Chapter 69 CHAPTER 69

Chapter 69 CHAPTER 69

DAMIEN'S POV

"Lisa!" I woke with a start, my heart palpitating rapidly. Sweat perspired across my forehead, and a pain in my chest stopped me from moving.

I was lying in an unfamiliar bed, and everything smelled of chemicals and medicine; it made me sick.

Lisa was still in Alexander's hands, and she was in trouble. I had to get out. I sat up with difficulty, enduring the sharp pain striking out under my ribs. The last thing I remembered was being bulldozed by a boulder.

And a faint voice... the door to the room opened up, and Marcus walked inside. I sat up guardedly. Last time I checked, his alliances were not completely trustworthy.

"Damien, thank goodness you're awake. Alexander's shipment arrived last night."

"Where's Lisa?" I groaned out, wincing from the pain."

Marcus looked at me strangely, first he frowned at my wound and then picked up a tray of medicines and handed it to me.

"I asked you a question!" I said more loudly now.

"I don't know. You were badly hurt, we could only think of saving you, or else you would have died." He replied, turning around to fix the bandage that wrapped my midriff.

He had said We, who the fuck was we? "What do you mean by We?" I asked, and he didn't respond.

The door opened again, and the moment I sighted him, I reached behind me and pulled out Marcus' gun expertly, prepared to shoot.

"Take one more step and you are dead." I said, cocking the gun.

"Is that anyway to approach the man who saved your life?" Victor's wretched voice asked. His tone clipped and disconnected from any sort of emotion was the very reason I needed to put a bullet in his head.

The lying, scheming, betraying bastard. How dare he show his face here?

"Yeah, and I'm supposed to believe that you would risk your life to rescue me. For what?" I asked.

"He actually did risk his life to rescue you." Marcus said curtly from behind me. I glanced sideways at him and he nodded. "If it weren't for his call, you would have been blown to pieces."

"I pulled you out with my own hands. Like I said before you tried to backstab me and our one chance at working together went awry, I want to take Alexander down just as much as you do."

"I didn't try. I backstabbed you and so did Lisa. And now, Alexander has her. How am I supposed to believe thag this is of any benefit to you? Apart from the fact that my familh destroyed yours. You want me dead as much as you want him, why should I trust you?"

"Let's just say this alliance is a means to an end, and once it ends, we can go back to fighting our war." He replied casually.

Rage burned within me and all I could think of was ripping Alexander's head from his shoulders if he dared to lay his hand on Lisa.

"You put her in this mess, Damien. The only thing you can do is get her out of it, and I am the only one right now who can help you do that. And you're the only one who can put a bullet through Alexander's head."

I glared at him one more time before lowering the gun a fraction, keeping my finger on the trigger, ready to pull at the earliest hint of betrayal.

A man could only be dealt with once, a second and he would definitely be a fool. The pain in my rib and chest increased as I felt my muscles tighten.

"How? How do you intend to locate her?" I asked, telling myself I had to teust the asshole just this once to get to Lisa.

"Alexander's shipment arrived early this morning. A Russian ship called 'Krasivaya lyubov'. His men would be at the dock tonight to pick it up and sure as day they would be taking it to meet Alexander."

"Of course," I scoffed. "He started dealing with the Russians. Typical." I shook my head. My father did not realise he was more predictable than he intended not to be.

"Yes, he always wanted to. More power, more territories, more money. Who wouldn't want that? At the same time we cannot underestimate him. Alexander might be predictable but sometimes it is mostly because he wants to be found." Victor stated, and for once, I envied his point.

He was right. "So, how do we know that we are not walking into an ambush?" I asked and Marcus nodded.

"Well, there is no telling he is not expecting you. Knowing Alexander, he knows you're alive and already has a plan to lure you in." He replied.

"It doesn't matter." I got up, straining from the pain. "I'll walk into his stupid traps and take out all his stupid men if it means that I can save Lisa."

"And I never thought you would do a stupid thing until you met Lisa. Damien Paulo, willing to offer himsaelf a lamb to the slaughter just to save a girl." Victor smirked. "She must really mean alot to you. It is just too bad my sister did not mean as much."

I clenched my jaw at his clear accusation. "Don't bring up old wounds if you're not ready to use a bullet." I grinded out each word with clenched fists.

A nerve flickered in his jaw from clenching his teeth and I could see the malice evident in his eyes. He was still my enemy, despite his radical effort to rescue me.

"You have an agenda, stick to it." He gritted out. We glared at each other for what seemed like more than five minutes, before Marcus cut in between us.

"We can always deal with this some other time. Right now, Alexander's men are on the move. I have someone at the dock keeping tabs for me. He just sent me a text that his boss got a call and they should be there on three hours, forty minutes."

"Three hours? How far away is he?" I frowned and Marcus shrugged. Victor stepped away and I heaved a sigh of fury.

"I need a weapon." I tossed Marcus back his gun. The measly thing was not going to make blowing Alexander's head off any delicious.
