Chapter 194 Awaiting blessings
I smile at the two babies in the crib. Two boys. They're perfect.
"I can't wait for mine." I smile at Amelia and Summer who went into labor on the exact same day, the two cousins now sharing a birthday. "They're absolutely perfect."
"Alonso is already bothering me for another one." Amelia smiles down at the sleeping babies. "Can you imagine getting pregnant so soon?"
We both look at Summer who just bursts out laughing. "Don't look at me like that, I got my tubes tied. I think I have more than enough kids right now."
"You sure you don't want baby number seven?" I joke.
"I don't know how the hell you do it." Amelia shakes her head. "I'm so tired from just one."
"Hire very good nannies." Summer winks with a chuckle.
I'm eight months pregnant, and I feel like a whale, but Miguel says I'm the most beautiful woman in the whole wide world, so who am I to argue with that?
"I knew you had in it you to finally have a boy, Alessi." T.J. thumps my cousin on the back. "You were going to need the back up with all the boys coming over to your house. Imagine that."
"I will kill any and every boy who dares to look at my daughters." Alessi says with conviction. "They are angels, they don't need any boys."
We all laugh when one of the angels start pulling another's hair, and Alessi has to intervene.
"Do you still not know the sex of the baby?" Lola asks, looking perfect and not pregnant.
"We're keeping it as a surprise." Miguel's arm comes protectively around my stomach.
Life has been so crazy lately, I can't even believe how things have changed.
The DNA results came back about Ben's paternity. He wasn't Miguel's brother, but his uncle instead. I still find that so crazy, and even felt a tiny bit sorry for Ben. He admired the ground Benedict walked on, and he always just wanted to please his father.
Benedict didn't take the news well at all, becoming a recluse in a penthouse apartment in the city. He didn't want to go into that house again after the whole truth of the people who lived in it were exposed.
My heart broke for Miguel when he sat me down and told me the whole story of Caroline. I knew there had to be a reason I never liked that woman. It's crazy to think that she was a victim too, and then she made other people victims as well.
Benedict wants the suicide letter, he really wants to know what Ben wrote to Caroline. I don't know if it's going to change anything. I'm just glad that Miguel made it out alive after Samuel tried to have him killed, and that he is still going to therapy to try and cope about what happened to him when he was a teenager.
Caroline disappeared, seemingly from the face of the earth, and Lucille couldn't find any money trail. That means she is operating in cash only, wherever she is.
Miguel says he won't rest until he finds her. He says she deserves to die because she might ruin other people's lives. Also, it is highly likely that she killed Robert, Lucille found video footage of her going into his apartment and leaving, but apparently he died of a blood clot that traveled to his brain.
Miguel believes that she had something to do with that, even though he can't prove it wihout a doubt.
I wonder where she's hiding.
This was all a house of cards that came tumbling down.
It started when Benedict met Valentina and fell madly in love, and they had a baby. His family couldn't accept her, because she was an immigrant and not to their social standing. They forced him to get married to a socialite who was Caroline, but he couldn't find it in himself to love her like she wanted him to. He didn't want to even touch her. So his father raped her, all so that there could be a Cargill born that was worthy of their bloodline. Maybe Caroline was so scarred by that, that she sought revenge and took it out on Miguel and Ben.
How a mother could do that to her own child is beyond me.
I lay my hand on top of Miguesl's on my stomach. I know for a fact that I won't let anything happen to my baby. And if someone did to him what Caroline did to Miguel and Ben, I would kill them msyelf too.
"Time for pictures!" My mother claps her hands together and we all pose smilingly at the photographer. He takes a few snaps of me and Miguel alone, the picture that is going out to the press.
We are telling the world that we are in love, that we are engaged and we're having a baby. I don't really care all that much what other people think apart from those closest to us, but it feels freeing to do this.
Neither Miguel or myself want to hide what we are to each other anymore. We're going to get married soon, after the baby is born. My mother is in stitches, trying to prepare for the arrival of her first grandchild, planning a wedding and getting me the perfect dress. She wants to know why am I doing everything at once, but when your heart is overflowing like mine, time should not be wasted.
Of course the public has divided opinions when the news broke that Miguel is the father of my child. Some people think its gross, and others say they are happy that we found a happily ever after, especially in light of what Ben did.
Thiago Kevin Benedict Cargill is born exactly two weeks after the baby shower, weighing in at a healthy seven pounds and eight ounces, screaming the roof off when he gets introduced to the world.
In my life, I have never seen anything more perfect than my son. Especially when his father is bare chested and have him sleeping on his chest, which is almost every second of every day.
I thank my lucky stars that I took the leap and slept with that stranger that I used to call Black.
