Chapter 108 Speculations - Miguel POV
"Mr. Cargill? I have those stats you were asking for?" The junior assistant, Mia, blushes when she walks into my office.
I think she's about twenty-six, not much younger than me, but the woman has been blushing profusely every time she interacts with me.
"Thanks. Can you explain it to me?"
She carries her laptop over to my desk and puts it next to mine. "So, what I noticed is, is that money is being paid to suppliers, right? Like toiletpaper, cleaning companies, that sort of thing."
She leans over to me to show me the transactions to the companies, and I frown.
"That's a lot of money for toiletpaper."
"That's what I thought!" She scrolls down before showing me another amount. "And then I found out that this company is receiving this amount of money every two weeks."
My frown deepens. "Who is authorising these payments?"
"Uhm..."
"Who, Mia?"
"George Cargill."
That motherfucker. George is in his fifties, and he's been working for the firm ever since he graduated from university, so of course he is the fucking head of finance. All of the money goes through him.
I had a hunch something isn't adding up with the financials, all because I noticed members of my family that works here, really don't want me to. I figured the assholes were hiding something.
Something breaks in the small kitchen outside my office, and I hear swearing.
"Ben has been in a bad mood ever since this morning." Mia whispers conspiritorially as if he would be able to hear her from here.
"Oh, why?" I don't really care for any kind of gossip, but ever since I started working here, I've come to realise that keeping my ear on the ground is not a bad thing.
"His girlfriend was seen with another guy yesterday. It was on some online tabloid today." Mia smiles, and I can tell she enjoys the gossip very much.
I pocket that piece of information. It would do me good to keep her close.
"I wasn't aware he had a girlfriend." And I'm keeping tabs on the guy, there has been no information that he's been seen with only one female.
"His ex-girlfriend, Madison Smith." Mia continues, not noticing how I'm stiffening in my seat. "They got engaged, but we don't think it lasted long. There was no breakup post or anything, but soon after the engagement they weren't seen together anymore, so thank you for clarifying they are indeed broken up!"
"And she was photographed with someone else?"
"Yes!" Mia closes the page on her laptop, and searches for Madison Smith with new boyfriend on the internet.
My eyes narrow at the picture, my blood running cold. What has my little mouse been up to since I last saw her?
I don't know the guy, and they're sitting in a restaurant and my little mouse has a smile on her face.
Well, well, well.
What are we going to do about that?
"Anyway, is there anything else you want me to look at?" Mia straightens again.
"Just do your work as usual, but if you find anything strange, you come see me again." I already have my phone out to text my little traitor.
"Got it." She takes her laptop from my desk, but doesn't walk away.
"Was there anything else, Mia?"
"A bunch of us are going out for drinks tonight." She smiles with sparkly eyes. "I was wondering if you'd like to join us."
"Sorry, can't." I smile back. "I already made plans with my girlfriend. Raincheck?"
Her lips form an "oh", probably to go spread that fact like wildfire.
"I'll let you know." She leaves, and I shake my head. At least she's smart, and I'm going to have to keep her close if I'm going to use her.
I didn't think I would like sitting in an office the whole day, but I've been receiving contracts from smaller companies that I have to revise, and it's actually very time consuming.
The only reason I studied law was to take over this company one day. Ben thinks I want to take what is his. He's mistaken, though, I'm just taking back what is mine, and if I have to work on small contracts to gain experience, then that is what I will do.
I didn't like seeing that picture of Madison with another guy, especially since I'm not allowed to claim her as mine yet. I wonder what my friend Mia will say if she finds out that Madison belongs to me.
Me: What have you been up to?
I continue with my work, setting up signing meetings with clients while I wait for my mouse to reply.
Mouse: Not much, bored at home. I have a photoshoot for my mom's new perfume on Friday.
Me: What's the location?
I should get a tracker for her phone, not an app, something she wouldn't realise is even there.
Mouse: Why, you feel like catching me?
Indeed, I do. My little mouse needs some punishment, a reminder of who she belongs to.
Me: Why, you want to be chased?
She's a naughty girl. I knew she liked it when I catch her unguarded.
Mouse: Maybe.
Mmm.
Seems like I have to start thinking of something.
