Chapter 163: The God Realm
Chapter 163: The God Realm
~Third POV~
GOD REALM
Selene appeared in the great hall like she didn't have a care in the world. She hated appearing for meetings like this.
They were always too uptight for her and these people seemed to always have a prejudice against her because she wasn't as big as them.
Not that she cared about such things anymore but she really wants to avoid them but because of their child, she might not be able to.
The other gods were already gathered. Siofra sat on her throne with fury burning in her silver eyes.
Theron was lounging in a chair like he was bored with the whole meeting thing.
Various other gods whispered to each other, watching to see what would happen because they all knew the temper of the sun and moon deities.
"You called for me?" Selene asked. She sounded surprised but she wasn't.
She knew it was because of the powers she had given to the daughter of Arianna when she had promised Siofra to end it with Arianna.
Siofra stood up from her throne slowly trying to use the process to rein her temper under control.
"Have you seen what you have caused in the lower realm?" She demands. Even though she tried to soften her tone, it still came out sharp because she was truly angry.
Selene shrugged. "Maybe she has done her best," Selene said nonchalantly. There was no empathy in her voice at all. "I think it best I take her so she can come home and rest with me."
Siofra's face turned red with anger.
"Can you hear yourself!" she screamed. "She is the bond mate of the beast king! You made it that way as compensation for what her mate did to her! I didn't challenge that but you dare give her god-like abilities that her body can't inhabit? Do you even care about your creations?"
The other gods in the hall went very quiet. They knew better than to interrupt Siofra when she was angry.
Siofra started pacing, her orange hair seeming to glow brighter with her rage.
It made her angry that in this realm, most of the gods could do whatever they wanted but she couldn't.
She couldn't even eat her own husband free because Hades had quoted a rule they had all laid down together.
A god with flaming gold hair and gold eyes stood up from his seat, he was one of the nine gods, he had a foul temper just like Siofra.
"Don't talk about the beast king like that!" he said angrily. "He is my creature. I helped create him. Selene creature should be happy, she got to have the finest specimen ever created."
Everyone groaned, they all knew how proud he was of his creature but they also saw him as a fool to antagonize an already angry Siofra.
And just as they thought, Siofra turned on him. “Then help me understand why Selene thought it was okay to give power to a mortal without training her to use it," Siofra asked coldly.
The god with gold hair sat back down, looking frustrated and defeated because he didn't have any answer to that.
Siofra turned to face all the gods in the hall.
"Cael has always been a kind soul," Siofra said. Her voice was tired now. "He got deceived by his own brother Hades. Hades asked him to bring a divine artifact from the god realm without asking the rest of us. Cael did it because he trusted his brother. He took the crystal orb that held the core of the god realm together and gave it to Hades."
She paused, making everyone listen to her words, she wanted them to know and learn something that if she can punish her husband then none among them is safe once they broke the rules.
"In the end, Hades bonded with that orb. He controlled the god realm as well as his abyss realm that we sealed him in. I had to imprison my own husband because of what happened and yet…”
She looked directly at Selene.
"And you," Siofra said, pointing at her. "You could have solved all of this. Your blood could have saved us all the trouble. You could have simply mated with Hades like he wanted. But you refused. You chased after Theron instead. Theron who has no interest in you whatsoever."
"That's not fair," Selene hissed out. "Who I want is my choice to make."
"It was," Siofra agreed. "And your choice had consequences that we all suffered."
Siofra stepped closer to Selene.
"When you went down to the lower realm without your powers, trying to experience life as a human, a werewolf family rescued you," Siofra said. "Do you remember that family?"
Selene nodded slowly.
"You blessed that family," Siofra continued. "That blessing grew over time. It became powerful. Hades got a hint of it. He thought that if he mated with you or anyone touched by your blessing, it would cleanse him of the darkness inside him."
She paused.
"He kept begging you. He even made the god realm uninhabitable trying to force your hand. But you refused. So after learning you had blessed a family from the lower realm, he turned his attention there. If he couldn't have you, then anyone touched by you and bearing your powers would do. And as such the horrendous obsession and numerous deaths began."
"That's not what happened," Selene said.
"It's exactly what happened," Theron said from where he was sitting. He didn't sound bored anymore. He sounded tired. "And it would have continued if I hadn't intervened. But that was the fault of Kaeldran too, who again decided to play god and blessed the fox clan royal family with the ability to summon any god to do their bidding."
He leaned back in his chair, shaking his head.
"The god realm bores me anyway," Theron said. "Too much drama. The lower realm is more fun. No rules. Just Siofra monitoring me and as long as I don't cross a line I am good."
Hearing that made Siofra growled. She was so tired. She just wanted to keep the balance of the world they had created and yet the others preferred to play around.
"Is there a way to heal that child?" she asked exhaustedly, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"No," Selene said. "I want her to come home to me just like her mother. She is too good for that brute of a beast king anyway."
"Hey, don't talk about my creature like that!" the god with flaming gold hair said again. "Answer Siofra and stop being so haughty."
"If there is a way, please say it, Selene," Theron said. He was getting bored. The god realm bored him.
But the lower realm was more fun with no rules to bind him. Selene looked at Theron, wondering why he was so interested in the girl.
"There is a way," she finally said. "But I will say it if you give me something in return,” she said the last words looking at Theron.
Theron sat up straighter now, trying to hide his excitement.
"What do you want?" he asked suspiciously.
"That's up to me," Selene said. "But I want you to swear before all these gods so you won't break your words to me later."
Theron sighed. As long as Lyra woke up, Ragel would be happier and he could go play with that little guy with the blood magic.
"I swear to honor my end of the bargain if what you suggest does indeed return Lyra to good health," he said.
"Good then," Selene said. She raised her hand and a silver light filled the hall. Having sealed his promise, she turned to Siofra.
"What is causing her slow death is because of her wolf. Lauren is fighting against the blessing inside her. I could take Lauren away, or I could take the blessing that is upon her, and she would be safe either way."
"Can't she keep both?" Cael asked, entering the hall looking weak and pale.
Everyone turned to look at him. His form was barely solid. He looked like he was fading even as they watched but he would live.
"Cael," Siofra said, her voice softening. "You should be resting."
"I need to know," Cael said. He moved slowly into the room, each step taking great effort from him. "Can't she keep both?"
"No, she can't," Selene said. "One has to die for the other to stay. That is how divine magic works. Everyone knows that. You cannot have two conflicting powers living in the same body. Eventually they will destroy each other and the body they live in."
Cael moved to sit down. One of the other gods helped him into a chair gently.
"She'll choose the wolf," Cael said quietly. His voice was so weak they could barely hear him. "She'll choose her."
"How can you be sure?" Selene asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Because I know Lyra," Cael said. "She loves that wolf. She's been through hell with that wolf. Lauren is part of her soul. She won't give that up. Not for power. Not for anything."
Siofra nodded slowly.
"Then we have our answer," she said. "When Lyra wakes up, she will be given a choice to keep her wolf and give up the blessing."
She looked at Selene with cold eyes.
"In two days, the lunar full moon will rise," Siofra said. "At that time, Lyra will make her choice. And then you will take back what you have given."
Selene nodded and began to fade.
"Wait," Cael said weakly. "When she chooses to give up the blessing... will it hurt her?"
Selene paused.
"Yes," she said honestly. "It will hurt. The blessing will burn as it leaves her body. But she will survive. And she will keep her wolf. She will be whole again."
Cael closed his eyes, accepting this because he felt guilty for pushing Lyra to destroy the crystal orb that had been caging him with his brother Hades.
Selene disappeared and the great hall went quiet except for the sound of Cael's weak breathing. Siofra looked at him with pity and sadness.
"Rest now," she said to him. "You have earned your peace, Cael. I will take care of the rest.”
He nods and he fades away.
