Chapter 98 Chapter 98
LISA'S POV
Damien's eyes rose from his phone and landed on me. Without a word, he left the underground chambers and ventured upstairs.
I followed him at a pace behind him. When he got to his office, he shut the door with a bang and locked it from within.
The air slapped me across my face harshly. I had not expected him to be so cruel.
I waited outside the office for a long while, but he didn't come out or open it. I only heard the sound of something crashing and rushed to the door. I raised my hand to knock, but hesitated.
I did not want to get on his bad side now that he was raving mad. I returned to my bedroom, wondering what it was that he had received to make him so mad.
An hour passed before I decided to sneak downstairs again. I walked past his office door and saw that it was open. I crept towards it, scouting to see if he was still in the office or if anyone was around.
I sneaked into the office, and the first thing I saw was his coat hanger toppled over and things that had previously been placed on his desk on the floor.
What could have made Damien so pissed that he would destroy his office? I spotted his laptop and phone on the desk and rushed towards them.
A video was still open, although the screen was dark. I hit replay, and my face filled the screen.
I became pale. There was Alexander and I when he held me in his safe house.
I turned up the volume on the video to hear what the content said.
"So, you see, Damien is not to be trusted. I warned you, he is a dangerous man who doesn't care about you. But, if you promise to work with me, I can help you get out."
Chills ran down my spine, and a cold from nowhere seemed to blow into the room.
"Fine, I believe you. You're right, Damien isn't coming to save me. What do I have to do to be of help to you?" The person who was me in the video replied.
"No," I gasped. None of that had happened. I never said that to him. Yes, I had kept out the part where he did his best to turn me against Damien, but I had never agreed to help him!
"Are you sure you're ready to help? Damien can't suspect anything when I set you free. We have to come up with a backup story, and then, we will talkabout communication." Alexander said.
"No, this is fake, this is fake!" I tapped the computer hastily.
"Is it really a lie?" Damien's voice sounded from the doorway. I looked up, shaking with fear.
No, after everything I had done to build trust with him, this could not be happening.
Damien looked at me with abhorrence. " Damien, it is not what you think. That video did not happen. I never said any of those things, and Alexander did not set me free. There is no way..."
"Lies..." he interrupted.
"What?" I asked, staring at him with trembling hands.
"Lies!" He smashed the glass of alcohol in his hand. Blood dripped from his hand onto the carpet.
He did not even flinch from the pain. Tears fell from my eyes as I watched in complete horror.
"You have been lying to me all this time despite knowing how much I hate lies."
"No, Damien, I never lied to you. That conversation really did not happen. He is lying! It is probably AI, a deep fake. That is not me, and I did not say any of that!" I yelled, tears falling more and more in torrents.
I had seen how ruthless Damien handled anyone who betrayed him; this was putting me in so much danger over a complete lie.
"Damien, don't believe this, don't. It is a lie."
"Tell me, did Alexander try to turn you against me?" That was a tough question. As if he had known the exact question to ask.
"Well, yes, he had, but I still chose to stand by you because my chances here are far better off than there. I would never betray you, Damien."
"But you already did. You didn't tell me when I asked you what he said to you. You didn't trust me, and now, you expect me to trust you? That's just not how it works, Lisa."
Two of his men walked into the office, and my heart began to beat erratically.
"What is going on? Damien?" No, he was going to lock me in the underground chambers.
"Damien, please..."
"Take her to her room and lock her there. Did you seal the windows?" He asked his men, and they nodded.
My eyes widened. Seal the windows. "Don't worry, I set up breathing vents for you, so you should have air conditioning and oxygen perfectly, but until I know for sure that you are not lying, you will be confined to this house."
His men grabbed each side of my hands and led me out of his office. I looked at Damien with disbelief. I couldn't blame him; I just had to prove my innocence to him.
They confined me to my room with the benefit of food and water, but that was it. I couldn't believe he had done this.
The windows had been tightly sealed shut. There was no way I could get evidence even if I decided to sneak out. Where would I go? Who would I speak to?
Claudia was dead; she was the only person on the outside I could have trusted to prove my innocence. Suddenly, my phone beeped. I picked it up to find a message from Elena.
"Mr. Paulo is furious. What did you do?"
I dialed her number immediately because she was the only one who could help me clear my name.
"Hello, Miss Lisa, what is going on? Mr. Paulo seems really mad." She whispered into the phone.
