CHAPTER 37
CHAPTER 37
Sara heaved a sigh of relief as the woman stomped off, screaming threats at them. ‘Good riddance.’ She was glad that she didn’t have to pretend to be anything anymore. She really couldn’t wait to get home and sleep in her own bed. First, she’d take off these dresses and wash off all the makeup so it didn’t stain her bedsheet.
She looked up at Adrain, who was having a conversation with Elijah, and resisted the urge to run towards him and kiss him square on the lips. It was thanks to him that they were finally able to get rid of Josephine. If he hadn’t spoken up when he did, Sara would have been forced to kiss Elijah just so their plan could stay intact.
“Sara, I don’t even know how to thank you for doing this.” He had sweat beads on his face and the biggest smile she had even seen on anyone. Perhaps he was truly happy to be rid of that woman, and who wouldn’t be? She was the worst!
“You don’t have to thank me, Elijah; I just did my job; I’m your girlfriend, remember?” The two of them laughed at that, and he hugged her, surprising Sara, who stiffened at the suddenness of the hug. She relaxed after a while and hugged him back, pulling away when she couldn’t stand it any longer.
“Thanks for trusting me with such an important job.” It was on the tip of her tongue to ask who Josephine really was, but Sara pushed her inquisitiveness to the back of her mind. It wasn’t her business. “We should get going now.” Adrain spoke as he came to stand by her side, and she nodded, staring at him. She couldn’t wait to be out of here herself.
“What? So soon?” Elijah frowned at the two. “Surely you can at least stay for a while. The party has just begun. "WWe really can't." Adrain started to protest, but Elijah cut him off, shaking his head. “I insist.” He was already leading Adrain towards the bar. Sara walked behind them, flinching when anyone got too close. She hoped Adrain would protest more so they could leave; she wasn’t comfortable here.
“Party with me for a bit, and then you can leave.” Adrain shook his head. “We really should get going; it’s getting late.”
“Alright,” Elijah said, not ready to let them go just yet. “Have a few drinks with me, and then you can leave.” As he said this, he handed both of them drinks.
Sara sighed and took a sip from the glass, knowing that Adrain had succumbed to his friend’s wishes. She winced at the bitter taste and shrugged, gulping down the rest. “Easy.” Elijah chuckled, taking the glass from her. “Come on.” He led them to the heart of the party, and Sara unconsciously clung to him when people began to come close.
There was a very upbeat song playing, and everyone except the three of them was moving to the song.
"Hello, handsome,” a scantily dressed woman said, running her fingernails up the length of Adrain’s arm. Sara narrowed her eyes at the duo and scoffed when Adrain smiled down at the woman.
Of course, he liked these kinds of women—women with little clothes on. She shook her head and watched in disbelief as he followed the woman to the dancefloor, where they were joined by two other women dressed in the same way.
Sara averted her eyes, fuming on the inside. Did he just leave her alone with Elijah, a man she had just met a few minutes ago?
Elijah could see that Sara was upset as she watched Adrain dance with those women, and he smiled, leading her towards the bar again. “Come and drink with me.” “Have this cocktail, dear.” He handed her a glass, and Sara nodded, downing the drink in one gulp, making him laugh. “You’re good.” He handed her another one.
Sara took her time sipping the drink as her eyes found Adrain on the dance floor again. The number of women around him had increased. She sucked too much of the cocktail from the straw and choked, coughing and spitting every day. Elijah patted her back and whispered soothing words in her ears until she calmed down. “Feeling better?” She nodded, taking another sip to prove it, and he laughed.
“You’re a vixen, and it's his loss.”
Sara inhaled sharply at that comment and downed the rest of the drink, tossing the straw on the floor. She didn’t like that Elijah had picked up on her attraction to Adrain. “Here.” He handed her another glass that had blue liquid. Sara didn’t question the color and downed it all at once, giggling like a schoolgirl.
“All gone, another!” She slid a glass of shots her way before the bartender could grab them and downed it, giggling. “Woah, you need to relax. Isn’t this your first time?” he asked, eyeing her suspiciously. She looked too innocent to be downing so many drinks that fast.
“Nope.” Sara lied, popping the 'p', and Elijah watched her for some minutes before asking the bartender to keep the drinks coming. He took a sip from his own glass, not wanting to get drunk so fast. He never enjoyed the party if he got drunk too fast.Sara stumbled to her feet and giggled when she bumped into Elijah. She had drunk way too many cocktails, but she didn’t care. “It's time to go home now; our deal is off.”
“Is that so?” Elijah asked, taking another sip from his glass before he placed it on the counter.
He signaled to the bartender to stop the drinks and turned towards Sara.Sara hummed, staggering a bit. “You said to have a few drinks with me, and I have had a few too many.”
She chuckled at her own joke. She tripped when her legs hit the bar stool, and Elijah slipped his hands around her waist to steady her. Sara didn’t pull away. Instead, she kissed his forehead; the sound was so loud that it drew a few eyes in their direction.
Elijah blushed but didn’t release his hold on her waist.
Sara’s eyes found Adrain’s form again, and she noticed that he had managed to pull more women towards him. Now, there were streams of women surrounding him on the dance floor. They were so many, she almost couldn’t spot him in their midst. “I’m tired, and I want to go home.”
She hiccupped, leaning against Elijah, who tightened his hold on her. “Tell Adrain I want to go home now.” She commanded, pointing her hands in his direction.
“He’s busy right now, sweetie. I will have my men get him, but you should come with me so you can rest.” Elijah said as he pulled her along with him.
He led the way to the private lounges and opened a door, using his right hand to steady himself when Sara nearly knocked them both down. He placed her on the sofa, and she leaned against it, closing her eyes. Sara clung to the arm of the sofa, rubbing her face against it.
“Soft.” She whispered, and Elijah chuckled, pulling her towards him, but she resisted pulling away. “No, stay away.” Elijah ignored her and held her waist, running his hands up over her back. Sara stiffened and tried to pull away, but he had a tight grip on her waist. “Let me help you forget him; he’s not worth it.” Sara gulped, bringing her hands to his chest. "Elijah, let me go, please. I want to go home.”
“Let me love you, Sara.” He ran kisses down her neck, and Sara stiffened. Even in her drunken state, she couldn’t stand his touch. “What’s so special about him anyway? He doesn’t even care about you.” Sara pushed his chest with her hands, panic filling her. “Elijah, where is Adrain?” “He’s with his women on the dance floor, and I am here with you.”
He whispered in her ear, and she shivered. “Elijah, you’re drunk; let me go.” She looked around the darkened room. “Why is the room dark?” “It’s perfect this way, darling.” His hands were moving toward her breast.
Sara froze. Recovering fast, she pushed him away and sighed when he pulled away from her for a bit.
“Stop.” Elijah was too far gone, and all her pleas were falling on deaf ears. “Sara,” he whispered in her ear as he pulled her to him again, her front flushed smack against his chest. His mouth found her breasts, and he kissed them through her clothes, chuckling to himself.
Sara could feel her heart beating faster than ever. She tried to push him away again, but he seemed even stronger than before. Her heart was hammering in her chest as she sat there helplessly, powerless to push him away from her. “Please let me go.” “I j
ust want to love you, darling. Why don’t you let me love you?”
