatrice stumbled back, feeling the hostile stares from the others. Knowing it wasn't in her best interest to cause a scene, she hid her resentment and stepped aside with a sullen expression.

Alberta, hearing that Dorian had attacked Lawrence, felt her anger rise. If Dorian hadn't been lost to the sea, she would have made him pay.

"It's my fault. I thought the enhancement drugs would keep Dorian in check. I shouldn't have chosen him. I didn't help you; I only caused you harm," Alberta said, feeling distressed.

"Choosing Dorian was a decision we all made together," Lawrence said, feeling Alberta's trembling hands as she applied the medicine. He grabbed her wrist, bringing her hand to his lips for a gentle kiss. "He didn't hurt me, and the monster didn't get away unscathed either."

Alberta pushed aside her self-blame, not wanting Lawrence to waste his energy comforting her.

After Lawrence and Parker were settled and resting, Alberta personally visited Finnegan and Gideon, bringing the promised rewards and additional medical supplies. Despite her usual indifference, Alberta knew how to win people over when she wanted to.

Finnegan and Gideon gladly accepted the rewards and recounted the underwater events in detail, expressing their admiration for Lawrence and Parker, especially Lawrence, who had managed to tear off several of the monster's tentacles with his bare hands.

As Alberta was leaving, Beatrice blocked her path.

"Do you need something?" Alberta asked coldly.

Beatrice hesitated, but having lost two of her most useful allies, she knew she had to secure her future. "No matter what, Dorian helped complete the mission. You won't go back on your promise of a reward, will you?"

Before Alberta could respond, someone in the crowd spat, "What a shameless woman!"

Alberta quietly observed Beatrice, listening to the murmurs around her:

"She's obsessed with those enhancement drugs."

"I heard they can bring people back to life. Wouldn't you be tempted?"

"Is that true? Are they really that effective?"

"Even if they're not, they can make you incredibly strong. Why do you think Alberta is so powerful? Everyone in her team has used those drugs!"

Beatrice waited anxiously, her heart in turmoil. "Why aren't you saying anything?"

Alberta took three vials from her pocket and placed them in Beatrice's hand. "There's nothing more to say."

Beatrice was surprised to receive the drugs so easily, but she couldn't help but wonder if Alberta had tampered with them.

Kurt and his team watched the scene unfold. A round-faced team member frowned and asked, "Captain, Dorian betrayed them and almost got Lawrence and Parker killed. Why would Alberta still give that woman the drugs?"

The team member didn't say it out loud, but he didn't think Alberta was the type to keep her promises out of a sense of justice.

"Do you think that woman can hold onto those drugs?" Kurt replied.

The team member paused, suddenly understanding Alberta's intention. Beatrice was now a target for many.

"Alberta is scary. But..." The team member scratched his head. "This doesn't seem like her usual style."

"If Alberta wanted to deal with Beatrice herself, it would be easy. But simply killing her wouldn't be much of a revenge," Kurt said, contemplating Alberta's mindset. "She probably doesn't want to waste time on someone insignificant."

Alberta and Roderick were by Lawrence's side. When Kurt approached, he saw Alberta gently holding Lawrence's hand, carefully cleaning the dirt from under his nails.

"How's Lawrence?" Kurt asked in a low voice.

"He needs a few days of rest," Alberta replied. "Has the young whale left?"

Kurt nodded. "It's out of the cage." He hesitated for a moment. "The mission hasn't shown as complete."

There were more threats outside the cage than inside. The young whale might have gained its freedom, but it was unlikely to survive for long. Kurt was always overthinking and worried they might have misunderstood the mission, potentially leading to failure.

But deep underwater, the young whale swam determinedly in a specific direction, continuously sending out calls to its companions.

Outside Paradise Island, the rescue ship retreated several hundred meters due to a large pod of orcas that had been lingering since the previous day. The orcas had made the waters turbulent and prevented the ship from approaching.
